I signed up for a grocery/food delivery service that focuses on local produce and small business, and I’ve been enjoying it a lot so far. They’ve got a couple different kombucha brands as basket additions – none that are new to me, but some (like Club Kombucha) offer some flavours I’ve not yet tried so I decided to give those a while…
This was pretty good! Club Kombucha isn’t on the top of my list in terms of local brands (I’m very partial to Gutsy and Lao) but I’d definitely get this again. It had such an authentic clementine flavour with just enough of that yeasty kombucha “funk” to be really delicious. Nice sweet and sour kind of balance, too!
Totally forgot that I’d tried this in the past, so I added a can to my Lufa order a few weeks back. I just tried it last night and it honestly blew my mind. In a good way. Tropical flavours can be a little tricky in RTDs because they sometimes have a distinct “stank” to them. However, this was bright and juicy with such a vibrant and lively tangy passionfruit flavour. Really one of the nicest passionfruit notes I’ve had in a bottled or canned drink before. I actually just reread my old tasting note, too, and it seems like a SIGNIFICANTLY liked this more than second time around. Not sure what the difference was, but whatever it was made quite the impact.
I think I mentioned in a tasting note over the weekend that I was at a trade show on Friday. Club Kombucha was one of several different beverage companies present, and they were handing out cans of kombucha as samples. I’m a big fan of their Hops kombucha, but haven’t tried a lot of the others. This was the most interesting sounding to me, and it was actually very good! Something about it kind of gave me the same sort of citrusy/tropical beer type of flavour that I get from the Hops as well, but just much more intense. It was kind of nice to see that those distinct flavours I enjoy in the Hops flavour aren’t exclusive to that flavour.
Flavors: Beer, Citrusy, Passion Fruit, Tropical
So I bought this at the same time that I got the Raspberry kombucha flavour from this same company, and the raspberry was bad so I’ve been putting off trying this one out of concern it would share the same qualities…
However, it’s actually really nice! There’s a vinegar like tang and acidity, but it’s both milder than the raspberry and actually complimentary to the citrus notes. For a grapefruit flavour, it’s pretty orange-y tasting to me but the grapefruit comes through too. Very “Fresca style” grapefruit, but not really that sweet.
Mmmm!
Y’know, I like a kombucha with a nice vinegar-y tang to it…
But this one literally tasted like drinking straight vinegar with a squeeze of raspberry juice in it. It was so sharp and acidic, and it actually burned a bit after more than a few sips. I just couldn’t finish the can – and that’s something that very rarely happens with me. It was just so, so rough…
