807 Tasting Notes
Hey hey hey I got a sample of this from TeaEqualsBliss and its pretty darn good!
I was not anticipating much mostly because the smell was bland but this brewed into a nice tea!
I would not even mention the smokiness because honestly I don’t think anyone who didn’t know what smoky tea tasted like would identify it as smokey. I know that word tends to put some people off so I would leave it out.
Now with that said – it has a slightly smoky flavor in the background LOL.
Its mostly rich, fruity, creamy, thicker and heavier than most tea in mouthful and sweet.
I have to say the sweetness and fruitiness hit me first and foremost. I could not add any sweetener to this as I feel it would be too sweet for me if I did.
This is a lovely tea and I am so happy I had a chance to try something that I guess is not around anymore!
Thank you SO MUCH TeaEqualsBliss for passing this on my way!
I have not tried this yet so I am cheating as this is not really a tasting note HOWEVER …
I have added this to my cupboard because I do believe this is what I purchased at an Asian shop in St. Louis.
The Tea Company I know is correct.
The packaging looks identical.
HOWEVER I find no DATE on mine.
If anyone has advice on how to find the date to be sure this is in fact what I have please let me know.
Otherwise I have to assume this is it since it looks right and is the only one like this I find here under this company.
Then again I suppose the company could have others LIKE it that are not yet added.
Ugggg
I am a bit “iffy” about trying it.
The gunpowder green I got from this shop is very nice but with Puerh I tend to be skeptical!
Especially since I got a 350g in a nice box (reminds me of fireworks) for only 6.49!!
That picture shows a CNNP wrapper, not a Menghai Dayi wrapper. There are alot of counterfeit teas. $6.49 for a 357 gram beeng likely means a poor tea, labeled with a fake wrapper. They are everywhere in China.
I feared that. The marking in the middle – The green – its not centered properly as if it was printed cheaply. Bummer. It smells pretty decent but who knows what the heck is in it! LOL
no, thank you!!!! :) I had a couple come in here once that had been sold a cake for over $100. They had had a good experience buying it, so I never told them that they had been swindled. You couldn’t have paid me to drink that tea. They weren’t going to drink it… for them it was just a decoration with a good story behind it.
Thank you TeaEqualsBliss for this lovely sample! A generous sample as well! I can try it hot and iced, sweetened and straight! Love that!
This has a lovely smell true to black currant. I very much agree with that it is somewhat wine like as TeaEqualsBliss stated! I can also see it being excellent iced as LiberTEAS stated! Can’t wait to try it that way too!
I would not mind having this in my stash as a fixture! :)
Stacy sent me a sample of this and I am IN LOVE!
I was not anticipating such a treat this morning!
Getting on a REALLY early morning schedule is biting me in the rumpus today but I am forcing myself to do this.
Barely capable of brewing a cup I manage to make this A MAZE ING tea this morning and it is really giving me that gentle SHOVE I needed!
I am totally getting this creamy, cinnamon like honey flavor and again I need to say CREAMY with a creamy mouthfeel!
I must have more of this!
The peachy notes are sweet, like peach marmalade!
But since it is sweetened by the honey notes its more like an organic or naturally sweetened peach.
I wish I were more with it this morning to properly explain what I am getting from this tea but I am just going to stop, sit back, and enjoy this cup!
Oh yummmm!
Passing this onto TeaEqualsBliss call me unobservant but I just saw in a tasting note that she loves mint teas! I do enjoy this one very much but its time for it to go to another home. There is only enough for a few cups but I know they will be most enjoyed with her! :)
Mmmmmmmmm I do love this one! Thank you TeaEqualsBliss for this LOVELY tea! You know it is so much like my beloved Almond Cookie from Joy’s Teaspoon and a couple other teas I have that are very similar except this actually has TEA in it! LOL I think this is one I will fall in love with and order more of! I absolutely LOVE the flavor of this tea yet it has the black tea kick I need in it. Oh yes I am in love here. SIGH sweet but not sappy, almond, crusty baked good flavor, nutty, buttery, what more could I want in life?
Thank you thank you thank you TeaEqualsBliss yes tea does equal bliss! :)
Quick Backlog … Before I went to St. Louis we took a quick day jaunt down to Kansas City home of Shang Tea. I wish I had more time there – they are SUCH lovely people but we were so hungry and both my and my daughter’s blood sugars were dropping fast so we had to go eat soon. Anyway after sampling a few teas and picking up two that I wanted – I had to grab some of this!
When we sampled it we all were so surprised! It is SWEET VERY SWEET like liquid all nature sweetener! Now I would not drink this straight myself although my daughter LOVED it straight, but it is PERFECT and let me repeat PERFECT to add only a little bit to your other teas to sweeten ALL NATURAL!
I LOVE this stuff should have got more but I do have a little to share. I am for sure sending some to Kittenna and TeaEqualsBliss in soon to come trades.
If anyone else really loves to sweeten their tea or is curious about this please let me know. Oh and I even got a discount on it when I mentioned I was going to share with fellow Steepsters! How cool is THAT for customer service??
:)
If you live anywhere near KC go into Shang and enjoy sitting and sampling all their teas and look around at all their lovely pots and also jewelry and other neat items!
Lovely place, lovely people!
I will be back when I have more time – consider yourself warned lol.
Yes as in like sugar, agave, honey but different – its just like SWEET lol PM me your address and I’ll send ya some!
Honestly all I know is what is on their site about it here:
http://www.shangtea.com/sweet-leaf-tea
Hello all, glad you are interested in the Sweet Leaf Tea. The scientific name is Rubus Suavissimus, the Chinese Blackberry plant. It is a member of the rose family and the leaves produce their own sweetener similar to stevia.
Here’s a generic overview from wikipedia of the Rubus family: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubus
There are also multiple studies out there about this plant that talk about the chemical composition, etc.
Let me know if there are any other questions, thanks everyone!
Thank you IndigoBloom for this lovely sample!
I have been away on a short trip which seems like a really long one I am so exhausted but we had a great time!
This tea is really nice. I could easily see this as a daily drinking oolong especially at the price! You know the one that is for sure going to please everyone in your company but not TOO special that you feel you need to horde it away lol.
Its pleasing with a very nutty flavor and that all too familiar and wonderful oolong after taste. It has a pretty golden hue to the brewed leaf and a nice aroma.
The after taste is lingering more so than many teas I have tried and I like that a lot.
The more I drink this the more I am liking it! Thank you IndigoBloom!!!
Interesting that both you and Amy oh just reviewed this and didn’t like it. Happy enough to try it though!
yeah I was not a fan of this…
Hey you may love it like the others did :)
