Tea of the afternoon….

I seem to be on a dessert tea kick. Not really a problem, as it is time to settle into a better routine. Somehow, the dessert teas help me stay away from the real thing….

This one is buttery and sweet like a Brach’s butterscotch candy. Yum.

Oh Buttered Rum, How I love thee….. Creamy, buttery, sweet, coconutty, and something ‘otherly’ that must be rum.

And I am eternally grateful to my generous Canadian tea drinking friends who have helped supply my addiction! Thank you to Ottawa Tea, Uniquity, and the most recent package from aisling of tea. I do think I could be bribed to do just about anything with the promise of Buttered Rum. (I probably shouldn’t have said that!)

I owe so many for keeping me supplied in this tea. My first portion arrived from Ottawa Tea, then a sample from Jillian, and then I was able to do a great across the border swap with Uniquity for an amount larger than a sample just before the Canada postal strike. Yes, you could say I would go to many lengths to have this tea on hand. Thank you all for your generosity, and willingness to take a chance on the postal system!

This cup is smooth, sweet, and buttery tasting, with a hint of coconut. Yum. Definitely one of my favorites! I do think this one has the power to make any day brighter for me. Mmmmmm. And this time a brewed a small pot worth.

Oh Man! This is as good as everyone says it is! It really tastes like a butterscotch candy with a little sweetener added! Yum! I NEED it! Thank you Ottawa Tea for an awesome swap!

I am so torn on ordering, though. I DO NOT need $50 worth of tea…..as I already have a year’s supply and then some. I guess it is time to do some serious tea drinking so I can make some space!

Another sample to try, compared to the saigon chai this one is like… powder. It doesn’t nearly smell as spicy either. Personally, I hate tea dust. It’s hard to clean up and even using a french press doesn’t always stop bits falling in. So the kicker is that this chai comes with what.. guarana berries? Personally I have no idea what that is supposed to taste like (even after drinking energy drinks) so I was curious to see which one between this and the saigon chai to buy.

Smells a little bit odd, I can smell the cinnamon and the anise but not so much the ginger. It is pretty easy to drink, not too spicy not too overwhelming feels like the ginger is just in the background. It’s funny though, I always think cloves are necessary in a chai but this one has none. Anyways, the berries don’t taste like much I assume and this chai is rather pedestrian. Between this and the saigon, this one cost $2 more per 50g and comes in choppy flakes. I think it’s a no-brainer to go for the cheaper and more full flavour saigon instead. I guess you can buy some guarana seed powder and dump it in any tea if you really think it makes a difference.

so after my vacation filled with deeeelicious but terrible (for my health!) food, I’ve been in need of some restorative teas the last few days!!! and this, well for the purposes of fixing my tummy woes, well it really did the trick.
The first time I tried it, I was evaluating for usefulness as a sleepy time tea. and now, well I think it’s more of a soother for the ill!!
The lovely girl in the shop recommended it, and we got into a conversation about the teas many uses… which then sold me on buying a cuppa and I am really glad I did.
Anyhow, my rating here is based on how effective it was in fixing me. and that when I needed it, it tasted like gold. Somehow, when I’m fiddle fit, it tastes ok but I guess that’s just cause the magic hasn’t been activated by need ;)

This tea definitely makes me sleepy. Between that, and the Bikram yoga class I took a few hours ago, I am ready to crash!!
However, I am not all that impressed with the taste. It’s ALL mint and not much else… and ginger? is that the valerian? bah, I’m willing to give it another try, if I can manage to take out some of the mint… but if that doesn’t work, well I already have a peppermint tea, why do I need another just like it??
So, points for usefulness, but none for taste.

My tin must be a freak aberration. i get mostly chamomile and valerian, and occasionally a hint of mint. I’d prefer more mint to cover up the chamomile I so hate..

Indigobloom

that is odd! I see very little chamomile in the sample bag I got. Valerian can cause heart problems, so it’s not something I want to get hooked on anyhow

Probably one of my favourite from Davids so far. I didn’t pick this one up when I first grabbed some of the Spring Collection. I have no idea why I passed over this one!

First off: the smell is phenomenal. I wish this came as a candle. The taste is tart, but juicy and refreshing. Sometimes I find that hot teas don’t quench my thirst, but this one definitely did. It was still tasty as it got colder. The only problem is (as others have pointed out) that I feel like I have to ration it out since there’s two tsp per cup. It is a little pricey, but I appreciate that I can just freely drink it.

I did a cold brew to see how it was iced. Three tsp in a big glass of water (16-ish oz) in the fridge for a couple of hours. A little weak, but lovely and refreshing.

I’ll definitely be restocking this in case it disappears when the Summer collection comes out!

I’m not a fan of fruit/herbal teas, but a colleague at work offered some to try so of course I said yes (it’s DAVIDsTEA, hello!!?).

I can say that it is pleasant. I was looking forward to the melon taste and I think that helps sweeten it up a little, but I find the lemon a little overpowering. Overall, I’d say, thanks for the cup, but I think I’ll go buy some David’s Organic Breakfast and/or drink some Black Needles. ;)

EDIT: The one thing I DO love about fruit teas is that you can eat them after you’re done! NOMNOMNOMNOM

drank Coffee Pu'erh by DAVIDsTEA

This was a pretty enjoyable cup, forgotten and steeped a little longer than intended (about 9 minutes), but maybe that’s what made it probably the best cup of this I’ve had so far. I still don’t think I’ll be buying anymore, though.

It tastes somewhat like coffee, but like a flavoured, almost sweetened coffee but of course with a bit of the earthy pu-erh characteristics.

Another one of my samples I picked up last time, asked the sales associate there to recommended me one of the new teas from the wellness collection and she came up with the glow and this one. I chose this one because I do drink coffee and well… It simply smelled better. And well, it’s supposed to replace coffee right? So I will grade it based on those merits.

Steeped about halfway of the 4-7 minutes recommended on the label and used a teaspoon and a half of the stuff, comes out… looking really alot like coffee, well without any coffee creama. It does taste bitter (warning!) but I drink black coffees and espressos so I would say more bitter than a light roast but on par with a darker roast coffee. I would say you probably can get away with using less substance and a longer steep. I love the vanilla taste that comes along too, very nice. The almond comes through a lot less. Like coffee this is best when hot, there is also little aftertaste.

I never heard of this chicory root thing, so I googled it up and wow, people have been using it for ages for coffee substitute and I can see why. So it was fun to try out, colour and taste.. almost coffee-like. Slightly sweeter I must say too. Now at $8 for 50 grams, I don’t think I’ll be giving up coffee for this, besides I like my coffee and there’s plenty of tisanes that I can drink when I want no caffeine. Interesting to try and I am sure many people will like this one!

I agree with everything here! but did you find the licorice?? for the life of me… I’m having trouble with that

politicalmachine

hmm that, I did not taste much at all, actually i wasn’t aware there was any licorice/anise flavour at all!

Indigobloom

that’s what the girl at the shop said… but I think she was mistaken now. There are so many to track

Normally I’m not big on chai teas and the spices but there comes to a time when you get tired of the same old and want to try something new. I picked up a tiny bit of this tea as a sample last week and finally decided to try it today.

Smells like cinnamon, looks really nice, i see a good mix of everything: assam, ginger, cloves, peppercorns, and cardamoms. I’m happy there is no anise, I hate that stuff Not terribly strong, and not terribly spicy this is really easy to drink (for me at least). It does remind me of the Coco Chai Rooibos, but i think this one does a better job with the black tea… actually… some coconut might be good with it.. Happy with it so far, might add some sugar next time in to see what the difference is but I think I wouldn’t mind getting some more of this to drink from time to time.

Smells like apple crisp, which is odd since there’s no apples. The cinnamon really comes through in the smell and taste. Overall, the taste is very light, not as floral as would be expected considering the roses and jasmine flowers. I find that I need to put a larger quantity of tea in my filter and leave it in longer in order for it to taste at all. Makes a nice cup for a mellow afternoon or evening, though perhaps not as intense a flavour as I would have hoped for.

I got a little sample of this from an online order of DavidsTea. Since it’s hailing outside and the sky is dark and angry, I decided I could use a little dreamsicle magic this morning.

The smell of the tea is spot on like an orange creamsicle. I’m not a huge fan of those, but the smell of the chocolate and orange in the dry mix was really cheering me up. I used the whole sample tin, which was maybe closer to 2 tsp, but I chose an extra large mug to steep it in.

The taste is definitely more orange as others have said, with a bit of a green tea background and some sweet white chocolatey after taste. As the tea cools, the creamsicle taste really comes through in an extra creamy way, but the green tea taste has completely disappeared. Overall, it’s a nice treat, but it’s quite sweet. I don’t know if this is something I would have every day or if I would actually go and buy some, but the popsicle mould idea definitely intrigues me…

I found this tea to be alright. There was something a little odd about the taste that I couldnt put my finger on. Not something I would drink on a regular basis, but every once in awhile it would be a nice treat. Also..very intrigued by the other comments of putting it in popsicle molds and freezing it.

Tastes mostly like a blend of spearmint and lemongrass. Has a very mild flavour. I usually don’t enjoy lemongrass as much, but it blends nicely with the spearmint for a generally soothing experience. I think it will be a nice tea for a sore throat day, but I usually prefer something more flavourful for an every day type of tea.

This is a interesting tea. The scent of the brewed tea had me worried. It smells very much of an orange medication.. I’m thinking liquid Motrin with a bit of dirt in the background. The taste actually isn’t that bad. There is a real citrus component with a little bit of an earthy flavor. Even though it’s strange, it is awfully smooth. The smooth character is its redeeming quality! Many thanks to ladykittykat for a sample!
