I was a bit skeptical about this one to say the least, especially after having tried Cinnamon Hearts (Davids) and not being thrilled. boy was I judging this book by the wrong cover! Cinnamon Rooibos Chai is a wonderful tea, especially during the fall season when I always crave these spices. The cinnamon is quite strong so if you’re a fan of Cinnamon heart candy I’d say definitely give this tea a shot! I like mine clear with a little bit of honey to cut the acidity since I let mine steep quite a while. I also drop half a cinnamon stick into the teapot to make it even spicier. While there is not a ton of caffeine in this one, it does help to maintain focus and mental clarity if you’re up far too late working on an essay for instance… :)

buttery? yes. grassy? a little. unique? yeah, I’ll give it that…
However all of these things are overshadowed by the fact that this is yet another green tea which makes me nauseous :(
I couldn’t even finish a second steep…
—funny, the teas that I expect will be ok are not, and vice versa. le sigh

Kashyap

so sad….if you want to use it in a recipie…its great sprinkled on salmon, or crushed in a mortar ’n’pestle and emuslified in butter as basted on fish

Indigobloom

sadness indeed! :(
thankfully I only bought the cup… so I have none to use up!

Indigobloom

but I do love me some fish… mmmm…

Winter Salo

Good thing you only had the cup – I hate it when I have tea sitting around that there’s no way I can drink again.

Kashyap: Never thought of putting it on fish will have to try that. Great tip.

Indigobloom

yes, I agree that is the worst! I usually end up giving it away to whoever wants my handmedowns…

AliPants

Do you tend to try your green teas on an empty stomach? Or near empty stomach? For some reason, green tea can nauseate when you are drinking it without much in your stomach. I’ve come close to throwing up before. Anyway, I find that heavier/nuttier green teas will keep this nausea at bay – Try David’s Toasted Walnut! Or Genmaicha, if you haven’t already.

Indigobloom

AliPants:
This particular instance was maybe 2 hrs after breakfast… so I was neither hungry nor full. Maybe I’ll try it shortly after lunch sometime. I really do enjoy most Genmaichas. The rice seems to cut the ick factor for me.
As for toasted walnut, I did try that! It was nice :)
thx AliP!!

I’ve been suffering from a nasty stomach ache all day. This morning, I wasn’t thinking right and made mint green tea, and a regular black tea. D’oh!
To be fair, this was my last resort, since I only had one cup left of my meager sample. Well, that’s my fault because I only ever have any of this one when I’m ill, which isn’t often, so I don’t want it to go bad and don’t keep much on hand.
Sad thing is, I can’t even consider it a real sipdown, cuz I’ll be going by the DT store asap to pick up another 10g… maybe 15g. That’s what I did last time and it lasted me nearly a year. Still it’s an essential part of my cupboard and one of the very few blends I actually enjoy from them.
Bah! It is what it is. Right?! (ie a delicious blend that I adore when sick!)
My tummy feels a bit better now, but I fear it’ll get worse again once the effects of the tea wears off. Too bad I have a conference call in a few hrs, and lots of housework to get done before that!

Veronica

Hope you feel better soon!

Bonnie

Get better girly!

Plunkybug

I love my ginger teas for upset stomachs, which i get all too frequently.

Indigobloom

Thanks ladies!! I’m a bit better today :D

Heather, I’ve been getting this strange, sudden knot in my stomach that lasts usually an hour or so. But this time, it was less intense and didn’t go away! :/
I should have known my ginger tea would do the trick!!

So after Cold 911 denied me any relief, I just had to have some of my precious Ginger Pu’erh tea. it really did work wonders! Tea gold this one is.
Oh and I know I’m super congested because I could barely taste the ginger! and there was no hint of fishiness either. Hey, I’m not complaining! :)

Plunkybug

I’m drinking Organic Nettle right now to help kick out the crud that wants to take residence. I think I need a super duper ginger tea too.

Indigobloom

I definitely recommend this one as a super duper ginger tea! if you can get ahold of some :)

backlog!
So I had the flu… (I think? it was an odd one if it was) and this tea made it allll better. Oh yes it did!!!
On any normal day, I despise ginger. It is my food nemesis! It taints anything it touches… (except gingerbread cookies. Who doesn’t love those?!)
…But when I’m sick? well yeee haw! I love it!!
I consider it the only perk of being sick… all the teas I can’t tolerate for fear of drowning my palate in the pungent biting root are suddenly my best friend! and then it makes me better?!
Oh and my fear of pu-erh? Yeah, when I’m sick, that’s gone to…

now, I’ll never have the courage to try this when I’m a healthy human, so my rating is based on my flu-meter :)
Oh yah the tea…
So it was not as gingery as I expected, and I did need to add some honey so that the pu-erh didn’t come through so bitter… but I was really surprised about the creamy aspect that revealed itself as the cup cooled. Mmmmm.
I hope they don’t ever get rid of this one. I don’t get sick often enough to warrant buying any, but I’m so glad to know it’s around just in case!

I’m a little sick today so I decided to break into my pu’erh and was quite happy at the slight smokiness and earth tones in this tea. I’m sure there are better Pu’erh out there but I’m quite enjoying this blend.

I usually bypass the rooibos section altogether, because there’s just something that I don’t like about the flavour of red rooibos. Fair enough.

But green rooibos? Oh hello!

The clerk at Davids convinced me to give this one a go, since I do enjoy lemongrass and citrus teas, and I couldn’t detect a rooibos scent from the tin at all, so I figured, why not.

And you know what? It’s lovely!

I’ve had it hot in the past, and it’s good. But I just poured myself a glass of this bright yellow iced brew, and it’s absolutely delicious. There’s a nice sweetness to it, and the lemon isn’t too tart. You can definitely taste the different layers of lemon flavour as well. Floral and fruity and all-around nice.

If I think about it, I can taste the rooibos note, but it’s definitely not the same flavour as red rooibos. Much gentler, with no aftertaste. I think I might just be a fan.

A cup of The Glow before bed makes me a happy girl.

And maybe a prettier one. But not likely.

It’s got a gently floral apple cinnamon flavour. And while I don’t normally go for rooibos, if there is any in here, I can’t taste it. All I taste is relaxation and yummy.

Thanks Rumpus for the swap! This smelled so heavenly when I opened it that it jumped the line of new swapped teas to try. I seem to have forgotten how to make tea in my beehouse teapot (how many cups is it again? 2? 3?) so I tend to err on the side of using more tea rather than less. I think the pot holds three cups, but my mugs are technically 12 oz so I only get about 2 mugs full. So normally I’d use 3 tsp for a black tea and between 4 and 5 for a mate, but holdup, this wants 1.25 tsp per cup? Sheesh David’s Tea, I don’t think this early in the morning and I certainly don’t do math so it’s possible I didn’t brew this right (I put in about 4-5 tsps just to be safe).

This continued to smell heavenly as it was being brewed. I’m working from home today to keep my dog from trying to scare the bajeesus out of the guys installing carpet outside our condo so I poured myself a cup and sat down on the couch to get to work. First sip…yum…but weak. I get no real coconut or vanilla notes from it, mainly just rum. At least I think it’s rum. I’m not a big drinker and when I do drink it’s usually things that do their darndest to mask the alcohol flavor.

As it cools I’m getting more of the flavors and enjoying the tea more. Not sure yet if I’d purchase it myself, but I’m happy I tried it.

Thanks again Rumpus!

As others have noted the smell is very medicinal, lets take a sip…

Hmmm… not unlike Raspberry Nectar, except I find the lemongrass much more tolerable in this. Not the greatest of flavours, but something about this tea just feels detoxifying! I like this so much better than some of the other wellness teas I have tried (Skinny and The Cardio, I’m lookin’ at you!) and it’s exactly what I need after a meat-and-junk-food filled weekend with the in-laws.

Gave another sample of this a try. I have a tin somewhere at home, but am trying to clear out samples. This one was composed more like what I am used to, with visible pieces of fruit. There was something that loooked like a strawberry in my cup, enticing me. While this is better than my last tasting (I decreased water temperature a bit in deference to the green tea) it still takes on a bitter edge toward the end. I truly wish there were no black tea in this blend, I think I would enjoy it more without that addition. At first I get a sweet green tea taste, not overly vegetal but clearly green with a hint of fruit and then the bolder black tea steps up the plate to dominate the finish. It’s rare that I want a green tea, but I think they are starting to grow on me…

Uniquity

Second steep yields a sweet hay sort of flavour with a hint of pepperiness at the end. Aftertaste is slightly astringent black tea. No discernible fruit, but actually really enjoyable. Used hotter water in the second steep and added a minute in steep time. Yummy!

Cattibrie

Glad you liked it this time. I really enjoy this one myself.

Using a free sample obtained from David’s Tea during their recent birthdy party. Intriguingly, this sample has no fruit pieces in it, which I remember featuring in the blend. This was one of my first DT favourites, one of the few I have refilled my tin of. However, apparently I haven’t had it in almost a year. A year later, I wonder what I think of it. I’m starting to think that perhaps knowing too much about tea ruins my enjoyment of it…I used to just try anything and give it a go, but now I have certain prejudices against ingredients, base teas, and additives. So when I noticed green rooibos in this (which I surely wouldn’t have when I first tried it) I was uneasy. Also, there is green AND black tea in this. Now I think that’s weird. I’ve steeped this as a green, to be safe.

Smells…like green and black tea. Kinda hard to explain, but they are both present in aroma with a fruity something sticking around afterward. Tastewise, I am disappointed. I might have over-steeped it for a black, or steeped it too hot for a green but this is a little bitter. The fruitiness is very vague, and I mostly get a sense of slightly burnt black tea, not of exceptional quality, either. I think a hint of sweetness would save this cup, but I’m not much for that. I am pretty certain it is the black tea that is throwing this off… Will try again under better circumstance another time. I really do remember enjoying it!

Devilish

It is indeed weird that they blend black with green tea! :0 I haven’t tried anything like that before, and I am not sure whether I want to… so the best steeping temperature is maybe… 90 degree Celsius (average of green and black tea steeping temperature)??

TeaEqualsBliss

There are some GREAT black and Green Blends out there :) Some are convinced there are additional health benefits by blending the two :)

LiberTEAS

I recommend using the steeping parameters for the green rather than the black or an average, only because the addition of the black tea doesn’t make the green tea any less delicate, and you may still risk scalding the green tea leaves using water that is too hot. My suggestion would be to use a lower temperature but a slightly longer steep time.

Devilish

Thanks LiberTEAS for the tip :)

Cattibrie

I am confused. Where do you see that it has black and green rooibos in it? The package doesn’t say anything about that. It just says it is a green tea with green tea steeping info. Sorry if I am being dense. I really enjoy this one personally. But maybe the difference is that mine has lots of pomegrante pieces (seeds?) in it.

Uniquity

If you look up the ingredients on the website (http://www.davidstea.com/green-seduction) it lists (organic) green tea, (organic) black tea and (organic) green rooibos. And some other stuff. : ) I have had this one before and used to really like it, but never realized just how much is going on in it.

Cattibrie

Thanks Uniquity. I wish they would list that info in the little blurb aboiut the tea. Or have a section for mixed teas. I really thought this was just a green.

Uniquity

I love David’s Tea, but their blurbs are a little cagey. I think they’re cute, but highly inadequate, because the only way to see ingredients is to ask in store (if the clerk knows) or check the website. Except, once they discontinue a tea they take it offline and then you’ll never know. Their ingredients lists are really helpful once you find them though.

Cattibrie

I left a message on their facebook page about this and was told that they are in the process of getting the ingredients to print out on the labels. Hope it is soon since there are way to many teas for the staff to be able to know what is in each one.

Dravistich

A black-green? Maybe this could transition me to green tea. (I am accustomed to black tea, especially Twinings…mmmm)

drank Carrot Cake by DAVIDsTEA
516 tasting notes

Sooo I finally got around to trying this today!
And sadly it is not for me (I took it off my shopping list haha)

There are a few things as to why it’s not good for me though, and it might mean that it’s a good tea for you!
First of all, it was a “to go” tea, but it didn’t taste burnt or bitter so , meh who knows!
Second, it does taste like carrot cake.

BUT

Not the kind of carrot cake I like. haha. I’m a bit picky when it comes to my carrot cake. It has to have pineapple for yummy moistness, and most importantly, cream cheese icing. Without the cream cheese, it’s just like a spice cake to me, which is the hugest “meh” taste to me – for whatever reason.

So on that note, it tastes like carrot cake. But not MY carrot cake. Aren’t I special haha! Blame my grandma for instilling C-Cake tradition in me n_-

nomadinjeopardy

I like this tea, but I definitely hear you on the cream cheese icing. I think everything should be slathered in cream cheese icing, really.

Jenn

NOOOOOO! I ordered Carrot Cake in my last possible divorce causing DAVIDs order. You and I are like taste twins and that means that I may not like this on either. Oh man…

Daisy Chubb

Don’t despair just yet!!
It’s still a huge possibility that they steeped it wrong and bad in the store. Also I haven’t had a chance to try it with cream, which might take it over the top… don’t worry Jenn! :)

@Jessie – Yes pls. Cream cheese icing slathered world.

Plunkybug

I too, got this as a to-go tea, and was unimpressed..however, I do find that the to-go teas are considerably weaker than the way I make them, and I bet, as a latte with foamy milk, that might just be the thing. I am tempted to get maybe 25-30g of this, as I have been tempted by the seasonal tin (not like I have any space to store it though).

This is the first Gyokuro I’ve ever tried. It was nice, but not astounding. It tasted like a nice but standard sencha to me. Light, buttery, slightly grassy. I’ll have to try some other Gyokuros to compare. Also, why am I following package instructions lately? It’s not working for me. I went with 2 minutes and this was starting to turn bitter. It would definitely have been nicer starting with shorter infusions.

Huh. I thought I didn’t like this tea, but looking back at my rating, apparently I did like it. Ah well, it’s been sitting in our cupboard for way too long. I cold steeped it today and again for tomorrow to use up the last of the tin.

it is hibiscus, which is why I thought I didn’t like it, but iced, the cinnamon wins out and it’s a tart treat. The lemon works in wonderfully and it’s just a yummy cup.

I was craving cold tea yesterday and I had just stopped into DavidsTea, so I made a pot of this. It’s kind of sad, isn’t it, that I work a few hundred feet from DavidsTea, but at no point do I get a break long enough to run out and get a cup >.<

Anyway, this tea intrigued me and, let’s face it, I’m a sucker for an interesting tin. I’m kind of in love. Iced, it’s nice and refreshing, but the spices work to somehow make it warm and comforting as well. It’s magic! Everyone should try this….yum.

I really want to try this one. I am hoping it will replace Pink Flamingo for me.

Daddyselephant

The girl in store tried to sell it to the ever so annoying chick behind me in line using that argument. The girl came in looking for Pink Flamingo, and left with Green and Fruity. o.O. Anyway, I dunno. I see a slight resemblance, but my favorite part of PF was the citrus, which I didn’t find in this tea. Still, it’s darn good! I wasn’t a fan of PF, and I ma a fan of this, so shrugs

Cattibrie

Thanks for the info. I think I will give it a try and hope. I wish I could find a grapefruit tea like Pink Flamingo. Or I really hope they bring it back in the spring.
