I am heading over to Camellia Sinensis on Friday to get some of this and Ombrelle de Papier for Roswell Strange (if anyone else would like me to pick up anything for them while I am there, feel free to let me know before then). Since I am running low on this, I decided to have a cup to see if I still really love it so I could decide if I wanted 25g, 50g, or 100g. Sipping on it now, I am thinking 100g all the way, especially because I will be moving away from the store soon :(. It tastes exactly like what the name suggests, candy and roses, and it is delicious.

Roswell Strange

I currently have a cup of this steeping, so I can tell you how much to pick up :P

Sil

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

VariaTEA

Haha, of course you do. If we didn’t have the same tea at the same time every few weeks, I would be concerned we were losing our edge.

Sil

Oooor…order less so you’re closer to free shipping threshold when you get here and place joint orders with us! Hahahaha

VariaTEA

It is around the corner from me so no shipping, just shopping and the potential for tasty treats. Plus I can get smaller amounts if I go in. I can also hand deliver teas to you when I come home thus shipping for you either :P

VariaTEA

thus no shipping for you

Roswell Strange

Ok, I’m thinking 50g. It’s very “yum” but not very, very “yum” ;)

VariaTEA

Haha, np. 50g it is and 25g of Ombrelle, right?

Roswell Strange

Yes please :)

Happy Valentines Day to all!! I am excited to have a day of festively themed teas starting with this one. Candy and roses, the gifts of choice for many today but honestly I think I prefer the tea – less calories than candy and not as much work as roses.

This tea is the perfect combination of candy sweetness and rose florals. Plus it is hot and comforting on this cold snowy day.

Flavors: Flowers

Preparation

Gotta love coming upstairs to the water at the perfect temperature. Yay for the “keep warm” option.

As for this tea, candy and roses is definitely an apt description and it is delicious.

Keep warm sounds amazing.

VariaTEA

t is pretty awesome.

Every time I hear about this wondrous kettle the battle erupts in my head… “Just go and get it, live the life” says the right side of my brain… “but you have perfectly good and still working water thermometer with built in alarm” says the logical left. “it’s not the same thing!” insists the right…. I wonder how long I can hold off… lol

VariaTEA

I drink a lot of tea daily and forever I thought a kettle was a waste of money because I had a kettle that boiled water. However, I would ignore most of the teas that didn’t steep at boiling. I have only had it a day and I think it is one of the best purchases I made.

I was craving this prior to going to Florida but I stupidly left it behind. Then I returned from Florida and couldn’t taste things. However, today I have finally be able to taste some things so I decided to have a cup.

Just like the last, it is sweet and delicious. A blend with “rose” right in the name scares me because florals can easily taste perfume-y but there is none of that here. This is a cup of liquified candy and I am so glad my roommate picked it out for me. Yum!!

Second tea from my Hanukkah present from my roommate and so far she is two for two! This tea smells like a candy and tastes like one too. I can’t quite put my finger on which candy but it is a delicious cherry hard candy. Luckily, it manages to avoid tasting like cough syrup so it is a delightfully sweet hard candy in a cup with some hints of floral to round out the flavors.

Originally I planned to cold brew Melon Oolong but then realized I had done that before. I hadn’t cold brewed this though. Personally, I think I prefer it hot though its a lot of the same made either way. I’d cold brew this again but with the temperature dropping, I probably won’t do that for a while.

Sipdown (389)

I finished this last night while enjoying an amazing Banana Cream Pie Eclair. It was soooo good…the tea and the eclair. This is so soft and fruity and yet stands apart from the other fruit teas. Probably because this one lacks the hibiscus and apple that so many other fruity teas have been filled with lately. Thanks for the share, Evol Ving Ness.

Sil stopped by today bringing with her teas from herself and Evol Ving Ness. A box full of goodies. As I added them to my cupboard (something I am not quite done yet as a few seem to not be listed on steepster) I noticed there were teas that sounded really interesting, teas that sounded a little scary (sneaky pu’erh), and some old favorites that I would get a chance to revisit.

This falls into the latter category. It is a tea I originally tried when living in Montreal. My roommate at the time got me Camellia Sinensis blends as a channukah present and this was the one we tried first.

It tastes exactly as I remember, which means it is delicious. It’s light but so flavorful. The strawberry is standing out in this cup and has a candy-like sweetness thanks to the pineapple (I am assuming). It is really lovely and has such a well rounded fruit flavor. I honestly didn’t realize I missed this until trying it again. Alas, every time I look at Camellia Sinensis’ site, I am saddened by the lack of Des Roses et Des Bonbons and that dissaudes me from placing an order.

Nonetheless, thank you Evol Ving Ness for the chance to revisit this one. I have enough leaf for another cup and I certainly will be savoring it.

Sil

yay!

Evol Ving Ness

Delighted that this one is bringing you tea JOY! Yay!

Ftr, people, the puerh scary things are not from me :)
I may be guilty of the scary chai teas though. Ahem.

So pleased that you’ve gotten the teas and the steeping can commence. Thank you, Sil!

Evol Ving Ness

And yeah, it happens that I include teas in swaps that I am opening for the first time. At least, swapping reminds me that I need to get busy.

Evol Ving Ness

I am so looking forward to your reviews!

Made this iced and I was quite disappointed. All the beautiful fruit notes were drowned out by a base that was too floral. I never had a problem in the hot brew so if I get more of this I would certainly stick to that method. 163.

I was at Camellia Sinensis earlier today with a friend and so she was intrigued by the company and wanted to try their teas. This is one that appealed to her so I steeped it up for us to share. It is fruity and sweet and amazing for a Spring sort of feel, however, the more I drink it, the more I feel as though it is a little generic. Yet, I keep going back to it and for that reason, it will probably remain stocked. Though I am dropping the rating a bit from my original 85.

This is such a light and fruity tea that it is always such a pleasure to drink. On top of that, it smells amazing. This will probably be a favorite as the weather warms up as it is just so fresh tasting that it really seems like a Spring tea.

I really like this tea but I never make it because I am too impatient to wait for the water to cool. Now I have my awesome new kettle so I figured it was as good a time as any to have some whites.

This is fruity and smooth with just a hint of floral. Super delicious. MMMmmm…

I got back last night from visiting my family late so my roommate has already gone to sleep. Today when we finally saw each other she presented me with my Hanukkah present – FOUR NEW CAMELLIA SINENSIS TEAS!!! They all smelled so fruity and delicious and I could not wait to test them out. So I brewed up this tea for the both of us to try. It is really good. It is not as delicate as most teas are but still a light, citrus-y and fruity tea. Delicious!!

awesome gift!

My stash has now grown by 200 g and I am very excited! She did tell me if there were any I did not like, she would not be offended if I swapped them but I am sure they will all be tasty.

OMGsrsly

What a delightful surprise for you. :)

Steeping this sample from Dexter on my desk today, which means hotter water and shorter steeps.

Mmm. This is tasty. Not sure how to describe it really, quite fruity. Maybe cherry wood. Some citrus. Malt.

Yep, I still like this one. Thanks so much for the sample! :)

This tea is from Dexter3657. Thanks! :)

This is so good. It actually survived in my travel mug during my winter walk really well. It still had nice flavour, and isn’t too strong with a 2 minute steep.

I have to try it in a ceramic mug instead of a stainless travel mug, but so far it’s on my list of “teas to buy”!

IMHO Camellia has really nice quality straight teas, you just need to pick the ones to suit your tastes. Happy that you enjoyed this one.

OMGsrsly

Now I’m looking at their website, getting drawn in by all the pretty pictures. :)

Dexter

(I bought a beautiful yixing teapot from them too….)

Sil

so many places to order from…so little time and money for all of them haha

drank Earl Grey Cream by Camellia Sinensis

From the Great Canadian TTB.

I am not sure if this was meant to be. I could not, for the life of me, find this tea on steepster, I also had trouble finding it on the Camellia Sinensis website. So I added it. So this note might be in the wrong place. I am not sure what’s going on at the moment. Its supposed to blizzard today, it hasn’t started storming yet, but my boss called me and told me to just stay home today so I don’t get storm stayed anywhere. So now I am a bit out of sorts because I am ready to go but no where to go. I don’t like it when my schedule it all messed up. HA. I shouldn’t be complaining, its basically a paid day to stay home and drink tea all day :D

This tea smells strongly of vanilla. The brewed tea is a light black base, but the bergamot is moderately strong. There is definitely a strong caramel and vanilla flavour. As it cools, the caramel is getting quite bitter. But while hot, it was super delicious.

I remember many a morning where my wife would stand between me and the door and beg me not to go. My boss was not as concerned with the safety of his employees as yours. Stay warm, safe, and full of tea.

Lala

Thanks KS. Because I sometimes have to travel for work, one of the conditions in my contract is if the roads are bad I do not have to go and I still get paid for a “snow day”, if I would get storm stayed my work would pay for a hotel. My bosses are awesome that they are concerned about me travelling. I am the type of person that will always try to go though, so I think my boss woke up this early morning just to text me not to go. The weather people have been forecasting a blizzard for about 4 days now. (Because I didn’t go to work, it probably won’t happen though).

mrs.stenhouse12

Lucky! I am at work..not sure how I will get home, it’s snowing and blowing and nasty here..supposed to get up to 30 cm of snow! :( if it’s coming your way, watch out!

tigress_al

wow, that is awesome that you have such a considerate boss!

drank Chaperon Konge by Camellia Sinensis

Had some of this last night and continuing with it this morning. Thanks MissB for the sample.
There isn’t much info about the tea, but it reminds me of Bluebird’s Raspberry Beret. For me there is quite a bit of rooibos coming though. It’s really fruity, and I’m thinking creamy raspberry. I think it’s nicely balanced, a little sweet a little tart. It’s nice. Thanks MissB.

MissB

Wow, I seem to be missing a lot of feeds these past few days. Sorry about that!

I struggled to find anything about this tea when I got it. CS has taken it off their site, so I ended up calling them. It’s discontinued, and that’s pretty much all they told me. I even asked the person who gave it to me as a gift what the deal was, and have yet to hear back. So… I had pretty much the same experience. It’s pleasant, a bit rooibos-y, and nice to use as a blend.

2021 sipdown no. 56

This one is difficult to describe. It has a Taiwanese black sweetness to it, but cut through with almost an oolong floral. I keep flip flopping on whether or not I actually enjoy it. I think I ultimately enjoy other straight black teas over this one.

I’m having a similar experience this morning with a Keemun that I somewhat like but seems too floral…

How odd! Each sip I felt something different haha — I like you, I like you not. :P

Mmm this is quite tasty. More to come.

Thanks Dexter3657. I love that you sent me so many black teas I haven’t tried :)

Sorta sipdown as the rest of this is being passed along. It is nice but I really don’t reach for it enough so hopefully it will find love somewhere else. As for this cup? The base is smooth and the peony is the prominent flavor with just a hint of lychee sweetness. At the end of the day, I really just prefer black teas when I make caffeinated cups.

I had my second cup of this today because a friend came over and said she wanted something not too sweet and something with roses. I do not have many floral teas as I find they can get quite perfume-y but I recommended this. Though it is not roses, it does have a similar floral taste to it. And the lychee has a nice sweetness but it is in no way cloying.

A plus – this tea steeps really nicely a second time around.

drank Matcha Uji by Camellia Sinensis
6444 tasting notes

My roommate picked some of this up yesterday when we went to Camellia Sinensis. There were many matchas to pick from but the salesman recommended this as a casual matcha for everyday drinking. Though we drank the other teas she purchased yesterday, this one went into the fridge to have today as my roommate worried about the caffeine content.

Today when we were making breakfast, she put a cup of this in my hand. This is the first time I tried flavorless matcha and tbh I did not hate it. Looking into the cup, it had a vibrant dark green color and so I was definitely expecting the vegetal taste that I got. However, what I was not expecting was the creaminess that came along with it. All in all, this was not a bad cup of tea and I definitely enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

yyz

How fun to have someone to share teas with who are entering into it with such different tastes. What a nice way to have an expanded selection and a way to test your tolerances!

VariaTEA

It definitely keeps things interesting and it’s nice because our apartment is both a plain tea lover’s paradise thanks to her stash and a flavored tea lover’s feast thanks to mine.

I’ve been buying chai from almost every company I’ve ordered from. I keep searching for that illusive “perfect” chai. I’m spending today drinking chai. I’m hoping to try all the ones I have and compare them to each other. I’m not going to rate them until the end, so that they end up in the correct order.
I’ve started with a pretty good one. I quite like this, I think the spices are well balanced but it’s a bit too spicy for me. Either needs less leaf or more black tea added. All in all I’m off to a good start. I think this will end up in the mid 80s
