85 Tasting Notes

Bought a box of the prebagged tea around Christmas time. Thought it would be a great addition to my winter months collection of warm me up teas. I made a cup of hot brew the next day and nearly cried when I tried to swallow down the first sip. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and resisted the urge to dump the glass, but even the fourth sip was revolting.

I had hoped for a lovely winter mint tea, instead all I could taste was the ginger. Fortunately my oldest daughter loves the taste and has taken over ownership of this box of teas that I would ultimately toss in the trash.

drank Goji Green by DAVIDsTEA
85 tasting notes

Brewed this one hot this morning, because I wanted something warm to drink. I needed a bit of a pick me up and green teas always seem to do this for me. I loved the fruity scent of the dried mix and was very excited to try it (I almost didn’t want to wait the brew time lol). It brews a lovely red colour, which started out as light pink while it steeped and mixed together.

The flavour was delightful, sweet, fruity, and floral. The aroma of the brewed tea was warm and welcoming as well. My oldest only gave it a sniff (she is not overly keen on hot teas). The taste was amazing as well, it reminded me of sweet berries (which I am assuming it was the goji berries that brought out this flavour), with a hint of tart.

The only downside was the particulate left at the bottom of my cup that was able to escape through the infuser on my nordic mug, causing me to dump a two mouthfuls out.

drank Strawberry Lemonade by DAVIDsTEA
85 tasting notes

My children picked this one out to try since they enjoyed the pink lemonade tea.

I brewed a jug of iced tea for the entire family to enjoy. Dried you pick up a citrus scent with a hint of strawberry, which made everyone excited to try. While it is brewing, it is a deep red similar to strawberries. The scent while brewing is a stronger citrus. Taste wise, I enjoyed it but it was more citrus and tart than what I had expected. I was hoping for more of a sweet strawberry taste with a hint of lemonade. My family have yet to taste this batch, but I know already some of them may not like it (to sour for some).

Next time, I am going to try this as a cold brew or a hot brew.

Flavors: Citrus, Citrus Fruits, Pleasantly Sour

I am in love with this tumbler! It was exactly what I needed to add to my day away from home. It is quick and easy to use and steeps while I prepare lunches and bags for school. It makes the perfect amount of ice tea to get me through the afternoon and has helped reduce the amount of pops I am drinking (I know terrible habit – now being replaced by a better habit lol).

It is easy to use and doesn’t over steep the tea, but it can be a little tricky to take apart at times. I have started giving this as a gift to my fellow tea drinkers along with gift cards to buy their own leaf tea (saving the world one canned ice tea at a time).

I bought this tea press for my oldest daughter so she could have ice tea at school (she doesn’t drink enough lol). She loves mandalas so this was the perfect gift for her after helping out with her younger siblings. She will use it, but only if mom makes the ice tea for her, otherwise she claims she has no time.

drank Passion Punch by DAVIDsTEA
85 tasting notes

While out shopping with my oldest daughter, we stopped into DavidsTea to grab some new goodies. I allowed her to pick out three flavours from the prepackaged selections and she choose Passion Punch, which I was eager to try as well.

We agreed that we would try this tea iced and so I made a large pitcher for the entire family to enjoy (husband, three kids, and myself – the pitcher is easier than creating individual glasses). As per the norm the younger kids watched the tea brew and change colours from a light pink to a dark red-pink colour.

Dried the tea smells sweet almost tropical like those hand lotions that are in season right now.
Steeped it has a very citrus like aroma (for me it does at least)
Taste wise, it has a floral tart flavouring which I would rather have in a hot brew. I was expecting something more sweet. My kids do not like it though, to bitter for them. My husband is not a very big tea drinker (coffee lover that one is) and said it would taste better with something mixed in it.

Next time I will try it with soda water and see how that makes it tastes, or perhaps as a hot brew to finish up the small amount that is left.

Flavors: Bitter, Citrus, Tart

Preparation
Iced

drank Glass Nordic Mug by Teaware
85 tasting notes

I was given the glass nordic mug for Christmas and really didn’t think much of it or the boxed tea that came with. I even tried to re-gift it to my oldest daughter stating that I already had a steeper (which makes 100 cups lol) that I did not need an individual cup to do the same job.

Fast forward a year and here I am using this cup every morning to help start my day. My kids love to gather around the table as we eat breakfast together to watch the colour change as the tea steeps; they will also ask to smell it 101 times.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for the perfect cup of steeped tea!

drank Main Squeeze by DAVIDsTEA

I have had tried this tea twice now, both were the small samples that come with the online order. I have only tried this tea through a hot brew and have absolutely enjoyed it. Not sure if I would have the same feelings if it was cold.

Today I needed a pick me up since we were piling in the car for an hour drive and I was still not awake. I used my trusty contigo and set off. It was a comforting companion as we drove to the most boring car parts flea market known to man (ok maybe wife and kids lol). I did enjoy the old car show part though.

Both times that I have tasted this tea, it has been refreshing and not an over powering orange taste, but smooth and the perfect amount. It is my first time trying a mate based tea so I didn’t really know what to think. It started off strong, but quickly became smooth and enjoyable. The aroma was enjoyable!

I am left confused though how it gets the orange taste without any orange flavouring.

I do wish I had more of these tea for those rough mornings where my eyes want to stay shut!

Flavors: Orange Zest, Smooth

Preparation
195 °F / 90 °C 7 min, 0 sec 5 g 16 OZ / 473 ML

drank Tea The North by DAVIDsTEA
85 tasting notes

I am very conflicted when it comes to Tea the North.

I want to like it, I really do. For the most part, I really enjoyed the scent of the store canister and the sample drink I had there. I bought the decorative tin (mostly because I thought it looked cool) and made my way home happy with my purchase.

I did not open it right away, but waited a few days before preparing an iced brew to take to work with me. The scent coming from the pre-sealed bag was overpowering and very strong. I wasn’t even sure if I would continue with the tea as planned. I let my thirst take over and prepared the tea and was on my way. It has a very strong coconut flavour, which is alright but I was hoping for a more rhubarb flavour, or something more complementary in flavour.

When I returned home, I took out the container to see if the scent that was coming from the tea was due to the packaging, since the tea had not smelt that way in store. To my disappointment though it was still overpoweringly strong. I had my oldest smell the tea to see if it was just me and then my husband smelt it as well. I told him it reminded me of nail polish remover, which he commented that it was very acetone like.

I had another ice brew of the tea, with the same over power coconut taste. I had thought about trying it just hot, but the smell throws me off course every time I open the container.

Profile

Bio

I am happily married to my husband who definitely is the chatterbox of our 20 year relationship. Together we have three rambunctious children 2 daughters and a son who is stuck in the middle of the girls. We also have a 17 year old fur baby (cat) who likes to the rule house and tell us at midnight it is time to pay attention to him rather than sleep.

I am an elementary school teacher, teaching grade 3/4 with a mixed bag of learning abilities and educational needs. I love my job and share my passion for learning with my students.

I have been a tea drinker since I was allowed to take my first sip, which was very early in life and was mostly the Rose Hip and Earl Grey my grandma would brew by the pot full and serve when company came over. Later in my teen life (once I had more choice of my own) I fell in love with peppermint and green teas. I love hot brews and iced teas. Now I will try just about any kind of tea as long as it doesn’t contain nuts or gluten (damn allergies ruin everything).

I prefer my tea to be natural, meaning without any added sweeteners or cream/milk. I want to be able to experience the tea as it was intended.

My Rating Scale:
0-20: OMG what did I just put into my mouth! I cannot keep this it must be trashed or rehomed.
20-40: Horrible, not something I will drink again, but someone else may still like it
40-60: Ok, nothing overly special, it is kept around because others like it
60-80: Good, either I or someone else in the house liked it
80-95: Great! Will drink this occasionally and will keep it around
95-100: Absolutely amazing, and must keep it in stock at all times!

I invite you to join me as I go through my stash and share my thoughts and opinions on the teas as I and my family drink them (or eat them as my 3 year old says when I use matcha in icing)
