Sipdown (350)
So I was looking at my tea collection and noticed this tiny tin was on its side, open, and spilling out everywhere. I took that as a sign that the tea was yelling “DRINK ME!” so I used the 1 perfect teaspoon of leaf left and brewed up a mug. I also brewed another tea alongside this which I promptly knocked over, causing a huge waterfall and fear for all the appliances and the power bar in the path of the running liquid which I am telling you because it means this tea cooled a fair bit before I got to drink it. Also, its quite old and was exposed to air and light for who knows how long (up to a week, possibly) so this review probably isn’t the best indication of the actual flavor of the tea.
Anyways, the tea is actually not bad today. Seems I had this once before and found the base tea overpowering. Today I am getting more vanilla. Vanilla and something floral. All on a bed of dryness. It’s better than I remember if I am being honest, thanks to that vanilla component, but still not great. This is a sipdown I am totally fine with having.
When I was driving home from work I started craving a frappucino? Why? I have no idea since I don’t actually drink them all that often but twas the case. However, I can’t exactly drink frappucinos right now since I am pretty sure they have a fair amount of fat in them and given I have yet to remove my gallbladder, I don’t want to anger the stones. So when I got home I decided to make more own cold, sweet, and creamy drink: a tea smoothie.
I used this tea (obviously), skim milk, fat free chocolate pudding, frozen strawberries and bananas, and a spoonful of Kitten and the Bear’s Chocolate & Strawberry Jam. The end result is mediocre tbh and I am blaming the tea.
This tea is heavy, if that makes any sense. I suppose a denser tea does more accurately reflect sticky toffee pudding but rather than being a sweet and dense treat, it is mostly just dense and I want to say…dark. I feel like I am making no sense but this tea is like a flavor void. The other, lighter ingredients, are trying their damnedest to pull this tea out of its funk but the weight of its toffee is pulling everything down with it.
All in all, the flavor of this tea is just not what I was looking for. Probably for the best though since it is a bit pricey.
Damn, too bad about the mediocrity because all those ingredients sound like it would result in fantastic beverage. I get the odd crying for a frappe every once in a while too despite not being a huge fan. So weird.
When I went to the Annvita tea room a while back, I picked up two teas…this and a Rhubarb & Cream Tea. Alas, the tins they were in were unmarked so I sorta forgot which was which. I sniffed them but oddly enough that didn’t reveal which was which so I looked at the tea and though I was pretty sure this was the Sticky Toffee Pudding based on the large pieces of what looked like toffee, I decided to do a taste test to make sure. Now that I have tried it, I can say without a doubt this is a toffee tea. A very sweet toffee tea with just a hint of date flavor to reflect the “pudding” element.
