Arby Advent Day 5
I love almond, and I love almond rooibos. There’s no way this shouldn’t be a winner. Unfortunately, I don’t like it as much as other brands’ versions of this tea. Hot, I found it a bit weak, and cold, it has a sort of strange flavor. The marzipan-like almond is there, but it’s overwhelmed. I think I might just not love the particular rooibos used in this blend. It’s just a little, I don’t know, sour? Okay now I’m looking at the ingredients. I bet that’s the orange causing that. Orange with rooibos can sometimes be great, but I don’t love it here mixed with the almond. Maybe if it were an orange cream instead of a sour orange. It’s not terrible, but I don’t need to seek it out.

Yes it is cloying.
Yes I enjoy it.
No, it does not live up to its jasmine name.

Syrupy, blueberry-blackberry aroma smells great. Somehow doesn’t overpower the green tea base in taste? Grassy and mineral with a green tea body and thankfully the cloyingly sweet aroma doesn’t come through as a sweet taste. The tea is adorned with various flower petals: jasmine, marigold and cornflower which give a pretty look; I do not taste the jasmine at all. That’s ok. One tsp is good for 2-8oz steeps.

The weather was balmy and sprinkling today and I’m suffering from a reproductive woman’s ailments. Had four cups already today and there’s enough left for two more cups. I like this easy-sipper today and will probably finish the bag. Thanks, ashmanra :)

Steeped it less this time and got more of the smoky and fruity flavor. Made it in a smaller mug with less water as well.

Not a bad loose leaf tea, but I don’t know what kind of black tea it is or where it’s from. Tastes more like black currant than it does tea, but if that’s what you prefer then you might like this. Not bitter at all, and can probably be steeped a little longer than I did. I steeped it for four and a half minutes, but since it’s partially a fruit tea it might be able to go a little longer before getting too strong.

Flavors: Black Currant

To be completely honest this is one of the favorite things I brought back from Disney World when I went last year. Joffrey’s supplies most of the coffee and tea at Disney World and they have a shop in Disney Springs with a huge variety of Tea. This was definitely my favorite. It’s got the dept of pu erh and the chocolatey taste it’s probably one of the best teas for when you kind of want hot chocolate but also kind of want tea.

Now it is mostly my fault for steeping this too long, but I found the tea base a bit astringent and slightly bitter. I did, however, REALLY like the rose and French vanilla flavours together. The undertones are so complex and there are lots of very subtle flavours. I highly recommend trying this blend if you are a fan of floral teas. I suggest you steep about 1-2 tsp of tea for about 3-4 minutes and not forget about the teabag like me.

Flavors: Floral, Rose, Tannin, Vanilla

Sad sipdown on an amazing tea. This is by far the best almond tea I’ve had, and it pairs so well with the rooibos.

First off I just wanted to say this tea was so good I went back the next day and bought a package for me and for a friend. It has a rooibos base, which makes it very sweet and easily re-steeps 3-4 times. There is a nutty walnut and marzipan/almond flavour, but I can also taste nectar or honey as well as oats, vanilla, and toasted coconut.

Flavors: Almond, Grain, Honey, Marzipan, Nectar, Oats, Rooibos, Sweet, Vanilla, Walnut

I had this yesterday morning and enjoyed it immensely. I like the blend of spices they used (cardamom, pepper, clove/allspice, ginger were all prominent.) Some chais are weak, but this blend is spicy. It is also really good if you brew it hot than let it cool and drink it iced or make it into a latte; this Masala Chai is a very versatile tea. The black tea was really smooth and strong but not bitter, even on the third cup.

I am a huge fan of Walt Disney World. I had never been before my now-husband took me right after we got engaged in 2012. I’ve been twice more since then (to Epcot, my favoritest). Joffrey’s is the provider of the tea and coffee in the Disney parks. They have kiosks all over, and a brick and mortar shop at Disney Springs.

Here’s a review where my favorite Disney Food Blog goes to review the shop: http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2015/07/06/news-and-review-joffreys-tea-traders-cafe-at-disney-springs/

Yep it’s awesome.

Now I love me a chai latte, they taste like cozy. The blend is very important though. I want spicy, but balanced. Starbucks has too much cinnamon. I love cinnamon but not that much in my chai. The cinnamon chai latte Starbucks did last year, I was not a fan of in any sense. But this Masala Chai is perfect. It’s just the right blend. All you have to do is smell it. All of the spices are in perfect alignment with one another.

Get the chai latte at the Joffrey’s kiosk. I got four the last time I was at Epcot. It’s so creamy and comforting. Definitely my favorite chai. I got the loose leaf last time I visited the shop so I can make my own and the only difference is I can’t froth the milk just like they do.

We actually had this at breakfast AND lunch today.

Remember tea party day? It has changed a wee bit because both of the younger daughters are in college now and one is also working, so we have to schedule it whenever we can. We still get together once a week, but it has been a “summer of soups” instead of dessert being the star of the show. (Make no mistake, dessert still happens but it is usually cookies now.)

At breakfast this pretty much serves as what the name says – breakfast tea. But at tea time it seemed to morph into a tea lightly flavored with….cinnamon? I don’t know why it had that vibe going on but it really caught me off guard. I had to take a couple of extra sips and then wrack my brain trying to remember if I had switched teapots or something, but no, it was just the way the flavor came across with what we were serving.

Soups thus far have been fresh garden tomato, butternut squash, potato leek, Hungarian apple, and rustic chicken and vegetables. We have done sandwiches a few times as well. Now it is almost time for everything pumpkin!

I was so sure I had reviewed this before…

I am a little afraid of breakfast blends. I don’t add milk or sugar to my tea, so I find builders’ teas to be somewhat brutal. Breakfast blends are often heavy on Assam or hearty Kenyan tea that has an edge and a good bit of astringency, and my wimpy tummy can’t take it. I am sure I would enjoy it with additions but I try to avoid them.

So this one was approached with caution. I steeped for only three minutes. I am pleasantly surprised. This is a very good accompaniment to my sweet and tart cranberry and white chocolate scone that youngest made (with fresh whipped cream – mm). This is most definitely a breakfast blend but it doesn’t bite. The packaging and website don’t tell you what is in this, and looking at the dry leaf it is quite dark, small leaves with a few larger flat tan leaves mixed in. Definitely mostly Assam and those may be a few golden tips or some not-so-green Darjeeling.

GMathis says this is “juicy” rather than drying and I agree. It is a nice, non-frightening breakfast blend for those who are a little apprehensive of that term.

I’m a sloppy timer, but I’m sure I let my cuppa go 4-5 minutes, and it was still very pleasant.

(ashmanra, let me know if I’ve got the company info wrong :)

The downside for those of us who love heavy builders’ teas in the morning is that sometimes your mouth feels like it’s lined with Kleenex after you drink them. First thing I said to myself upon sampling this one was, “Hey, this makes me not thirsty!” The juiciness makes me wonder if there’s a good bit of Darjeeling in the mix. Tea description on the Joffrey’s website doesn’t give much away.

Flavor-wise, it’s smooth, sweet and toasty and yeah, I’m getting the “hints of caramel” mentioned in the product info as well. Nice.

Sil

sounds like a good morning cup!

dragondrool

“…lined with Kleenex” is a FABULOUS analogy for the effect of builers’ tea. Sometimes that fuzziness lasts a good half a day or so, I find.

ashmanra

That is the correct info! My daughter picked up a number of Joffrey teas
when she was in Florida. This is a breakfast blend that my wimpy self can handle. Most builders’ teas make me cower. Glad you liked it!

ashmanra

Oh, and the pouch it came in doesn’t enlighten me, either.

Superanna

They’re the tea and coffee providers for Disney! I love their chai more than anything. They have a store in Disney Springs and kiosks in the Disney parks. Here’s where my favorite Disney blog went and reviewed their store: http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2015/07/06/news-and-review-joffreys-tea-traders-cafe-at-disney-springs/

Sipdown! This fulfills the April sipdown prompt – your oldest white tea.

Some white teas really do age well, but I didn’t know silver needle teas could be expected to hang on like this.

I have had just a tiny portion of this left for a long time and I hoarded. Today it is finally sunny after days and days of clouds and relentless rain. We had lunch outside and I made the last of this as an unsweet iced tea, flash chilled.

Had this today with Walnut Chocolate Chip when my best friend came over. We tasted the tea first because I knew that pie would overwhelm the nuance of the white tea. I used 185F water and steeped 3 minutes. It was really tasty with lots of flavor (for a white tea) with notes of hay but also a golden honey taste, very light, but creamy and had good body. Delicious and fresh tasting. The leaves were almost succulent, and I have had this tea a while.

This is another gift from my daughter, Superanna, who just returned from Disney. She brought me this and chocolate puerh, and said that the chai they serve has ruined her for any other chai.

We made a total of four small pots of this tea, resteeping the leaves once. I want to try multiple steeps and see how long it retains its flavor.

The leaves live up to the name. They are a soft green covered with downy white fuzz. I took one bit of leaf out and broke it in two to see the separate folded young leaves. I popped the leaves in my mouth to enjoy the flavor as I write my note. I love the taste.

The liquor was lightly golden and tasted of sun warmed hay. It is creamy and I also get a hint of tender green spring vegetables. This is really delicious and the resteep was, also. I think I could get more steeps from it but I didn’t want to risk it when serving it to lots of people especially with this being the first time I have made it. We made 144 ounces of puerh tonight and about 56 ounces of this one. I think we should be a pretty well hydrated crowd.

Every time my daughter travels she brings me tea. She just got back from Florida, and this company supplies the tea for Disney apparently. The package says they are located in Tampa, FL.

There is a lot of chocolate in this blend. Rather than just flavoring or oils, you can see a substantial amount of chocolate bits, though judgin by the aroma I am sure there are flavoring oils as well.

This is really good. It doesn’t have a strong puerh taste, no fishy taste, just really earthy black tea and lots and lots of chocolate. It resteeps pretty well for a flavored tea – pot number two was quite good. We ended up making 144 ounces tonight. That’s a lot of tea. And it wasn’t the only tea we drank! Youngest daughter fell in love with it. My son’s girlfriend loved it, and one cup of her tea cooled completely while we were playing Dominion and she said she liked it even better that way as the chocolate flavor was even stronger.
