Doh, I’ve been busy with family stuff, so I’m falling behind in my tea logging. However, I’m crazy enough to write my blog posts in advance.

Watermelon xylophone blog love! http://oolongowl.wordpress.com/2013/01/27/watermelon-xylophone-from-butiki-teas-tea-review/

My roommate that I’ve introduced to tea loves this tea now! He is a watermelon freak and considers half a large watermelon a snack. he resteeped this tea so many times after I went to bed, I’m not sure how well it turned out.

Butiki Teas

Oh man, that guy really needs to learn kitchen safety but that watermelon juice does look awesome.

Having tried many of The Persimmon Tree’s teas – they have a couple that are more centered around the tea, with light flavoring accenting the tea – White Peach is one of them. If you enjoy a good white peony/bai my dan, this is up your alley.

Iced, however, White Peach is a monster of flavor – peachy, lightly floral and sweet. I can see this tea being a staple for me in the summer, very yummy!

Arggg! I love this tea, and like DavidsTea Banana Oolong – I got to the bottom of my bag of tea, steeped it up and I got a pot full of stevia!

wahhh! Really sucks as I highly recommend this tea for blueberry lovers – I loved Blueberry Jam, bought it a few times. It’s really blueberry and delicious. End of the bag? Not so much. It’s just overly sweet, funky stevia mouth sensation and a pour out. Sigh.

Mmm, I made this into bubble tea!

Double strength, poured over milk, ice and honey. I also boiled up some tapioca pearls I got from the locate asian supermarket. Super yum! Caramelly, sweet and a little coffee taste!
So happy too as I know this is way less calories than actual bubble tea! I’m just lacking a wide straw. Sigh.

Iced

That’s a great idea! Thanks for sharing.

drank Pumpkin Chai by DAVIDsTEA

Backlogg’n

I had an interesting evening last night with my roommate – the coffee drinker that makes coffee 1 to 2 parts coffee, 1 part water in a french press, steeped overnight. His coffee is so black, light doesn’t shine through the glass press. My husband tried his coffee once and almost threw up. I’ve seen this roommate drink tea sometimes – the horrible lawn clipping cheap tea bag kind.

I was drawing and he came upstairs to visit, as I think he was bored or kinda lonely. I offered him a cup of tea – but my tea collection is so vast, it was hard to narrow down what to show him. He finally suggested a chai. I decided to go with Pumpkin Chai as it’s a pretty solid chai, without being too strong.

He doctored it with honey and a splash of milk and loved it! He then wanted to try a resteeping and enjoyed it as well. It was a lot of fun, he told me stories of drinking a really strong chai in Iraq while he was in the US Military.

Finally – I have a tea buddy!

Perhaps he would like pu’erh???

Oolong Owl

I agree – I’m going to show him pu’erh next tea session.

Whispering Pines Tea Company

I love converting coffee drinkers! :) Also, in a totally non-biased way, might I suggest my Dark Chocolate Oolong http://whisperingpinestea.com/darkchocolateoolong.html

I’ve converted 4-5 coffee drinkers into tea-only drinkers with it :)

Also, suuuuper excited – I just moved back to Prescott, AZ and already have like 5 tea buddys! :D Definitely one of the greatest things in life – being able to share tea with another person :)

Oolong Owl

Ooh, that dark chocolate oolong sounds like a coffee converter for sure!

Woot Woot! /first tea log of a Steep City tea dance

Okay tea peeps, this tea is killer! Very tangy, like a sugared gummy candy, fresh, super strawberry and a little creamy. Very delicious! Mmm, I love the tangyness of this tea! Next time I want to go to town on a bag of gummies, I should really reach for this tea instead!

(psssst, there is a promo code for us Steepster folk in the discussion boards and $4.75 for 2oz of YaYa Strawberry? Very nice!)

drank Buttercream by DAVIDsTEA
1271 tasting notes

Sip down of buttercream – I left enough for a small pot. My stash is getting out of control and I really need to finish older teas to make space for new ones!

I have a love / hate relationship with this tea. I love the smell but I don’t like the chamomile. I do hope DT brings this tea back for others to enjoy!

However, today I’m needing that relaxing chamomile – I got a evening at home to study Korean. I should be going to jiu jitsu, but last night I armbarred someone, but when I fell to the ground to finish them off I got shinned in the head by the pair next to us. So I got a tender head today and probably should take it easy. Time to relax with some Buttercream!

I had way too much fun with this tea’s appearance! It was like being a little kid again and arranging Cheerios on a plate!
The rings were so pretty too and looked amazing up close and steeped!

Taste? Moderate level of jasmine with a bit of dryness at the end. Not much “wow” factor in flavor, but the appearance is so cool!

drank Onyx by Physique: Body of Tea
1271 tasting notes

Onyx has a nice light pu-erh taste – no fishyness or crazy strong robustness. The tea bag performed well here and did a good job letting out flavor and keeping all the leaves inside. Also, the tea bag held up perfectly with all the infusions – the durable physique tea bag was made for this tea!

I think this tea would be great to take to work, I’m thinking a Monday after a weekend of too much fun. Or, you are just coming back to work after a nasty cold. This tea is no fuss, reliable, easy to steep and keeps putting out flavor.

I got 5 resteeps and I could of gotten more – however, each resteep tasted the same. I was hoping for more depth or interest that I’ve gotten with other pu erhs.

This tea is dead on pineapple upside down cake. DEAD ON.

On its own, the tea tastes like yellow cake batter with that oozy brown sugar top (err.. bottom?) of an upside down cake.

Once sweetened, the pineapple flavor pops and BAM, pineapple upside down cake in a cup. Very tasty!

The downfall of this tea? Now I want to bake a pineapple upside down cake and I don’t have any pineapple.

I’m a tea blogger – The Oolong Owl

I was raised on floral oolongs and green teas, mostly “beauty” teas. Early on as a kid, I can guzzle an entire pot of tea (or two) at a Chinese or Japanese restaurant.
These days I like adventurous and interesting tea blends. I’m fearless in trying new teas! I’m into oolong, pu’erh, white, green, black, guayusa, mate and herbals. I’m not into red rooibos but I keep buying it anyway.

The tea brand that got me started into loose leaf teas was DAVIDsTea. I used to live in Vancouver Canada and had access to their shop, however that is now limited since I moved to southern California.

However, the perks of living in the US is ultra cheap, fast shipping! Since then, my tea stash insanely expanded.

Other stuff I’m into that sneaks into my tea notes: Brazilian jiu-jitsu, metal music, drawing, painting, cooking, photography and nail polish.

BTW, my Steepster cupboard is not even close to accurate and I track my teas on a spreadsheet. Last update 573 Teas – August 2015.
