One of my favorite teas. I think it was this tea. Good Earth has changed things up a few times over the years. I was first introduced to this tea in January of 1998, before I completely lost my sense of smell. I drove from North Dakota to Minneapolis during some horridly bad weather. I arrived 3 hours late, exhausted from white knuckled driving and my hostess made a pot of this tea. I remember the great burst of delicious cinnamon that scented the air. Drinking it was like drinking liquid red hots. I’ve loved it ever since. Even now, when my sense of smell is completely gone, I can remember how lovely it smelled and I still enjoy it.

This is definitely a comfort tea, to steep all day and drink when I’m out hiking or when I’m not feeling well.

Sadly, today I’m not out hiking. Instead, I have cold #2 for the month.

It’s been steeping about 8 hours, and I love it. Super sweet, cinnamon, a bit of mint, a tiny hint of other spices. Yum.

Yum! This is the tea that got me into drinking tea more than coffee. You’re right.. super sweet, heavy cinnamon, spices, .. Yum! Easy to through in my purse for that emergency tea need too. :)

OMGsrsly

I was introduced to it on a winter hike – one of the people pulled out a thermos and it smelled SO GOOD. :)

drank Vanilla Chai by Good Earth Teas

I got excited when I found this on sale for $1.80 a box. I recognized the name and immediately thought “The guys who make Sweet Chai Of Mine!! Awesome!”. But after checking out its profile here on Steepster, I realized this one might not be a winner like the other. Also, it says “Overflowing with pure pleasure” on the packet… that’s awkward.

However, upon opening one of the little pouches, I’m greeted by a very nice aroma. Cinnamon, sweet vanilla, clove, cardamom, ginger root. It actually smells a lot like Sweet Chai Of Mine. Or a cinnamon bun.

The flavor is a little heavy on anise, which I’m not really into. The same goes for the cinnamon, which gives it a Red Hots candy flavor. I’m not getting as much vanilla as I had hoped. The ginger and cardamom are very weak, but present. They add a sort of gingerbread man taste when combined with the vanilla. Anyway, this isn’t a bad chai. It’s just mild and not very interesting. I’ll be happy to finish it, but I know I wouldn’t buy it again.

I consumed many gallons of the original Good Earth tea back in Boulder, Colorado, where I went to college. Way back then, there was even a restaurant by the same name which served this tea and offered free refills. Naturally, I took advantage of the policy…

I found an old box of Good Earth filterbags in my cupboard while moving and was looking forward to a steep-off with Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice, because it smells EXACTLY like my memory of Good Earth. Alas, the steep-off will have to wait, as my bags have turned stale and I had to toss the brew…

This is going to be a hard tea to review. But first, I’d like to say that my Hapa-tite tea swap from Hapatite arrived today! Well, yesterday, but I only got it today. I am so excited!! All of the teas look very interesting, and I can’t wait to try them all.

I had arranged to go out for coffee with my partner before the swap package arrived, but wanted to stay in and drink tea instead, so as a compromise I picked this bag out and went for coffee with him, and asked for hot water at the shop.

Like Nicole stated in her review, I wish I’d read the recommendations on here before making this tea! A short steep would definitely have been enough, but as it is, I left the bag in the water for a good 4 or 5 minutes. I had a sugar sachet ready which I definitely did not need, as it was overpoweringly sweet, and actually probably the first tea I’ve had which had lived up to its ‘sweet’ promise. The cinnamon taste is also very powerful, and tiny sips reminded me of cinnamon fireball sweets I ate as a child. However, if you drink this is anything larger than little sips, the flavour becomes seriously strong. I could not believe just how strong it was. By the end of the cup (which wasn’t even that big) my lips were tingling and the inside of my mouth was on fire. This is a seriously intense brew.

I have a feeling it would have been nice had I steeped it only for a short time, and I actually put the teabag in a cup of iced water to see what that would do. The result was a pretty tasty, mild, crisp version of the hot cup I’d just drank. I didn’t think there would be much flavour to it but the same flavours were obviously present, which was good. In the second/cold steep, the sweetness was more apparent than the cinnamon, instead of the other way around, which was definitely better for me. I could also taste the orange a bit this time, which was completely lost in the cinnamon first steep. It’s worth noting that there wasn’t even a hint of black tea in either steep.

I really don’t know how to rate this tea, because if I’d just had the iced version, I would have rated it better than average. However I struggled to finish the first cup so much I actually started to think I was having an allergic reaction because my mouth was burning so bad. I usually go with the rating based on my best experience with the tea, but this time I feel like I have to take the first steep into account. I think it’s going to have to be half way between the two.

Thanks for the try, Nicole! Sipdown.

I wish I would have read the tasting notes for this tea. This tea is similar to Harney & Son’s Cinnamon tea because it is sweet and has a very strong cinnamon flavor. Personally, the tea was too overpowering for me, but I was glad I got to try it from a recent swap with Suziqzer

I receieved a sample of this from Suziqzer. Thank you!

This was pretty similar to H&S Hot Cinnamon Spice. It was a nice afternoon treat.

Wow.. you were on a mission of tea tasting today :)

A short steep is all that’s needed for this sweet tea. The longer you steep this tea, the stronger and sweeter it becomes.

This tea is a staple in our cupboard. We bought about 4 cases, and just love it. It’s also great as an iced tea in the warmer weather.

When you first smell this concoction in your mug, it’s a delightful spin of these three fruits with an emphasis on the peach. The taste is subtle, yet pleasant. An earthy green tea with a light splash of fruit.

I don’t like this tea as much as I used to. My sister pointed out that it smelled like cinnamon altoids and now that’s all I can taste. I’m not crazy about cinnamon altoids, so by association am no longer a fan of this tea.

My friend gave me a couple bags of this to try after visiting her house. I have to say that I love it! The taste definitely reminds me of a cold day and needing something good to put your hands around and warm up to.

It’s sweet, but not over bearing, and the cinnamon brings in a really nice spice to it. It really lives up to it’s name I guess! This is a great alternative to chai tea I would have, but not want to make a latte out of.

No additives needed! If anything I think they’d take away from what this has going naturally.

This is another favorite for when I have to make do with bagged green tea. It’s forgiving with the water temperature and doesn’t taste bitter like a lot of bagged green tea. It’s light, and the lemon grass adds a nice flavor to it. Perfect for when I have to travel and can only take bagged tea along. With a low enough water temperature I leave it in the mug steeping as long as I can for extra lemon grass flavor.

Superfruit White Tea- Mangosteen with Mango by Good Earth Tea is made from a yummy combination of ingredients; White Tea, Rosehips, Natural Mango Flavor, Blackberry Leaves, Mangosteen Peel, Hibiscus, Chamomile, Star Anise, Mangosteen Extract and Grapeseed Extract. The aroma of this teabag is deliciously sweet and as expected, very fruity. The mangosteen smells syrupy and the mango gives a tropical and musky undertone indicative of mangoes. Sadly I do not pick up any aroma of the tea itself, or any of the other ingredients, just the heavy aroma of tropical fruit. Ok, really though, I am not complaining since these are two of my favorite fruits (as stated earlier).

Once I place the teabag into the water the room is instantly transformed into a tropical fruit basket. It is incredibly sweet smelling, almost too much so. I worry that drinking this tea will be like drinking the fruit syrup that canned fruits are kept in, tasty if you are craving it, but not good as a tea. I think this has to be the sweetest smelling tea I have ever had the honor of sniffing.

Enough steeping and time for the sweet tropical goodness. Or not. This tea is not at all sweet! I feel slightly betrayed after all that syrupy build up. The taste is a blend of tart and herbaceous, a mixture of chamomile and what I can assume is Bai Mu Dan since it tastes similar to its flavor profile. There is also a very mild woodsy taste which blends well with the chamomile and white tea flavors. The aftertaste is that of mangosteen which is better than none at all. It might seem like I am being unfairly disappointed, but that aroma was so intensely sweet and for the taste to have no sweetness at all really does feel like a letdown. The flavors in a vacuum without the aroma to compare it to are not bad, nothing too spectacular though.

Mmmm oh man, if you steep green tea just right, it’s like drinking warm melted butter.

My first tasting notes on this tea weren’t that flattering, because I didn’t know how to steep green tea properly then. I’ve come such a long way! Yayyy!

I like this blend a lot better at 175 degrees F.

I’m also seriously craving green tea today for some reason. This is my fourth helping.

Smooth, lemony, earthy. Just what I want in a nice cup of bedtime green tea.

This tea is lovely! The lemongrass suits the flavor of green tea perfectly. It also tastes very floral, more so than I expected.

Plus, it’s decaf, so it makes a lovely bedtime tea. Simply beautiful!
