I wasn’t sure about the ginger, but this tastes very good and smooth! It is not the same ginger that you once thought would burn your oesophagus. And I wish there was a stronger Puerh base, but I’m content with the oolong-puerh balance. Still..I taste orange?!

My first maté, and it tastes exactly like if you put a handful of chocolate chips in a bag of gummy raspberries. Need I say more?

Mmm. While not spectacular, I still really enjoyed my mug of this. I probably won’t buy more of it, but I do like it.

Part of my advent calendar (sorry, I lost track of days!).

Made this then poured it over ice last night, then resteeped the leaves for a cold steeping. I’m drinking that second steeping and I really think this is the way to do it.

Before when I cold steeped this, I didn’t think the creamy yogurt flavor really came out. After the leaves were used hot, I think it helped out on the cold steeping. I taste everything in there. It was fine brewed hot then poured over ice but it’s even better tonight. I think if this makes it to the months where it should be warm, the bag I have won’t make it to summer!

I didn’t think this was going to work as a cold press iced tea. I thought that maybe the creaminess from the yogurt wouldn’t come through since the yogurt bits wouldn’t be melting.

Oh no was I wrong. Looks like an ideal way to make this tea.

Cool bonus tip: the Argo tea bottles that they sell their teas in at like Whole Foods make for awesome containers to do overnight cold steeping. Just make it in there and strain into a glass, perfect!

In the bag it smell of the tea reminds me a lot of Red Mango frozen yogurt. It doesn’t smell quite the same in the liquor, where the lime becomes more lime than something vaguely tarty with the yogurt before.

This seems like another one that would be better cold. That’s okay, since in the coming days it’s going to quit being cold anyway. Nothing like going from using your winter coat to not needing one in 48 hours…ugh.

Anyway, there is just something I don’t like about the taste upon first sip. Beyond that though it is so good, I love how it turns creamy and I get the lime flavor. I don’t know though what it is that I just don’t like. I can feel it in my nose when I take a sip and it’s just gross. It can’t possibly be the lemongrass because my favorite foods ever involve lemongrass…wahhh. I’ll let it cool off and taste it cold instead now.

ETA: it’s now lukewarm and it is so much better. Iced only it is then!

i thought i was going crazy and was the only one who didn’t love this tea…. i like it iced….but warm its just bleh…

Oh. My. Goodness.

The scent of this this tea is amazing. Strong, rich, the almond and fruity notes melding to create something reminiscent of cherry.

This comes through in the taste, though it was more subtle than I’d have liked it. I definitely want a longer steep and/or more tea in next time, and see how that changes the flavour. Still, especially with the scent, which blew me away both in the can and in the cup, and the lovely almondy notes, I can’t find much fault with this tea at all.

Not putting preparation details down because I was literally handed a full cup of this when I went into DAVIDsTEA today — an extra had been brewed and I was offered the results. I was down at in the dumps at the time, so this was the best pick-me-up I could’ve possibly ask for. While it didn’t affect the flavour at all, it certainly made the cup much more cheerful than I ever could have expected.

I added (almond) milk for this one, and agave. Tastes exactly like Creme de Menthe. Along with ‘’Oh Christmas Treat’‘, these are delicious Puerhs that don’t have too much of an earthy taste, so I don’t get why all the bad reviews. I love this.

I actually quite enjoyed this one today, but I think in the future I would save it for when I’m eating sushi or another light rice based meal.

This is what I love in a green tea, a roasty almost nutty flavour with a sharpness that reminds me of flavoured seaweed snacks.

I must have steeped with the perfect water temperature – no bitter. I feel like I would have to try hard to screw this one up actually.

Not one I would buy, but my sample will last a long while I think :)

drank Vanilla Oolong by DAVIDsTEA

When I bake something that called for 1 tsp of vanilla, I usually dump in about 2 tablespoons. I can’t get enough of that boozy delicious vanilla smell when I make cookies, or anything that calls for vanilla! Yum! But if I am ever silly enough to taste it on it’s own.. blech!

This tea is like fulfilling my Vanilla fantasy! The smell is so deep and rich vanilla that it is like drinking true vanilla extract, but it tasted good! Really good! Creamy and wonderful, I love the the oolong peeks out.
My first steep was only 2 minutes, so my second for 5 was still vanilla flavoured, but much less so. Still an amazing 2nd steep, but not enough flavour to keep me going for more.

JacquelineM

I’m an inveterate double the vanilla baker too :)

drank Chocolate Chili Chai by DAVIDsTEA
1220 tasting notes

This time I made a proper latte and it is not very tasty.

It just doesn’t taste good. I’ve had to let it cool way off to taste anything other than black tea and what tastes like fake chocolate. I added sweetener and now I can actually taste the chilies finally. But it just doesn’t taste good. It’s the same reason I sometimes have problems with Read My Lips: the chocolate tastes so artificial and reminds me of chocolate flavored lip balm.

Oh well, since I’ve gotten more from both Bonnie and Krystaleyn, I will give it another try. I wonder if it might taste good as an iced latte.

Bonnie

If you don’t like it mix in some spice to cover it up to make it a better chai…like some good cinnamon and a bit of ginger maybe. Or pass it on I guess. We all don’t like some things which is ok!

momo

It tasted better the first time I made it, so I just won’t do it like a latte with the rest. I ended up adding some cinnamon and then pouring it over ice and it’s better. I don’t know what it is with this one now and Read My Lips where there’s like a fine line between the chocolate tasting good or not to me.

Kittenna

Yeah, this one isn’t my favourite. I’m not a fan of the chocolate in many DT blends for whatever reason (Chocolate Cake excepted).

drank Chocolate Chili Chai by DAVIDsTEA
1220 tasting notes

Another sample in my order, one I thought about actually purchasing and now I wish I did :( At least there’s still enough for another cup.

It’s not as spicy as I would like it to be, but then again I have a heat tolerance far above normal. It’s so chocolatey though! This is the second chocolate tea I’ve had from DAVIDsTEA and they seriously do it right. I bought Read My Lips and I haven’t tried it yet, but judging from the other comments on this tea I will probably enjoy it too.

It’s not really a chai at all, but then again it does say “southwest chai” which I guess would mean “use peppers” because there doesn’t seem to be any actual spices in here. I can definitely taste that it’s ancho pepper in here, it’s a nice mild kick but I expected a bit more from the peppercorns.

And I decided now to turn it into a latte. I probably should have measured the milk but it’s still good and makes it taste even richer. And now I get more of the peppercorns in the aftertaste!

The chocolate is a lie.

Sooooo I was hoping this would be better than the Super Chocolate and I was wrong. I’d agree with the other reviewers that it is really more like a chai or some kind of spice tea rather than a chocolate tea. Which would be good if I like chai. Which I don’t. The combination of that blasted cinnamon and the sickly sweet of something in there made this a rather unpleasant cup. Boo.

What! I think you need to try this with a cooler temperature – the cinnamon/spices won’t come out as much. Aim for around 70 C!

Thanks for the tip, I’ll try it that way!

I love the sparkly cinnamon vanilla goodness of this tea, I think i need to move it out of sipdowns. This is one I definitely need to keep in stock.

Evol Ving Ness

This is one that I really don’t understand the appeal of. Perhaps I need to try again. Am I doing something wrong?

Daddyselephant

It’s one of those that when it’s right, it’s amazingly yummy, but when it’s wrong, it’s horrible. For me, I love the cinnamon hit. I brewed it at boiling for two minutes using one “perfect” teaspoon. I also drink all of my “hot” teas lukewarm >.<

Evol Ving Ness

Hmm. Apparently, I need to play with it a bit more. Not a big cinnamon fan, so there’s that.

Evol Ving Ness

Thank you for your suggestions.

Daddyselephant

Anytime. This tea can be hit and miss and if you’re not into cinnamon, it may be a consistent miss, sadly.

Michelle

The old blend or newer one??

Daddyselephant

new, probably, but idk.

Michelle

If it had gold stars – its new. Gold balls is the older one. Which I find tasted so much better!

Oh man, this is the perfect tea for my morning. I got about three hours of sleep last night, but this tea is waking me up and making me happy and getting me ready for my day. Which is good, because I have a lot to do. But this is a wonderfully cinnamony, shimmery cup of joy. Definitely better hot than iced.

I’m sad, because this was one of the first teas I ever bought from DT, but today it is just not doing it for me. Not gonna change my rating because I probably messed up the prep, but I’m sad, I was so looking forward to this tea this morning.

This tea makes me so happy, I don’t know why I don’t reach for it more. It was one of my first teas from DT and it’s still a favorite. I had this iced in store yesterday and loved it. It was cinnamonny and tingly and tasty. So much love for this blend.

And so my weekend as a tea pimp comes to an end. My brother left with three big DavidsTea shopping bags full of tea, and about half of it came from my stash XD. It was a quick trip, but a good time was had by all and I just got the report that they made it over the border with no problems (we seriously thought he may have had more than the 4 kilo limit). We came up on Saturday and they left at 2 today (Monday). In that time, we visited six tea shops, four of them being Davids’.

Today we headed out to Davids, my local Davids. Once again we got stuck with one of the seasonal hires. We were told they were out of spearmint (which we spotted on the shelf a few minutes later), that the holiday Space Invader tin was $19.50 (we checked online, it’s $4.50), and that another DavidsTea location had the blue/dove grey tea for one set we wanted (the girl who ‘helped’ us called the other store and told us they had it. When we got to the other store, the person who talked to her said that they had said the only tea for one sets they had were the white and red new ones). So…suffice to say I was less than impressed. Kinda pissed off actually, since my brother was in from out of the country and the tea for one was for him. She was very pushy and he said she reminded him of the people who work at Teavana, if that’s any indication. If you’re going to work in a tea shop, please, know about teas and tea accessories?

I was dying for a cup of tea, so I ordered this one, mainly just to show my brother and his fiancee the awesomeness that is Glitter and Gold…so pretty! I forgot about it until it was cold and it was very tasty! I very much enjoyed this one. I hope they will too. The cinnamon is nice, but not overwhelming, and the black tea base is a treat. I recommend this one to everyone!

Edited to add: Spoke with DavidsTea and they were horrified. They managed to hunt down one of the tea for one sets, and they’re sending it to my brother. The mark of a good company isn’t that they never mess up, because no one is perfect. It’s how they handle the mess-ups and I have to say, DavidsTea has some of the best customer service I’ve ever seen.

Preparation

AliPants

Abysmal! I HATE bad service. I’m sure if you posted something about this on the DT facebook page, they would find out what happened with this chic and somehow help you out, because they seem to take customer service pretty seriously. Just sayin’!

AliPants

PS – She definitely thought you were talking about the perfect mug when you asked about the space invader tin. Not that this is an excuse.

Daddyselephant

Well, the tins were in with the new tea for one sets, but seriously? It’s just logic. I picked up the tin, asked how much it was, and she looked at the shelf and said 19.50. Erm…no? I mean, I had the tin in hand. If she didn’t know, she could have scanned it or asked. 19.50 for a tin simply doesn’t make sense, they never mark their prices up that high.

AliPants

awful!! you should have challenged her on the spot :P

Daddyselephant

lol it was so completely not worth it. Blegh.

dlonie

Just got the tea for one and 60g each of Chocolate Rocket and Black Walnut. All free, amazing company!

teaNsympathy

I was horrified when I read your original post, because I’ve always had such wonderful experiences at Davids! One (of the many) reasons I’ve strayed from Teavana is that it’s so off-putting to me how aggressive the salespeople are there. I know they have many sales-incentives for them, but it’s no excuse for how pushy (and sometimes rude) they are. I often feel like they assume I’m not an informed shopper and try to take advantage, and it infuriates me. I’m so happy to hear that they made such an unfortunate situation right!

Daddyselephant

They set it right amazingly fast. There was absolutely no sense of irritation on their part or disbelief, just an immediate apology and awesome packages sent to both me and my brother. I cannot say enough good things about DavidsTea!

This tea is a true pleasant surprise! It has a rich buttery aroma when it is dry and if it is steeped just right you can mimic this flavor in your cup. I really do enjoy this tea on its own but if you have a sweet tooth add some sweetness and some milk for a creamy treat. This will become a stable in my cupboard for sure!

I really like the buttery-smoothness of this tea. I can taste a little of the mango (delicious) and I get a little bit of a floral taste as well.
I wasn’t even going to try this one because the description sounded odd, but at the last minute at DTs when the girl asked me if there was anything else, I asked for 25g of this.
Now I wish I would have got more because it is gone.
