Ahhh pancake breakfast….we have been apart far too long.
I have 3 exams in the next 2 days, one of which for a class I have been ignoring…I mean it covers landforms and I can see the slides from home. When one slide says rocks are solid I know I am not making a huge error in staying home.
So, while re-reading everything about rocks and volcanos and the earth’s layers and watching hockey, I decided I’d return to dear beloved Pancake Breakfast, especially given its recent permanent status. My mom got me a bag for Christmas so I was pretty well stocked, but now there are no worries!
Still delicious as ever, and as always, making me want pancakes to eat too. This tea is maple, buttery, cakey goodness.
oh. my. god. It’s like a cup of pancakes. The liquor smells even better than the leaves (and believe me I have spent many times just putting my nose into the bag of this)! Tastes like real maple, and then the buttery finish is absolutely amazing. Nothing about it even tastes artificial, I love it.
Almost as good as eating real pancakes, maybe. Maybe it’s a lot better because I always have water on hand, and there’s no chance of burning this in a pan!
Preparation
The leaves have a light spicy sweet aroma that intrigues me. Because the spice is one of the first to catch, I suspect the s’mores taste might get overwhelmed.
And I was right, as the spicy chai flavor is above all the taste in this blend. It is not a bad flavor, a sweet and creamy variation with a smoky touch.
The marshmallow and others are subtle, but you catch them in different sips, as the spice still does overwhelm.
Nonetheless, for chai lovers, this is a great variation.
Preparation
Finally received my second order of this scrumptious tea, doubled the amount I ordered the first time.
This tea is just heaven in colder weather, snow and rain during the early winter season. The coconut is especially prolific in both steeps, giving me thoughts of tropical weather, if it so should suddenly come around and bump this ugly wet winter weather away.
Preparation
This is the absolute last of the leaves in my cupboard… at least until my new order comes in, then I’ll have twice as much.
Made it extra strong with more than one teaspoon of leaves, strong black tea taste over the coconut and cream pie, yet still the aroma is coconut cream pie, and still delicious.
Preparation
The creamy flavor of pie has come into its own now that it has been steeped more in a more open space, I feel the taste has time to breathe as it is cooling, and stays consistent throughout the glass.
Something special I might add, as I finish the first cup, the last few sips reward me with a sweet and buttery flavor.
This tea is fantastic!
Preparation
I’m really liking steeping this tea in a smaller cup, the creamy flavor is stronger and lasts longer, and I think because it has more room to breathe, the coconut is brighter as well.
I find I am drinking this a lot, so I really should buy more of this amazing blend.
Preparation
Steeped in a smaller cup, I usually steep in my Teavana 16oz travel tumbler but it shattered so I am forced to make smaller amounts in smaller equipment until my goto is replaced.
Smaller seems to bring out more of the creamy flavor of this tea, and also seems to blend the subtle coconut really well.
I’m kind of wanting to make this into a latte with whipped cream to see how it would taste.
Preparation
When we had the tea bar, we sold this one a lot as an iced tea latte. It’s REALLY good that way. I’m glad you are enjoying our teas.
The aroma right when you open the bag is mind-blowingly delicious coconut, I will instantly like this.
The first few sips give me that light creamy pie taste with a subtle flavor of coconut, although I would prefer more coconut than pie.
Nonetheless, this is a great tea for any time of day, as it is light and delicious.
Preparation
Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me a bit of this tea. I am so happy to be able to try it!
This is a delightful chai! Not as robust as some of 52Teas other chai blends, but, it more than makes up for it in sweet, creamy vanilla bean-y and cheesecake-y flavor! The cheesecake is a little more withdrawn than the vanilla flavor, but I can taste a very subtle tangy note.
Frank… if you’re reading this (and I know you are!) You should DEFINITELY include this in the 12 Days of Christmas package this year. :)
Thank you, long lost Ashley package, for this sample!!
I’ll admit I didn’t drink it straight… check out this post to see what I did with it. Vodka = yum!

52teas 12 Days of Christmas Sampler 2011 – Day 5
Woot! I love this tea! I actually have 1.5 pouches of it in my cupboard, so I’m just going to add this sample to that stock. Since it’s a black tea, I often make it first thing in the morning. It’s a little late to drink it right now.
But all you other Steepsterites with this sampler are lucky ducks! This is one of the most fantastic teas Frank has ever blended! Enjoy it while it lasts, which definitely won’t be long!
My tip to get the most pancake out of this blend is steeping it for a short period of time and adding sweetener (and a little skim milk if you like it).
Preparation
Wow! This is so interesting! I’ve never tasted anything like it before (and yes, I have had and love pancakes).
I definitely get the correlation to pancakes. There’s a buttery bread taste to the tea, which I guess is what I find so interesting. It’s strange to drink tea and taste buttered bread. And as Jenn mentioned in her review, this tea is much more complex than expected. It’s really amazing!
The aroma of the dry leaves has a very strong maple scent, but unfortunately this doesn’t translate into the brewed tea as much as I would like. It’s also quite tannic, so I added some milk.
Other tea drinkers here on Steepster seem to have no problem picking out the maple notes, so maybe it’s just me. Also, I tend to think of maple syrup as the sugar-loaded Aunt Jemima kind. Perhaps others are more accustomed to pure maple syrups, which this blend might be more representative of. I’ll add a little sweetener the next time I brew it and see if that helps me recognize the maple notes better.
It’s definitely a very good tea, and I’m sure no one else but 52teas could create such a unique, dare I say magical, blend! It’s early, so please excuse my criticism. Overall, I think this tea is fantastic! I will happily add it to my morning routine.
With over 50 tasting notes, fantastic reviews, and most ratings in the high 90s with quite a few 100s, I really hope this makes it into the permanent collection!
Preparation
Yes, I love this tea. It’s actually my first time trying any kind of honeybush. The smell is awesome. Smells like the sweetest bananas…very perfumery, when they are so ripe that they are ready to make bread with.
The flavor is alive..the taste of real, sweet bananas.
I didn’t add any sweetener. I thought I was going to, but it didn’t need it….although, maybe next time I will add some sugar and (soy) milk to experiment a little
This is from the new 52teas owned by Anne. I was so happy she chose to re-blend this tea from Frank’s recipe! This was one of my all-time favorite V.I.T.s from back in the day. Looking over my notes, this tea has been with me through some pretty memorable experiences, like getting engaged as well as having the honor of being my first 52teas blend ever. I remember the sad day that I finished the pouch. Sigh.
Well, rejoice! This tea has been reborn! It’s delightfully maple-y with a strong Tie Guan Yin flavor. Wow. I have missed you so much, glorious tea! I don’t get much creaminess and no real cheesecake to speak of. But maple syrup is front and center with its thick sweetness and the base is floral, green, and lovely. This will remain one of my all time favorites, even if it is a bit different from how I remember. It’s still delicious and that’s all that matters! Raising the rating from 84 to 86.
Flavors: Floral, Green, Maple Syrup
everyone seems to love this, I might need to try it someday.
Yes, you really need to try it! : )
