Not quite sure what happened here. I can smell the cinnamon, I can see the apple pieces…but I taste neither. It’s just extremely sweet caramel. I added a bit of honey, but not enough to skew the flavor profile this much.

Ooooo! I’m kinda liking this! I’m not a huge fan of rooibos, but there isn’t much of that flavor coming through. I’m getting a strong creamy orange with a touch of ginger behind it. It’s ever so slightly sweet, but like the other DDB blends I’m not able to link it to maple in my brain. I also don’t quite get the shortbread part. There is a touch of tartness in the finish that is just distracting enough to make me want to take another sip. I bet this would be good with some creamer, but I’m enjoying it enough as it is. Thanks VariaTEA for the chance to try this!

Hmmm… I’m getting the same strange flavors that I did with DDB’s other EG that I tried. I can smell it, it’s a sharp and bright and comes out in the flavor. It’s less ginseng than the other EG. It’s mellowed out with the addition of cream, but that also kills the rest of the flavors for me. I did not get any cakey flavors though. Not a huge fan of this one, but I super appreciate the chance to try it. Thanks VariaTEA!

Sipdown (277)

I have made this 3 times now and every time I didn’t really get to try it hot. And when I did try it, it would be like one distracted sip and then I would fall asleep or need to attend to something else. So, with this being the last serving, I made a conscious effort to get to it hot and now that I have, I have to say, I am indifferent.

I get cherry, apple, sort of cranberry. Hibiscus, though its not overly tart. Honestly, it might have been better when it was cold. It’s meh.

I know this is such an autumnal tea, but I ended up drinking it earlier in the week because it’s just what my heart wanted. All my seasonal taste preferences are a bit out of wack thanks to the combination of Montreal’s weather (which is giving me serious whiplash between Spring and Winter) and always working on seasonal products at work that are different from the season we’re currently in…

Anyway, the pumpkin spice flavours were spot on but also still light and just a bit creamy. Clove, mace, allspice, and a bit of cinnamon. I think this one resonates so much with me because it’s a bit more clove forward and the cinnamon is one of the lighter spices. It’s the parts of pumpkin spice that are often overshadowed in favour of the fucking cinnamon. Too, too much cinnamon sometimes. Clove and mace, though? Scrumptious combo!

I’m honestly still so in love with this blend. Even though this mug was heavier on the spices, it’s still refreshingly light to medium bodied with a pleasant creaminess that I simply find lacking from most “pumpkin spice style” flavoured tea blends.

#2021SteepsterSipdown

I’m a bit behind in writing my tasting note, but this is the tea that I drank for the “Pizza Inspired” theme day from Mastress Alita’s sipdown thread. I was going to do a pineapple tea initially because that’s, unapologetically, my favourite pizza topping – I even have a Pineapple Bacon tea that I thought would be perfect.

However, people who’ve been around on Steepster for a while might remember that several years ago I made a “Pumpkin Spice Pizza” with a spiced matcha glaze on it. So, I opted to go very non traditional and choose a tea inspired by my Pumpkin Spice Pizza.

I love this tea a lot – it’s probably one of my favourite blends I’ve discovered from Deb. It’s got just the right amount and combination of spice notes to actually make me think of pumpkin pie when I try it, as well as a welcome creaminess. I got such great allspice and clove flavours in this cup in particular – it was cozy and delicious!

Mastress Alita

I thought I had tried Pumpkin Spice everything, but now I see I’m wrong. I haven’t had it as a pizza yet. I’ll have to fix that, someday.

Roswell Strange

I 100% made it as a joke, but it was surprisingly pretty good! Regular pizza crust, pumpkin pie filling in place of tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, basil, cherry tomatoes, oregano and pumpkin spice powder, and a Gingerbread Matcha “syrup” that I used kind of like drizzling honey over a pizza.

Mastress Alita

I’d eat that!

DrowningMySorrows

I’ve made pumpkin lasagna a couple of times so I can kind of see pumpkin pizza working. Actually, pumpkin pizza sounds tastier to me than pumpkin tea.

tea-sipper

Both the pumpkin pizza + pumpkin lasagna sound dreamy. I almost had the pineapple bacon tea for pizza day too…

I’m always skeptical of “pumpkin pie” teas (and in fact pumpkin teas in general) but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this tea! The thing I hate the most about “pumpkin teas” is when they just taste like pumpkin spice and not AT ALL like pumpkin; but this one is very satisfying because while it does have some spice notes, like clove, it also REALLY distinctly still tastes like sweet and creamy pumpkin pie filling! I’m definitely going to run out of this one before Spooky Season is over!

Sipdown. This cup was extremely lavendery, and the bergamot was so sharp. Still enjoyed it quite a bit, though.

Silent Kettle

Ouu! I loved this one. :) I make it as a latte, personally. I’m going to reorder it today for sure.

I’ve been generally over earl grey for the last couple years, but this sounded too good for me to pass up….and I LOVE it. The bergamot is pretty bold, but the lavender is the most prominent flavor for me. The cardamom, vanilla, and bit of maple make It taste like an earl grey lavender cookie. I had it at work this morning, and just started brewing another cup after I got home.

Still loving this tea! Super tasty and comforting.

Yummmmmm. This is the tea that made me place my first Dessert By Deb order. I love hojicha, and feel like it’s so under-utilized in flavored blends. The maple is subtle and works really well here. It’s bready, and the cinnamon is bold. It really tastes like a toasted piece of cinnamon swirl bread. Tried with and without oat milk, and both ways are tasty. I think I prefer with milk.

Silent Kettle

I agree! It is super delicious as a latte

Having this hot tonight or at least it was hot before I lost an hour online looking at bird and bunny videos. Sometimes you need something fluffy to soothe the soul! I’m liking this hot. It has that cooling mint flavor with darker chocolate like notes behind it. It’s slightly sweet. The rooibos isn’t too prominent, which I like. This would be a nice one to have around for an evening cup.

This is why I follow so many pug accounts on Instagram… XD

AJRimmer

Yep, I follow every cat subreddit! And then when my cats are annoying me, I look at bunnies :P

ashmanra

You would love to be at my house! A neighbor was raising rabbits and they escaped and the neighbor hasn’t tried to get them back! We have had over a year of lovely bunnies hopping around. Plus we have our Eastern Cottontails. Naturally a few have been killed by another neighbor’s cat that roams freely. There were many, and they have had several batches of babies. There are still three living wild, and one neighbor has captured three more that they keep as pets, and two beautiful white and gray lionhead babies were captured and I gave them to my student!

Dustin

I feel like there needs to be an ASMR type category for animal videos that make you feel better! Some way to label them so you can do a quick search for soul soothing results.

Mastress Alita

I’m all down for a “share your pet photos/favorite cute animal pictures/videos” thread in the forums. Tea and cute animals both soothe the soul, so it’s on topic, right? Right?

Taking the advice written on this sample from VariaTEA to have this as an iced latte and it feels like the right choice. I get a bit of the rooibos, but it’s toned down more than if it was hot. I think I get more mint than chocolate, but I get a little chocolate too. It’s an interesting mix of mints. I can pick them out individually, but they also melt together well. I’d love to see DDB do this on a black base!

I put the rest of this sample in a mason jar in the fridge one night, swearing to myself I wouldn’t forget it the next morning… and did exactly that. I’m not sure how long it’s been in there at this point other than less than a week. I ran out of creamer about a week ago as well. Trader Joe’s rarely has it in stock because they sell out so fast and are limited by distribution on how many they can order for each day. All that to say no lattes for me. Still, this is a decent cup. As I’ve been sipping it I’ll run into one sip that has a flatness to it only to have it gone for a few more sips. I’m sure I didn’t do this tea any favors with days in the fridge. The start of the sip is muted, but towards the end the coconut comes out and there is a sweetness from the maple. I do wish there was a little more maple flavor instead of just the sweetness. Somewhere in the finish I think I get custard like notes. This was a fun tea to try!

The first few sips of this took some getting used to. Sometimes when I start a cup of tea it take a few sips to get into it and used to the flavors. Same with wine. Once I get over that I notice a slightly malty flavor and creamy coconut with a little sweetness to it. I’m having a hard time getting maple though. The flavor seems pretty subtle. I feel like it smells more custardy than it tastes. I’ll have to try the next cup cold steeped.

I’m always a sucker for a Hojicha. It has such a warming flavor that pairs well with cinnamon. I can taste other flavors, which I’m guessing is the raisin. It does have a sort of baked flavor about it and reminds me of a Lupicia tea I have that has apricot and cinnamon. It’s good and might be something I’d consider ordering if I didn’t already have a similar tea. It’s nice to see teas other than the standard green or black being used in a blend!

I agree! It is a creative blend, like the fireside s’mores which utilized lapsang souchong. I will definitely be re-ordering this (as soon as I make my way through the rest of my Dessert by Deb Order, lol)

drank Lemon Coconut Pie by Dessert by Deb
1711 tasting notes

Sipped this tea down today! I probably overleafed it a bit, but it was a nice cup. I’m kind of surprised it didn’t have custard in the name because custard flavors were the first thing I noticed. The coconut was more subtle and the lemon part just melted into the custard flavors and didn’t stand out on it’s own for me. I was also wolfing down a bowl of ramen at the same time as drinking this cup, caught off guard my my hunger, so I didn’t get to focus on my tea as much as I often do. I might give a second steeping a go later this evening.

I like this one better than the other DBB lemon tea. It has a nice malty base, but that is the most prominent flavor. I get some coconut that makes it creamy, but I’m not getting much lemon. The coconut is harder to pick out once the cup cools. This tea doesn’t make me think lemon coconut pie.

Agreed. This is better than the lemon berry scone – both need more lemon though.

I’m tasting sugar for sure, a brown sugar flavor. It’s also a little sweet. Not getting a super prominent lemon taste in the sip. Maybe I can evoke a cooked lemon if I really try. The finish has a hint of lemon, but by then most of the other flavors are gone. I feel like this blend is missing something if it was going to live up to it’s namesake.

Over leafed this a bit in a successful mission to sip down this sample that VariaTEA sent my way. I think I like it better this time. It is super buttery with an almost thick feeling. The coconut seems to blend into the buttery taste and not stand out much on it’s own. The maple crystals aren’t distracting in here like I found them to be in a different DBD blend. There is something in the sip that starts off like it wants to be tart and then quickly changes it’s mind and disappears. I still don’t get the toffee notes. I feel like buttercream frosting would have been a better name for this, especially if there was vanilla in there. Or maybe a pun off of Paula Dean’s apparent tendency to drink melted butter? Man I’m glad her window of fame has appeared to come to a close. It was a little jarring seeing her super excited intense smile all over the place for a while when you weren’t expecting it! Teeth so white and glowing you know she never drinks tea. It’s unnatural to not drink tea. Just can’t trust a smile like that. ;D
Back to this cup of tea… It has a nice long buttery finish to it which I like and might be my favorite part about each sip. I’m not getting rooibos standing out at all which I appreciate. It’s a good cup that I’d have again if we crossed paths, but not something I’m moved to buy.

Ha yeah, I haven’t gone to the dentist in a year because I don’t want to take my mask off in public. My teeth are BROWN.

Dustin

I’ve tried at home whitening stuff, but my teeth are so sensitive that it was an awful experience. I should talk to my dentist about whitening options, but I’m with ya on not wanting to de-mask anywhere. My vanity will have to wait. Not like anyone is going to see the state of my mouth with a mask on anyways!

Martin Bednář

Don’t even ask when I have been to dentist for last time. I just can’t afford it!

tea-sipper

Yeah, one day I wondered why Paula Deen was never on my tv anymore. very odd. haha.

Dustin

I used to go to the dental school and have the students work on me for a large discount in services when I didn’t have insurance.
Didn’t PD get caught in some racist rant or something and get dropped like a hot coal from all her gigs? I should google this before I go too far down the can’t quite recall road!

tea-sipper

oh, maybe. i don’t know. if only all racist people could become irrelevant that fast.

I think this was better when it was hot. It was still missing something in the first half of the sip before it transitioned to a nice finish, but the issue becomes more prominent when the cup has cooled. Maybe it’s the rooibos that is distracting me. It definitely has come out more in the cooled cup. I was getting a buttery flavor with a hint of toffee, but it wasn’t as strong or bold of a presence as I would like. There is also a sweetness to it… stevia? Super glad to have had the chance to try this (thanks to VariaTea), but I don’t think this one is for me.

Perhaps maple? She really likes adding maple crystals into her tea and sometimes it works and other times it very much doesn’t.

Dustin

Ah! Yeah, maybe! I might be able to get into it more if I think maple.
