’Here’s Hoping’ Teabox Round #4 – Tea #4
There is a big ole two ounce pouch of this in the teabox… had to try it! The spearmint takes over in this one leaving a great fresh flavor while hiding the green tea a little. The flavor of the green tea must be very light. It’s delicious though! Both steeps were excellent. Very refreshing.

Thanks Just Organic Tea for the sample!

I’m enjoying this. It reminds me of a unsweetened McDonald’s ice tea with a slight hint of berry flavoring. When you open the tea bag, the berry smell hits you in the face. But I don’t think that really translates itself into the flavor. That or the base is just really strong. All in all I like it, but I’m not sure I would pick it up again. If the berry flavoring was a bit stronger I could see this as a great everyday iced tea.

Very minty, but light on the lemon. I made a nice large pitcher out of this bag, with great results. I have been using it as my liquid base for my green smoothies all week and let me tell you, a hint of mint in a pina colada green smoothie is the tits.
When I wanted more of a lemon punch in the face, I added a slice of lemon to my glass as I drank it, and it proved to have much better results.
This was not my favorite out of the bunch, I know it would be more appreciated in the dog days of summer, with the icy mint flavor to cool me off. Nevertheless, this was a fun tea to sip on all day.

drank Orange Hibiscus by Just Organic Tea
735 tasting notes

Nearing the end of my Just Organic Teas reviews with this one. I’ve got the mango-citrus one next, then I’m on to other things.

The scent of it instantly reminds me of Tazo’s “Passion” and this glass bottled juice tea they made called “Brambleberry”. (Which turned out to be marion berry juice and cinnamon.) The hibiscus is bright and in the forefront, complimented by cinnamon. Honestly, I can just barely smell the orange peel and lemon myrtle over the hibiscus, but we could all assume that was going to happen.

When finished, the tea comes out to such a dark purple it’s practically eggplant. It’s very fragrant, fruity and spiced. Once iced, it comes out to a lovely cranberry-like shade of red. Sipping it over ice seems like drinking fruit juice. There’s zero tea astringency or bitterness since it’s herbal, so it’s very smooth and even after sweetener, it’s tart. The cinnamon is a nice touch, too. It makes it stand out. However, the cinnamon and hibiscus are loud and don’t really give the other notes a chance.

I can’t really say this tea tastes very “orange”. But that’s fine, as I’m not really into that. But if you are looking for something citrusy, I wouldn’t recommend it for that. Still, I like it. It reminds me of sangria! That’s what it is! Maybe it wil have to make another appearance this summer for that reason alone.

So anyone who knows me know that I don’t drink green tea, pretty much ever. But I had committed to reviewing these, and wanted to try it.

The funny thing is that this is probably my favorite so far. It doesn’t have a very strong tea flavor compared to a black tea, but the mango and slightly floral flavors are really nice.

BezoomnyChaiVeck

A slightly floral green, and you say it’s really nice?

Are you alright Marzi? ^^

Thank you for providing a sample, Just Organic Tea!

I was looking forward to this one the most out of the bunch, and it is one of the two that I really liked. Spearmint is my favorite herbal tisane. I was expecting peppermint so it was great to to the former on the packet. Spearmint and lemon (and lemon myrtle) go well together. Tastes mostly spearmint-y. There is a hint of the lemon/citrus notes. I drank this over the past couple days. The weather was so cooooold, but this was still refreshing to drink.

This is the epitome of plain black iced tea. It is great alone and unsweetened, but I also suspect it would make a fabulous sweetened southern style iced tea too. Probably great with lemon or whatever else anyone would add in. It’s flavorful but not bitter.

I made this hot, to compare to the strawberry which I cold brewed. I found them to be pretty comparable, which means next time I would make it hot. Cold brewing means using more leaf for the same amount of water, and in this case there is no good flavor reason to do so. The raspberry is more sweet raspberry flavor than tart, but it was still noticeable in the final product. I would get this again.

I love anything raspberry flavored, so you could imagine my excitement at seeing this particular pouch. Upon opening, the smell of the Ceylon and the raspberry mingled to create a nice malty, juicy raspberry and cocoa smell that got me jonesin’
But of course, dummy me let it steep for over 10 minutes in hot water what I was doing god knows what. I hardly tasted any raspberry at all, just drinkable jet fuel. There were trace amounts of astringency, but nothing I couldn’t ignore. I hope the raspberry comes through nicely when steeped properly, it could be real good!

drank Iced Strawberry by Just Organic Tea
735 tasting notes

I’m pretty excited about trying this one because for the longest time, I thought I was intolerant to all things strawberry flavor. But! It turns out it’s just Red Dye No. 40 that makes me sick! That leaves me free to drink all the strawberry teas I want now! Yay! This will be the first. (I still wish I could have Starburst, though…)

It smells wonderful before it hits the water. Like sweet strawberry preserves. It makes me want jam on toast. Like the other iced Ceylons I’ve tried from Just Organic Tea, it gets very dark and concentrated in the quart of water they recommend using. This prepares it to be hit with an almost full glass of ice, where it must stand up to being diluted.

The flavor puts a smile on my face. After a little sweetener, it’s a fruity and oddly wholesome-tasting treat. Like the others I’ve tried, the black tea aspect sort of falls into the background. (Though the caffeine boost it provides is nice.) I’m still definitely reminded of strawberry jam as I drink it on this bright spring day. It’s almost like a dessert tea — the black tea add a sort of base that makes me think of strawberry shortcake. Mmm. Definitely recommend this one, guys.

Another sample from Just Organic Tea! I’m genuinely surprised that I’m the first person to review this.

It’s late, but I want iced tea, so this is perfect. Something naturally caffeine free as it only contains herbal ingredients — spearmint, lemon peel, and lemon myrtle. All organic, of course. The spearmint in the aroma is very soothing but strong. It mutes the smell of the other ingredients, but that’s kind of normal with mint. It doesn’t play second-fiddle.

The water slowing changes to a cheerful light greenish-yellow, then darkens to the color of a light black tea. A sort of brownish amber. The aroma of the tea, which I know is concentrated for icing purposes, is very pungent. I smell spearmint above everything else, followed by a scent that reminds me of lawn clippings that have dried in the sun.

The resulting tea is my favorite so far in the batch of samples. The mint they use is obviously quality – devoid of that weird “dill” aftertaste I’ve encountered so often in mint teas. I’m not sure what causes that taste, but I only seem to notice it in cheap mint teas. I know this might not be something others experience, but to me, this also one of those “creamy” spearmints. The lemon myrtle and peel, like in the aroma, are muted almost completely. There’s a hint of them in the finish, but you really have to be looking for it. Still, the result is very refreshing and manages to be minty without being “toothpastey”. It leaves my mouth feeling cool. I like it very much. It would be glorious to put some fresh mint in with the ice.

Thank you for the sample, Just Organic Tea!

The aroma of this one smells soooo good. I rinsed my iced tea pitcher with hot water for a few seconds and dropped in the tea bag before heating up some more water. While I waited for the water to come to a boil, the raspberry filled the pitcher. Yum!

Taste-wise, almost like the strawberry iced tea, the raspberry flavoring could also be stronger – just some more flavoring to be even more enjoyable. Even though the temperature today didn’t reach above 45 this was still refreshing!

Thank you providing me a sample to review, Just Organic Tea.

Solid base tea. I can’t taste much of the strawberry flavor, even when I put few ice cubs into the glass. It’s definitely there but needs to be much stronger. The tea bag and liquor do smell of strawberry, though – nice aroma.

drank Iced Raspberry by Just Organic Tea

Yay, another freebie from Just Organic Tea! I told myself I’d save this one until I was closer to being finished with the other teas in the tasting…Well, so much for that! My love for raspberry tea overtook things.

The dry tea smells wonderful. A deep, well-rounded and natural raspberry scent. Like raspberry jam, but with the strength of the Ceylon shining through. If the unflavored iced Ceylon I tried before is any indication, I have a feeling this isn’t going to be one of those teas where the fruit is all you can taste.

It didn’t come out as dark as the plain Ceylon. The resulting tea is more mild than I expected. The raspberry flavor is actually a bit on the subtle side. It’s definitely there, but not as potent as I am used to in fruity teas. The Ceylon is strong but not too strong, with a tiny bit of bitterness in the finish. It’s still quite tasty and I look forward to the rest of the batch. It’ll be nice as a first-thing-in-the-morning tea tomorrow.

Today was a perfect day for iced tea! I really needed something thirst quenching, and this was the sample I grabbed from Just Organic. I cold brewed a quart of this overnight (okay, like 5 wish hours) and I swear to all that is hibiscus, this is a perfect imitation of TAZO’s Passion. I have had my fair share of that tea in it’s natural iced form, and it’s like drinking steeped juice.
The hibiscus is definitely the forefront of this brew. I typically enjoy iced teas with hibiscus in them, even if I am not one to actively seek it out. The citrusy notes of myrtle and orange peel are there ever so slightly, and the cinnamon is a brief reminder. It is pretty tart, so I took this with half lemonade to mellow it out. It helped a great deal, and brought out more of the citrus undertones. While I would never seek this blend on my own, I enjoyed the juicy tartness that for sure felt hydrating.

I love drinking iced hibiscus, straight. Like others, I usually stay away from blends because it often tends to overpower other ingredients if the portion is off. Might as well drink it by itself! The orange peel in this particular blend challenges the hibiscus, creating a strong, tart and citrus-y combination, each equally showing its character, curbed yet by the cinnamon. Adding cinnamon to sweeten teas has never occurred to me (unless it’s masala chai), certainly not to hibiscus. Hibiscus and cinnamon seem like a strange pairing but it works really well. The dry tea bag smelled nice, too. No sign of the lemon myrtle – too quiet to stand up with these loudmouths. Regardless, I drank the whole quart throughout the day and enjoyed this blend.

drank Iced Ceylon by Just Organic Tea

I really hate wimpy tea, so I am enjoying how strong this tea is. I didn’t dilute it at all and I am happy with that decision, but I think people who prefer a weaker tea would still like it with more water added as well.

Flavor wise I don’t have a lot to say, except to say that I steeped it for 4 minutes and don’t find it bitter at all. I purposefully didn’t go the full 5 because I was afraid of that. It’s a nice basic black unflavored tea. Nice strength, and I have nothing negative to say. I haven’t tried resteeping it but I bet it would make a second batch well.

drank Iced Ceylon by Just Organic Tea

My thanks go to Just Organic Tea for this sample! They’re about to release a line blended specifically to be served cold, which is perfect because iced tea season is in full swing here in Atlanta. Sorry, my northern friends. It’ll be there soon.

Now, the sample I’m trying is bagged. I understand that there will be a loose leaf version when this line launches. What I’m kind of impressed with is the size of the bag. For once, there’s actually enough room for the tea leaves to expand! It smells nice, too. The aroma reminds me that I should really try more Ceylons. They’re plain, yeah, but they’re comforting and reliable. And they remind me of all the sweet tea my grandmothers have made over the years.

As it steeps, it gets really dark. Like, alarmingly dark. It’s dark brownish red and I am suddenly not afraid of adding a lot of ice. And sugar — real sugar, for once. I’m going to do it up right. The instructions call for a quart of water per bag and now I understand why. No guesswork here. Just fill your glass with ice, pour, stir, and it’s done.

As far as flavor goes, I guess it’s exactly what I was expecting. Like an Irish Breakfast. Malty, faintly raisin-like, only lightly bitter, and familiar. The strength of it holds up well against the ice. I find myself wanting to put a lemon slice in it. That would just be perfection.

Another iced tea review thanks to the peeps at Just Organic Tea!

I like Ceylon as an iced black tea. It has all the right malty and bright raisin/citrus notes to make it a great refreshing drink with no fuss. I added two little drops of liquid Stevia and a slice of lemon in one of my glasses, and one with nothing else but the brewed tea. Both were great in their own right. The lemon brightened up the brew and added a bit more acidity to the glass and introduced the raisin and citrus zest to the forefront of the flavor. This would make for killer sun tea, classically prepared as my family has always made it: lots of fresh squeezed lemons and a good amount of cane sugar or honey while brewing. My favorite so far!

Thanks to *Just Organic Teas" for the sending me a sample!

The mango flavoring smells really good! It was like a mango smoothie. As the bag steeped, I could also smell the chamomile, which, as I found out last night, makes a good pairing with mango.

I’m more than wary of boiling green tea. It has this sour, bitter taste, and that’s exactly what I get when I taste the liquor. The more ice, the better. Diluting makes the mango and citrus stand out more. However, that taste stays in the background. Still, I find the entirety of the tea refreshing.

This one isn’t for me, but I very much like the idea of a mango-flavored iced tea.

I’m from the south ya’ll. And while I don’t use “ya’ll” anymore, I grew up honestly thinking “flowerdy” was a word. Such as, “I sure do like your new flowerdy curtains.” So I claim to know a bit about iced tea.

I was delighted to review some iced teas for Just Organic. Raspberry was my first choice, since I love all things raspberry. When I was growing up, we would brew tea bags in boiling water and then add more water to it (after a lot of sugar of course). The packaging on this bag didn’t say if I should brew it straight up or dilute after, so I decided to steep it and then chill it. I like my iced tea strong anyway. It sat in the fridge for a few hours and then I had it over ice.

The raspberry flavor is behind the base a bit. Since I know it’s there I can find it, but it doesn’t slap me around. It was nice enough, and I will enjoy drinking the rest of the quart, but there was no wow factor.

You know what I would love to have in a tea bag at home, and what I hoped this would taste like, is the tea they serve at Biaggi’s. It’s black currant or something but tastes like raspberry. Can anyone get on that?

drank Orange Hibiscus by Just Organic Tea

Thanks to Just Organic Tea for this sample. This herbal iced tea blend has a strong flavor of hibiscus first of all. It dominates over the orange peel and lemon myrtle. It is quite tasty but not for those with an aversion to hibiscus.

I was given one large tea bag of this as a free sample and I brewed it with one quart of boiling water for five minutes and poured it over ice and added sugar. Without sugar I don’t think I would like this blend. Tried this one over my other samples because it is caffeine free.

Thank you for the sample, Just Organic Tea!

It’s very malty, to the point in which it’s bitter. I have three cups left sitting in my iced tea infuser, so I would change the instructions to fit my personal taste by adding another half quart or a full quart of water later. For this cup, I put in a splash of milk to temper the strength, and it works. This Ceylon black is nicely decent, an everyday black tea that makes for a refreshing iced tea for when I’d want something more robust.
