Gongfu Sipdown (1420)!

I got this as a free sample in a teaware order I placed with Kong Mountain earlier in the year. They have a spot during checking where you can request what type of sample you’d like to receive and I wrote in that I wanted their “woodiest shou”, so you can imagine my surprise when I got an Yiwu Sheng instead! However, free is free and I am a big fan of Yiwu sheng so I wasn’t too bummed out or anything…

This is a really nice Sunday morning kind of session as this sheng is very, very soft and sweet with fragile fruity notes and slight caramelized/burnt sugar elements when pushed a bit harder with the steep time. Sort of a semi lemony leaning cotton candy vibe!? Though there’s a bit of a greener undertone as well – especially late session and those more pushed steeps. It’s actually a very, very spot on name though!

The leaves are large with golden silvery highlights.
The dry tea had an aroma of dead flowers and ocean wet dog.
The lid had a sharp wet tobacco flavor.
First steep had that ocean wet dog with bright floral moments.
Ater a couple steeps it mellowed out to be smooth and juicy.
Hardcore cha qi.
