drank Jin Jun Mei by Aroma Tea House
25 tasting notes

20g tea
yixing

5s
Oily mouthfeel
Shellfish
Smells of dry, fresh forest & something almost flowery sweet

10s
Disappeared mouthfeel
Tea is strong, warmth travelling noticeably all the way to the stomach
and sitting there (where is the qi? is it there?)

20s
Return of the oily mouthfeel
The sweet note in the smell is that of sweet rice
Which also seems to be the flavour of the very light huigan
The qi is up the back of the spinal cord, to the base of the brain, & hovers above that like a pillow of air or earmuffs around back of the head and ears

45s
Seaweed and sweetest rice

1m
Delicious sweet rice
More enjoyable mouthfeel: full without being oily

2m
I could drink this tea all day

4m 6m overnight

So so good. Throat is getting much better, nose is still a little stuffed but I wanted something other than strong black tea. Went for a big pot of this tea…wow I can actually taste and sort of smell the “roasted” oolong notes. Although my tealog doesn’t show it this is a teas that I drink all the time. I bumped the rating up because of the three wuyi rock teas I have tried so far this is the most fragrant and is my favourite (although all three are very nice).

I went to the Aroma Tea House to pick up my “Monkey Picked” Tieguanyin and got treated to an awesome tea tasting there with this Wu Yi Rock Tea! I have had a sample of this type of tea from a friend before and mentioned that I was interested in getting some to try. She made the tea ’’Gongfu" style in a gaiwan? I think (forgive my lack of tea knowledge—I am still learning!) We (another customer and I) tasted three steepings of the tea! I walked out with 100g of each tea! Thank goodness another customer was waiting otherwise I might of ended up with more teas!!
This Wu Yi Rock tea has a lovely roasted, smokey flavour and aroma.

Tasted my new batch of this last evening. First impression a little smokey…but not quite as fragrant as the last batch I bought (a couple of years ago) but flavour is still very nice! Leaves unfurled to full huge leaves. Mmm a darker oolong to go with the greener ones I got as gifts from family going on trips to China / HK :)

I love many different types of oolongs. This was the favourite of the three types I had bought from this tea shop in Vancouver a while back. The shop was recommended to me by a coworker who told me the owners that run this shop have a great selection of Chinese type teas and are very knowledgable and fair. The lady there spent a good half hour explaining the different teas to my friend and I (two tea novices) and helped us select some teas based on what we said we liked or wanted to try. I have just finished the last of this last night so I think a visit to this store is in order!
