drank Pineapple and Peach by Bonomelli
437 tasting notes

Once again the smell of this tea is almost bang on. Both the peach and pineapple are present. The peach smells a little like Tim Horton’s peach drink and the pineapple is juicy and slightly floral in scent. On the tongue the pineapple is apparent at first sip with a sweet, juicy, slightly floral tone. At times it references chamomile even though chamomile is not an ingredient. The peach is present behind it. It is a warm, cooked peach kind of flavour, that is given just a hint of tartness by the hibiscus in the blend. Once again this ingredient is used to enhance rather than overwhelm the flavour. I’ve quite enjoyed this series of fruit teas. They are quite well done and with only 10 bags to a box, I don’t feel guilty having a few of them in my cupboard.

This tea is kind of interesting in the brewed leaf I smell the apple, and grape with a touch of strawberry, while I taste apple, grape, hibiscus, elderberry and strawberry, with the liquorice underneath making it slightly spicy and sweet. I was craving something tart, and while this is it isn’t overly so, it does deliver. It has three of the vilians of the tea justice league, hibiscus, rosehip, and liquorice, but here they are well used especially since I steeped it more than three minutes. I love how the ingredients work together to create a purple grape colour as well!

The blend sounds interesting. See, I could totally handle hibiscus if it didn’t overpower everything else. But every time I have it, it takes everything away…The sweetness of licorice must help tone down the tartness of hibiscus and rosehip, good idea to put them together.

It is, the liquorice and the apple really help to temper the tart ingredients and they’ve managed to keep the liquorice to a point where it doesn’t overpower as well. It’s pretty well done.

drank Papaya and Orange by Bonomelli

Despite all the potentially tart ingredients included, this tea smells fantastic. It smells like the small dark rounder papayas that have the darker orange flesh and that taste sweeter, with just a tinge of orange. The colour of the tea even mimics the reddish orange colour of the papaya flesh.

Flavour wise, the first sip does betray the hibiscus but after that it settles down into a pleasant blend of herb and fruit. The papaya is tempered by a note that reminds me of chamomile, though there is no chamomile on the ingredients list, this is followed by a slightly bitter zest of orange ( like Orangina), that is sweetened by liquorice( which is really just a sweet note). I found the tea pleasant and it will probably make a nice cold brew, but the hibiscus is present enough that if you are sensitive it you may not enjoy the tea. However it is very affordable and comes in small 10 bag boxes that makes it suited to us that like diversity, and is definitely worth the risk of trying it. Papaya and Orange do make a very tasty combination.

I last had this a decade ago, and am pleased to find it as enjoyable now as it was then. We went out to a very awkward family dinner tonight, but at least the food was good. I ordered chamomile tea. Delightfully, that turned out to be this instead of something generic! The teabag contents are about evenly split between whole flowers and the broken-up leaves that often characterize cheaper chamomile teas. The flavor is sweet apple and honey goodness. I almost ordered a second cup!

Sipdown! Sadly, I oversteeped my very last cup of this. I forgot about it for 10+ minutes and it got bitter. Still drinkable, but bitter is not a flavor I want in a chamomile tea. The bitterness mellowed out as the tea cooled though. Tasty and convenient, but not a restock because the packaging is weird (the teabags are just loose in a cardboard box).

A family acquaintance learned of my love for tea and brought me a box of this.

I’m not hugely fond of the fact that the teabags are just loose in the box. No individual wrappers, no sealed foil bag holding all of them. Just… kinda chillin out in the cardboard box. The box came shrink-wrapped, so I’m not concerned about contamination before it got to me. But I don’t like the risk of dust and whatnot getting in, and I don’t like that the chamomile is so exposed to the air. Ah well, all the more reason to drink this up quickly!

This is actually a quite lovely tea. The chamomile has a sweetness to it that one doesn’t always find. Almost apple-y, but not at all tart. Just smooth and soothing. This one won’t be hard to finish off.

Taste wise, I’d give it the full 100. I had to take off some points due to packaging. It has a full bodied aroma and taste, and is a very decent chamomile tea. However, it is not a loose tea nor does it come in individual wrapped. My family usually go by chamomile tea quite fast, but it attracted bugs before we even get done with it. Maybe due to it’s sweet, apple like aroma.

This tea brews better than most.. and I’ve tried a lot! I’ve been drinking herbal teas for years and of all the Camomile teas, this brand is the only one that brews strong enough to get the full flavour of the herbs. It also brews clear and darker than any other Camomile tea. I’ve grew up on Bonomelli Camomilla and each sip reminds me of my Nonni (grandparents) and the many evenings of sickness that only Camomile can remedy.

You will never drink north american brand Camomile tea again!
