Brewed 5min. No additives. Hot.
It ends with a bit of astringency and bitter after taste. Is better with sugar but I was hoping I found a black tea that didn’t need it.

I really think plain earl grey tastes like dish water. I’m not going to say that this tastes great but the lavender really does round out the flavor so it is not so punchy.
It is a better earl grey…

I don’t know if I like Pu-erhs or not.
This one has a very smooth and round flavor with none of the unpleasantness of “regular” black teas.
But the complexities that puerhs have are ‘strange’ tasting. I’ve heard them described as “earthy” but I don’t agree. In the way that a compost heap does not smell like plain soil; puerhs do not taste earthy.
Puerh is the genre of tea you really just have to try to see for your self because it has such a distinctive flavor.
But, this Pu-erh is excellent in its roundness.

Good mild Darjeeling.
Brewing more than once brought out a little astringency for me.

This teas flavors are true to the advertisement and even has the subtle starchy after taste of pear. It is very nice even though the honey plays a subtle back ground role to the tea and pear.
My only complaint is that this tea is extremely easy to over sweeten.

First… this is the only black tea I can drink without milk and be completely happy while doing it. In addition this is the only tea that says it has a subtle honey like flavor and I can really taste it along with the promise of it being smooth actually being true. So this review is starting out pretty well…

But really… the second steep is the best with all of the tannin taste being absorbed by the first steeping. So for the first steeping I usually add just a teaspoon of sugar in the pot but in the subsequent steeps I don’t think the rest of the steeps need that.

Sugar fixes all of the bitterness and makes this blend extremely enjoyable. So if you are looking for a plain black tea I think this one is the best. If I find a better one I will be extremely surprised.

Yes I like this one as well! It’s pretty smooth and a very enjoyable flavor. I take mine black but steep 2 min. and the tannins haven’t had much of a chance to come out, resulting in little bitterness. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Mellow is the right word.
This tea is extremely light of flavor.
Well no one could possibly be offended by any of these flavors so if you don’t like grassy teas you should probably give this one a shot.

Brewed 2 min just below boiling. No additives. Drank Hot.
This tea brews dark in color while the taste is light.
It’s ok.
It kinda tastes like they were roasting Lapsang Souchong and accidentally left this in the room while they were doing it. The smokiness is extremely light but it definitely a Lapsang Souchong type flavor.
Other than that it’s a light, non-vegital green tea.
I don’t really go for the smokiness so like I said, it’s ok. I wouldn’t turn down a cup if it were handed to me but I don’t think I’d buy it to have around the house.

The jasmine is subtle enough to be un-offensive which is nice. And the vanilla really rounds out th flavor. If you like Jasmine that is mellow this is worth giving a shot.

This week has been killing me not-so-softly so I haven’t had time to get on here and do…anything. BUT, I just got a package from Carolyn today packed with tea and OF COURSE I had to make some straight away.

I let this sit for 4 minutes on the first steep, and even though it definitely didn’t make it strong enough for me, I know that I’m going to love this tea. Firstly, the coloring on this tea is absolutely gorgeous, but that’s definitely not all it has going for it. It smelled distinctly of honey, and what surprised me more was that it TASTED of honey. And beyond that I got caramel and a natural kind of sweetness. There’s a complexity to this tea, and it’s rich and smooth and positively, like the name implies, sinful. I drank this first cup pretty slowly, and I can say with some certainty that I like this a lot better on the hot/warm end of the spectrum than on the cooler side, but that’s par for the course for me with black teas.

I’ve got a resteep that I let go for 5 minutes that I’m waiting not-so-patiently to cool. I’m tremendously excited to continue playing around with this tea, and to see what else Carolyn decided to pack away for me. If this is any indication of what she decided to send, it’s probably not just my imagination that hears my bank account whimpering.

I have to get back to this pile of crap I have to finish, but either things are going to calm down soon and I can start catching up with reviews, or I am going to asplode. FUN! In the meantime, I’ve got some likely awesome teas to peruse. [Thanks Carolyn!!!] ACTUAL FUN!

When I first tried this tea I thought I liked it and I ordered a canister of it. Since getting the canister I’ve found that I don’t like it as much as I thought. It may be that I am over-steeping it but it has a strange taste to me.

Typically I like green teas, white teas, yellow teas, and black teas but haven’t much cared for oolongs. On the other hand, I love Golden Moon’s Coconut Pouchong tea, which is also an Oolong. So I’m not certain what is up with me.

Fortunately, I have more of the Sugar Caramel Oolong and can experiment with steep times and temperatures.

takgoti

For something that should be as theoretically simple as boiling [or near-boiling] some water and sticking some leaves in it for x number of minutes, getting certain teas right where you want them can be deceptively difficult. Nearly everyone who talks about making tea uses the phrase “making tea isn’t rocket science.” I think that maybe I even have. But on some days I’m like, “WHAT DO YOU KNOW? MAYBE IT IS! MAYBE IT IS EXACTLY LIKE ROCKET SCIENCE! And uh…please tell me it is because then I won’t feel like such an idiot.”

On a different note, Sugar Caramel Oolong sounds delightful. Let me know if you get it sorted out.

Carolyn

Probably not like rocket science. More like organic chemistry. ;)

I plan this weekend to spend some Oolong time with thermometers and timers. I’ll let you know how it comes out.

This is part of my explorations of Pu-erh teas and it is an interesting one. I do not know whether I like it or not, which is an improvement on many of the pu-erhs I’ve tried.

Second steeping adds a sweeter note.

I love this tea. It brews up into a sweetly scented pale copper colored liquor. It smells and tastes as if a few drops of a Midori had been added to the tea. It is a lovely, luxurious taste.

takgoti

Midori sours are my drink of choice. I drink them like they’re going out of style, and this tea sounds like something which which I could very well fall in love. Time to start queuing up for Golden Moon. I hope you know that I’m blaming you.

drank Rose Tea by Golden Moon Tea

The sweet, hypnotic scent of roses rises from this very pretty tea decorated with rose petals. At a 3:30 minute steep it brews up black and produces a sweet rose-flavored brew. The taste is reminiscent of fine halavah made with rose water. The tea blends well with the rose flavor but its taste is not very prominent.

I bought a canister of this after trying the sample and I’m glad I did. However, it is not an everyday tea. It is something that demands quiet sipping time and space.
Jillian

Mmm I love halavah and this tea sounds delicious. :)

Basically I’ve been living on Sinharaja. It provides me a warm, comforting cup of tea that says, “It’ll be ok. The words will come” as I work through NaNo. It’s not that I don’t want to drink other teas. It’s that this one is easy on the tongue and easy on the mind. I don’t have to worry about temperatures or time and that leaves my mind available for writing.

Jillian

Good luck on the NaNo. I’m not taking part but I’ve got a bunch of short writing (fanfiction, yay) projects for a LJ com that are due by the end of the month. So I’m keeping busy. ;)

Carolyn

Thanks for the good words. Good luck with your own writing.

Oversteeped on purpose to get the strong kick-in-the-pants wake-up power. Today is the start of NaNo and I am definitely feeling as if I want to do nothing except make a blanket cave in my bed and hide in it. Sinharaja is always good, though. I feel marginally less like blanket-caving.

My giant half pound bag of Sinharaja arrived. When I saw it I feared I’d made a terrible mistake. What if I’d been overly optimistic about the tea? A few sips dispelled that. It is still smooth, sweet, and delicious. If aliens came and took every other tea, I could be content drinking nothing but this. Mmmm!

This is my very favorite black tea. It is very difficult to over-steep and doesn’t get bitter and it is very low in tannins. It has lovely chocolate and carmel notes with a slight toastiness. It is definitely a comfort tea for me.

Drinking this with breakfast that was thankfully provided for us this morning. I rarely eat breakfast because the option of sleeping 10 extra minutes is more appealing. Of course those 10 minutes can often turn to 30, but that is a story for another day.

Back to the tea, it goes wonderfully with food. Doesn’t take away from food but doesn’t disappear either. Just a great compliment to a meal. May just have this with lunch too.
