This note is based on what happened at my Kids Klub Site while making Sun Steeped tea with the children in my care.
Again we used the Rubbermaid containers, which I filled with hot tap water, and we placed three T-sacs full of tea into these containers.
The children were more taken with the scent of this tea, unsteeped to the point they were willing to try and slip the watermelon chunks into their mouths. “Kids, if you eat the watermelon it will just be a red apple tea…” – “But it smells like melon bubblegum!”
We used the same steeping process again, leaving the tea outside in direct sun light between 8am and 1pm, then placed the tea into the fridge and not removing the T-sacs until it was snack time (the tea still steeps a little as it cools in the fridge)
This time the children did not ask for juice because I brought my Agave and added 1 perfect scoop to each pitcher.
This one got rave reviews to the point that children were begging their parents to take them to DAVIDs for more tea. There were some eyes that glazed over, but I told parents the fruit and herbal teas at DAVIDs are really fool proof and with the help of their knowledgeable staff they’ll be able to make perfect pitchers at home.
Preparation
Hmmmm
After the mishap with Goji Pop, I still had lemonade made that was waiting for an extra summery kick, I added some Luscious Watermelon… The verdict is still out, but here is the set-up.
I prepped a jug of Crystal Light (I know groan) Lemonade (or Chemicals in a Jug), I always add an extra half litre of water.
In a 2 cup wet measure cup I put in 4 heaping (perfect) scoops of tea, pour on boiling water and let steep. Add to lemonade after it had cooled, and some twisted leaves of lemon mint…
Wait for it, wait for it….
Mmmmm!! I wish I could share!!
The kids at the OSC (out of school care) center I work at had a little sip of my iced version of this tea today and are super excited for next week when they get to make sun tea with this delightful concoction!
evil laugh turning children away from pop one sip of herbal tea at a time!
Today is the last time I will make this tea until I purchase more, 6tsp into my 8 cup botum and I will pour this over ice because I just LOVE this iced! It is all I have been drinking in the afternoon on ice at work!
Can you see my pouty face? Maybe I should be 200g next time, instead of just 50g…
Oh Lime Gelato, how you make people jealous of us!
I love this tea, I love making it at work in my glass botum and the astonisment of the children as the leaves unfold and the steam fills the room with the delicious lime gelato scent to the point that the oldest child in my care yells: “I can taste the lime gelato in the air!”
I will soon be to the bottom of this tin and a little sad about it, but… but… I know there is still time to buy some more, and maybe DAVIDsTEA will keep this one as a “seasonal item” (at least please keep it on the shelves until September! PLEASE!?!
This delightful guy went really well with the Noodle Box dinner that was served at last nights Summer Training Meeting! Mmmm the lime flavour added that extra punch to my Thai Red Curry dish, and even helped cool the “THIS is NOT MILD Spice” reaction I had to my first and subsequent bites of food. Thank goodness for that!
I love, love, LOVE this tea but I am not sure I could ever enjoy it hot, it just would not work!
Mmmmm, iced is my friend!
I iced this bad boy up to help me through the Summer Program training tonight, I needed just enough caffine to get me to 9pm but now so much that I would be up all night.
I placed 3 tea spoons into an 8 cup bodum and added 1.5 cups of hot water (from the water cooler) and accidentally let this steep for a full 2 hrs before pouring it over ice. Not overly bitter, but the creamy note really came through this time; delish!
I think this will be my mid-day tea for summer!
It’s not as I remember it, I am still tasting a LOT of lime rind and nothing else. There is a slight astringency that lets me know the black tea is there, but that is about it.
I am really sad, because this was my first DAVIDsTEA experience, and although I know it was not be my last; it is still saddening to know that it is just not for me anymore.
