drank Coffee Pu'erh by DAVIDsTEA
33 tasting notes

I was a little scared to try Pu’erh due to coming across many that describe a fish like odor and taste to it. But the earthy, dirt taste that some described intrigued me to get some.
I am not sure why I chose this one for my first pu’erh but I was on DavidsTea for the first time and this one caught my eye. I am thinking due to the coffee flavoring and the idea of having another nice breakfast tea.
The tea comes in a nice mylar resealable pouch. The tea is very dark with whole coffee beans in it. The aroma smelled of chocolate and almonds. Not the strong fake amaretto liquor flavoring but like roasted almonds. To my delight there was no fish smell!
This tea brews up nice a dark, like a cup of coffee. I added cream and sugar to it. I should of tried it straight but that is how I drink my coffee mostly and I wanted it like my coffee.
You know how you tip up the hot tea and the steamy aroma fills your mouth and that is your first taste? That was where I got a faint taste of very fresh sushi, a mix of extremely fresh tuna and mild seaweed. Not really strong but it was there and it was so quick I might not have noticed if I had never read any reviews on pu’erh. Once the tea liquor was on my tongue I tasted creamy chocolate, then almond and then caramel. Some how I missed any coffee flavor though. The aftertaste was very earthy, I am not sure I would describe it as tasting like dirt but the taste was very pleasant, not bitter. With subsequent sips the sushi taste goes away, still no coffee taste. This tea did dry my mouth out a little after each sip.
Overall pretty good, but I don’t think I would purchase it again.

I’ve read from others that Davidtea’s pu’erh is often fishy, maybe another company would have one you’d like :)

Chelle

I will definitely try some more pu’erh. I loved the earthy, robust flavor. I think I just leave coffee as coffee and tea as tea!

Shmiracles

i will agree, drink more puerh OTHER than davidstea if you can. cuz if you liked this one you are gonna super love those. i swear they tasted like entirely different teas to me.
i do like their chocolate orange puerh though. i bought a lot of that one. :)

ohfancythat

Ditto to the chocolate orange :)

drank Bollywood Chai by DAVIDsTEA
33 tasting notes

Mmmmmm. Warm and spicy with a bit of pepperiness. The tea is so beautiful to look at in the tin. I picked out one if the pink candied fennel seeds and chewed it, yum! I steeped it as suggested on the package. The liquor was very light for many chais I have tried that have a black tea base. I added milk and a very small amount of honey. The flavor is very nice and complex although a tad bit weak. I could taste the cardamom, cinnamon, pepper and ginger. I don’t like strong ginger but in this chai the ginger balance was to my liking, just enough to spice it up. The vanilla gave it a nice creaminess, I really enjoy vanilla notes in chai.
I am really happy I bought 100 g of this tea. Next time I will use a bit more tea to strengthen the favors more. I really enjoyed my first purchase from DavidsTea and I am looking forward to trying my other selections.

TeaLady441

That sounds really good! I hope you enjoy sampling DavidsTea, but one word of advice: don’t buy 100g of everything! A lot of people here did that once they got started into loose leaf tea, and then you might have way too much of a tea that you’re just sorta into. I’m still trying to drink “The Skinny” (it’s good, but not one I want often), and a few others. If you’re able to actually go to the store, it’s much cheaper/better to buy 10-30g of all the ones you’re interested in to see what you like. If you’re not close enough, then… just be careful? Maybe try swapping for samples of DavidsTea?

(They are ALL over Canada. I just assume they are all over the US too, but I realise they’re still expanding that way).

ohfancythat

Ditto that :)

Chelle

Yes! you are very right. No DavidsTea even remotely in my area. Actually, that is the only one I bought 100 grams of. I was aiming for free shipping, just added it on for the free tin too. My boyfriend really loves chai so I wasn’t too scared to get a little more.

Dreamy, creamy, caramel goodness!
Can one become addict after drinking this once? I think I am!
I just got this in the mail today and had to open the bag for a look. This wonderful caramel and butterscotch aroma blew me away. The Matchaccino mix is also such a beautiful vibrant green. I closed the bag back up because my boyfriend was working on a project and I wanted to wait till he was done to make us both a frappaccino. I guess I must have inhaled some of the fine powder and it coated my nostrils because the caramel goodness followed me everywhere!
Finally he finished his project and I pulled out the blender. I poured in 8 oz. of cold lactose free milk, 6 ice cubes, and a heaping scoop (came with the matcha) of the matchaccino powder. Then, I blended it smooth and poured it into two short glasses.
Boy, have I been missing out on something wonderful my whole life! My one and only time trying matcha was last week getting the green tea frappe at Starbucks in anticipation for my Red Leaf order. Ummmmmmm, I will never drink the Starbucks version again. The Red Leaf blows them away in flavor immensely and does not put you into sugar shock.
The caramel flavoring is very natural tasting, just like eating a SugarDaddy pop. I chose the robust flavoring. The matcha is very mild, earthly, like fine green grass with absolutely no bitterness. I chose the imperial grade matcha. I know that grade maybe overkill for lattès and frappès but I was really afraid of getting a bitter matcha that might turn me away from matcha all together due to really never having it before. I feel much more brave now to branch out on more grades due to the absolute best experience I had drinking it today.
I can’t wait to try more flavors from Red Leaf! I have a traditional matcha set with plain matcha on its way and I am now even more eager to try.
Somehow, I am going to have to fit drinking this caramel goodness in daily. I actually feel more energetic and high spirited and I am attributing to the matchaccino!
You can get this scrumptious caramel Matchaccino at Red Leaf Tea here:

Also, my boyfriend’s response was “I could drink this. Much better than all these other girl teas you have been making me try.” I have been having him try all my new teas! What a good sport.

Sil

Haha awesome “girl teas”

Chelle

Lol. Yah, I am always shoving a tea cup in his face saying “Try this! It’s so yummy.”

I drank this as a cold brew and didn’t enjoy it near as much as hot. Weird, I would have thought opposite due to the melon.

First off this was my first guayusa. I researched it a little and was pleased to learn of it’s caffeine nature being a little more gentle than coffee but providing high alertness and energy.
I know I remember reading it was a vanilla mint tea when I purchased it but I had forgotten and the sweet minty aroma was a nice surprise! At first I taste the mint then the vanilla comes to play and adds a wonderful creaminess. The guayusa base has a nice earthiness that is not overpowering. I think I taste the lavender but I can’t be sure since I have never tried a lavender tea or guayusa before.
I really like the combination of flavors here and although I do enjoy freshly roasted and ground coffee many mornings, The Killer’s Vanilla will be replacing coffee many mornings!
Thanks Stacy for this “killer” tisane!

I opened up this cute little Butiki bag and this heavenly aroma of sweet cantaloupe made me smile and keep sniffing!
I peeked into the bag and saw a lovely, pale yellow spray of flowers and had to get a better look. I had the brief image of myself peering into the bag and seeing a whole vine of ripened cantaloupes (you know Hermione’s bag of holding on Harry Potter? I was sure this Butiki tea bag had the same spell). I measured out my tea for my mug and placed it on a little saucer to admire. The dried tea is beautiful with the tiny yellow flowers and long curled white tea leaves.
While the tea was steeping I looked into the tea bag again for a garden of cantaloupes. The smell was exactly like slicing into a fresh cantaloupe, no artificial off smell at all. The aroma had a creaminess too it as well but I couldn’t say it was vanilla or milky but I am new at discovering the nuances of tea.
My fist sip I tasted the cantaloupe with a bit of cucumber and a nice floral sweetness, most likely from the flower sprays and the Baui Mu Dan. This is a mug of paradise if I ever tasted one. The more I sipped the more melon and creaminess I tasted. The cucumber layer disappeared.
I took my tea leaves and put them in a jar for an overnight cold brew. I can’t wait to try it tomorrow.

drank Peppermint Patty by Butiki Teas
33 tasting notes

I received a sample of Peppermint Patty today with my Butiki Teas order. I do enjoy a nice mint tea or herbal and was excited to try this one. The aroma is definitely peppermint but toned down with a sweet, creamy chocolate. I steeped it per instructions on the sample bag. I added a small amount of sugar as recommended in the tea description. At the first sip while the tisane was still very hot I mostly tasted peppermint with a non-descript herbal taste and a hint of chocolate. As the tea cools the chocolate becomes more prominent and creamy but still not shouting this is a chocolate tea. The peppermint and chocolate are balanced perfectly to my taste! I really like the fact that there are mini chocolate chips in the mix and not a dusting of cocoa powder. I really enjoyed this sample and am sad that I didn’t purchase any this order. I am definitely going to be including this with my next order. I need a few delicious non-caffinated herbal tisanes for evening relaxation.
