Cold Brew!

I thought this might be weird as a cold brew but I wanted to try it anyway. It’s definitely not something I’ll be clamoring to recreate any time soon but it wasn’t unpleasant either. Really, really almond forward but more of a sweet marzipan kind of almond. The coriander comes out a lot too, but it’s not totally complimentary and the juxtaposition isn’t significant enough to feel like an intentional contrast focused pairing.

I could see it have being better with milk, but I don’t know that I’ll be bothered to cold brew it again just to test that theory.

The name of this tea is really hilarious and fun but in terms of actual execution of flavour I feel like there’s sort of just a lot going on here. I mostly get sweet roasted almond/amaretto notes with some hints of the citrus-y coriander but the flavour is a bit muddied and overall it was sort of just a ‘meh’ cup. Good for mindless drinking, I suppose.

Cold Brew!

Sipping on this one now and it’s actually quite enjoyable! It reminds me considerably of the cherries embedded in a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia. Not the ice cream itself (and no chocolate notes either), but those delicious candied cherries themselves.

Perfect for a surprisingly warm winter afternoon.

Steeped this one up around a week ago. Thought it was lacking the cream and general sweetness, the particular flavour of the cherry in this tea really reminded me of the sweet mellow cherries in Cherry Garcia ice cream. Only, paired with a tannic leaning and very full bodied black tea that suits the dense cherry notes well!

Another gifted from my mom, but one that I’ll need to revisit because I definitely oversteeped this cuppa. It had black cherry type notes, but was just harsh and bitter and leaned a touch medicinal as well.

Cold Brew!

Drinking this now and the fruit notes are a little bit on the more dull/flat side. Definitely not that deep and jammy currant note I seem to recall from my first experience with this tea. However, the black tea base is very full bodied and smooth and it’s making for a super refreshing cold brew even without those currant notes being super present. I also love that it’s not too sweet at all.

Cold Brew!

This cold brew also tasted strangely flat/dull to me, and the tea leaf is no where near as old as the other black tea I recently had with a similar quality. That’s a little concerning to me because it makes me feel like this is aging quite rapidly and it used to be a really nice, jammy black currant blend. This was just kinda vaguely fruity, with a lot of floral black tea base. Tasted like generic Ceylon that’s usually used as a blending base.

Cold Brew!

Something about this cold brew was just a little bit flat for me in terms of flavour. Pleasant enough mild black currant and black tea flavours, but just not a whole lot of life or dimension to them. Though, by the end of my brew the black currant had sort of build up enough on my palate to be a little more interesting/noteworthy.

In my head, when I picked this out to drink yesterday, the currant was a lot more tart. It was still a little tart but mostly this was a nice jammy black currant flavour with the pleasant body of the black tea and I thought it made for a nice, smooth afternoon cuppa that was a pretty balanced type of fruity black.

It wouldn’t be a family trip if my mom didn’t bring tea with her to give me…

This isn’t a super complex blend by any stretch, but nice simple and straight forward black currant teas aren’t the most readily available here in Canada and this was a nice one! A slight bit of tartness but mostly that more jammy currant note that makes me think of afternoon tea or more British sweets where black currant is more common.

Bet you had a good day with her.

Your mom sounds just lovely. It’s pretty great that you both enjoy spending time together.
