1271 Tasting Notes
From the August Simple Loose Leaf Selection Club
This one is a moderate to high flavored bergamont earl grey that is on the sweet side. I like the Nilgiri base as it adds a nice bold flavor with a smooth texture. Lady Earl Grey finishes with a sweet citrus cream note and a light astringency. I wished there was more creamy in this blend, but the wonderful base kind of makes up for it. I thought this was too pungently bergamont to be labelled Lady Earl grey, but as an earl grey it’s pretty good (for heavy bergamont lovers).

Mmm blueberries. I’m too dangerous to be around blueberries as I eat them all! HAHA!
Anyways – for the August Box of Simple Loose Leaf Selection club I chose this tea – Blueberry White, a shou mei white. The dry leaf is pretty big leafed and twiggy – very hard to measure so I suggest using a scale.
The flavor leans a lot to the shou mei – which has a strong juicy fruity flavor. The blueberry comes out a little at first sip and aftertaste, so just a twist on a strong cup of white tea. I’d personally like more blueberry, but the white tea is pretty good.

YUM! This is good! I love the pairing of the malty keemun with the walnuts and banana. The banana is super natural tasting, as if I’m eating a firm, sweet yellow banana! I found the blend overall pretty sweet too.
If you let the tea cool a bit, the banana flavor comes out more. FRBWT resteeps fairly well, but without much in banana flavor so you get to enjoy the keemun and walnut.

Mamaki tea! First off, mamaki can be steeped for at least 5 minutes – and traditionally is steeped for 1 hour! So I tried it at 5, 15 and 1 hour steepings!
The longer the steep, the richer the flavor. Lots of yam, corn, sweet potato, little herbal and sweet notes. I prefer the longer steeping – even with the long steep, the tea never gets bitter or dry. Mamaki would be the perfect caffeine tea to leave in your tumbler while you sip away.

Whoa, a twist! Jungsun is the cheaper Korean green tea offering from Hankook Tea. This one has more corn, barley and hay flavor than grassy green. Delicious sweetness too. This one reminds me of korean barley tea. Very unique flavor for a green tea!

Doo Mool is an organic Korean tea – this one a second flush sporting a marine, unami and savory green tea flavor that has an even flavor throughout the sip. This green would be perfect for someone who likes a more savory tea. In comparison (and probably personal taste) I preferred the other Korean green teas I tried from Hankook Tea more.

Of all the 4 Korean green teas I sampled from Hankook Tea, this one is hands down my favorite! Teuksun is complex – it is a mix of first and second flush teas, so you get that delicate, sweet and smoothness, but with a more robust grassy depth and a sweet tart finish! Love it!

Korean Green Tea Time!
Gamnong is one of the higher priced offerings at Hankook Tea. This one is a first flush grade that tastes delicate, fresh, clean, crisp, creamy, light floral and grass notes. So sweet and delicate. The steeped leaves are a beautiful vibrant green! Wow!
I’d compare this tea to say the luxury of drinking a Gyokuro, with Gamnong being much more delicate, sweet and not very grassy.

Preparation
From Reddit traveling tea box.
Hmm, the scent of the tea was freaking me out – medicinal and strong. First sips had lots of Tulsi flavor. After a few sips and time to cool, not too bad. The rootbeer taste is interesting and the oolong is nice. The Tulsi I’m undecided on with the herbaly mint like flavor.

Technically from the reddit traveling tea box.
So, this pu’er is all YOLO. Seriously. This raw pu’er packs a punch – it’s strong, sweet yet acidic bitter, tobacco notes, hay, gritty, floral, thick, and creamy. Amazing aftertaste. Emphasis on strong flavor – I did 10 second steeps with this pu’er and it only needed to go up in time around the 12th round. This tea cannot be stopped! I got 16 infusions, with the late infusions getting mineral ambery, smokey, honey and floral. New Amerykah 2 is hella strong, but the later steepings are worth it. Might not be for a new pu’er drinker, this one certainly tested me!
BTW, Cwyn did a crazy awesome review of this pu’er – best review on Steepster, IMO.
