Finished the last of this sample off with my lunch today. I didn’t have enough left for another Gongfu session so I just brewed it Western style. It wasn’t quite as nice as the more nuanced flavours of Gongfu style brewing but there was still a deep malty chocolate kind of flavour that I enjoyed a lot. Unfortunately I tripped on the carpet in our front reception at one point while holding my mug and probably about a third of the tea spilled onto the floor – so I lost part of the mug and then had to help the receptionist tidy up. Good mug overall though and a good sipdown!

Gongfu!

Big thank you to Folium Tea for sending me this tea to try out – I always love exploring new to me companies, but there’s something especially exciting about getting to expand my familiarity with other tea companies local to me.

The dry leaf aroma pulled me in immediately with the rich dark cocoa and roasted peanut notes. Steeped up the liquor was definitely a bit different but still really delicious; I stacked these infusions three at a time in a larger cup while working this afternoon and the overall liquor was thick and syrupy with dominant notes of fermented red fruits with undertones of oak, baked yams, cacao, and just a hint of nuttiness. It was so cloudy from the very large amount of fine downy golden hairs on the buds, and overall was just a rich and flavourful session!
