I received this tea as a free sample with the purchase of teaware. Peter was so generous . he included 4 samples of shou and sheng. Thank you so much !

This tea is beautiful. the chunk consisted of intact leaves. Smelled so good.
it was roughly around 7g.
Went with my 95ml gaiwan. The tea opened up around 5-6 steep. it is smooth, creamy and incredibly clean taste. Some bitterness, not excessive and easily controlled with short steeps. it gave me so much positive energy. I felt relaxed and happy. A little sleepy too. Today is my 3rd day of drinking it. Still strong.

Im so behind with my tasting notes. Rainy day is great to sip some tea.
This tea is part of my sampling set. very generous samples of 50g each.
3g 8oz 200F 3min
this tea is excellent. So sweet and malty and smooth. Practically no astringency, maybe as it cools it becomes noticeable. i find it with all indian/Ceylon teas. You should drink it while its hot. resteep was excellent @ 5min. not short of flavor at all. Sweet and smooth.
Im guessing if i would brew it longer some milk and sugar would be nice. i prefer it without any additions.

Thank you so much Curious Tea for the great opportunity to try your wonderful teas. I love the quality, taste and presentation. Highly recommended.

this tea is a part of the samples for review . thank you so much NanNuoShan tea for the great opportunity to taste such wonderful tea.
i used the whole sample.
6g 100ml porcelain gaiwan 195 F
rinse/pause/10/7/5/5/7/10/15sec etc
I brewed this tea for 2 days, increasing temp to 200F and steeping time. Its very giving.
The roast done beautifully. its not stale, overly charcoal. Just right. Sometimes aged oolong leaves some scratchy aftertaste on my throat. this is not the case.

It is very smooth and fruity. So juicy, peachy, maybe even nectarines and some raw nuts. later steeps reveal some citrus notes.

i was very happy with this tea and would consider ordering it.

Non Smoky Lapsang Sauchong.
i used my usual parameters. Entire sample of 6g
6g 100ml porcelain gaiwan 200F
rinse/pause/ 5/3/5/7/10sec etc
This tea is rich and sweet like dark chocolate. No astringency or bitterness. Sweet and smooth and pleasure to drink. Some may add drop or two of maple syrup (I have to always mention Sil and Terri since its not my idea). it rounds up all the flavors.

Thank you so much NanNuoShan tea for your wonderful samples

i went with entire sample which was about 6g
6g 100ml gaiwan 195F
Rinse/ pause/ 5/5/7/10/15 sec
This tea is medium roast Da Hong Pao.
Its nice ,sweet and not overly roasty .
I would say its very safe for the people interesting in yancha but afraid of roasty or punchy flavors.

This tea is part of very generous box of samples . Thank you so much for such a great opportunity to sample your great teas.

i went with the entire sample which was about 6g .
95ml gaiwan, 200F rinse/pause/3/5/5/5/7/7/10sec etc

The tea is wonderful. I was cautious not to oversteep it, so my steeps were very short, some even flash.
started mild, then progressed to a nice minty cool and spicy flavor. i cannot say i experienced any harsh bitterness or astringency. It was very pleasant. i really liked that minty cool freshness.
Later steeps lost the mint flavor but again no bitterness ( or maybe im getting used to it so i dont notice haha)

i highly recommend to try this tea. i really enjoyed it.

Good point on over-steeping. I steeped this at my normal rate for pu-erh and decided it was just too harsh to drink now, but potentially a very good tea in 10 years. When I dropped the steep times in half (at the 4th steep) it was once more approachable.

boychik

I think I tamed it with short steeps knowing Mahei is brutal ;)

I received a box of two samples of my choice to review.
Let me tell you. i haven’t seen 50g samples. Ever. it was packed nicely.

Today i tried this tea.
my usual parameters 5g 120ml teapot
rinse/ 10/15/20/30 etc
this tea is sweet and so smooth. thankfully not much of sweet potato (im tired of sweet potatoes;)
its more caramely, malty, some floral and honey and spice. long lingering sweet aftertaste. Some slight astringency , not unpleasant but rather welcoming. to make it complex and interesting

Thank you so much Curious Tea for sending me this sample. its sure a winner !

This one is one of my favorite Yunnan Black( Red ) tea.
i brewed it Western today. my usual parameters 3g 8oz 200F for 3min

This tea is wonderful. its smooth and sweet but not overly. Im getting tired of sweet potato notes. thankfully this is not this kind. Some floral and savory. very enjoyable cup.

drank Rougui by Nannuoshan
493 tasting notes

I received samples from Nannuoshan for review.
let me just say its creative presentation and i really loved personalized letter.

Today i decided to start with Rou Gui. i sampled a few before so i knew what to expect.
i prepared it according to website parameters.
3g 90C 110ml porcelain gaiwan
rinse/ 60/60/60/90sec
i really loved the aroma coming when i rinsed the leaves. Simply divine. Mix of roasted nuts and florals. But floral notes in this tea are not strong (thank god). its just beautiful compliment to the complex mix of peaches and roasted nuts and cinnamon.

1 steep @60 sec – pleasant, not super roasty, some floral, hint of cinnamon. slight sweetness coming thru. Very aromatic

2,3 steep @60sec- leaves are opening up more, more intense in flavor. but never harsh. i found 2nd and 3rd steep are pretty similar.

4 steep @90sec – very nice and pleasant, not harsh in any way. Some citrus-y notes emerging and cutting thru sweetness of peach and nuts (not roasted any more lol). now im thinking it reminds me nectarines more than peaches.

To sum up: many people are not huge fans of roasted oolong. this one is perfectly fine and safe. Give them a chance, its like delicious fruit compote in your mouth. The sweetness is lingering long after i finished my session.

6g for 100cc and flash or quick steeps. This is my usual parameters . im pretty sure i didnt experience the whole beauty of this tea my way. i have 3g left. i may do it my way and report the results.

For the record I stopped rating any tea long time ago. it is hard for me to put a number. the more i try the harder it is.

ooooh! “delicious fruit compote”… yum.
And, I’m with you on the number rating thing… I just can’t do it.

DeliriumsFrogs

(loved the instagram pics, too!)

Red Fennekin

Sounds really delicious! I’m with you on roasted oolongs too – they’re really special teas that definitely do not not need to be feared!!

jschergen

I agree with your comments on ratio. I’ve stopped packing my pot as much as Iused to, but like my Yancha with lots of leaf!!

As long as you’re OK with a little bitterness, bringing up the leaf-to-water-ratio really helps to enhance the body, mouthfeel, etc.

AllanK

I like roasted oolong when roasted right.

drank 2014 New Amerykah 2 by white2tea

First steeps were very mild but i knew its deceiving. on a 3rd steep it hit me. it is strong bitter tea but i like it a lot. only few months ago i probably wouldnt be able to drink it. Besides being bitter its incredibly smooth, even creamy. and there is a sweetness comes in the end of the sip. very happy i was able to try this sample. its a swap from Instagram member. i need to ask him if he is on Steepster.

It’s punchy for sure. But I like it

Cwyn

I’m seriously thinking of push aging mine. There is no way I’m gonna live long enough for it to age naturally.

mrmopar

Cwyn, You can send it to me to age in the “pumidor”…

TeaBrat

I may skip this one, I have enough bitter shengs for now :D

Cwyn

Mr mopar, yeah I might do that.

MzPriss

I’m putting mine in the shengidor. When the shengidor is finished, which it almost is. Thanks mr mo!

paxl13

I’m on steepster and enjoying the NA2 right now :) I love that tea… I’d be curious to see how it aged out but honstly I’m about halfway throught the cake already :)

boychik

im picking it up with my next order ;)
