God morning Steepster!
I am off to Minneapolis today, don’t know how much tea I will be drinking on vacation, but I hope to pop in on Verdant tea and maybe Mandala if I have the time.

This 1910 is still a fabulous breakfast tea and I hope it wakes me up soon because I still need to pack!

have a greeeeat week :)

boychik

Lucky!!! Enjoy your trip!!!

Terri HarpLady

Awesome! If you stop into our beloved tea shops, please hug everybody & say it’s from me! :)

Cheri

Enjoy!

mj

Welcome to my neck of the woods! The weather has been GORGEOUS. I hope you have a great time :-)

TeaBrat

Thanks mj! I’m packing right now and am really looking forward to being somewhere sunny, it’s FOG CITY here. :)

mj

It’s’ bright and sunny here right now! I don’t know how familiar you are with Minneapolis or if you have contacts here already, but if you have any questions or need something, please feel free to message me :-)

Thank you Stephanie for generously sending me this sample!

It’s a little late for me to be drinking caffeine, but I just woke up from a nap. I was kept awake last night by a snoring boyfriend and a mosquito bite that had me itching. Hopefully the caffeine in this won’t keep me awake later…

This tea is so interesting looking. I love the long slender leaves that are bright green and look pressed flat, almost as though someone had ironed them. I decided to steep this at 170 F for around 3 minutes.

The tea liquor is a light yellowish-green. I definitely get the green bean flavor here but what’s amazing about this green is how sweet it is. The sweetness lingers in your mouth long after you’re done sipping it. It seems really fresh and light which is also good. Teavivre has so many good green teas and I was really glad I got to try this one. I wonder if anyone’s tried cold brewing it? It’s tasty.

Preparation

I’m glad you liked it! I’ve not tried cold brewing it myself.

The afternoon cuppa….

I don’t think I’ve ever had a dark roast houijcha before so I was looking forward to trying this. It’s pretty yummy! It definitely has a roasted flavor that is reminiscent of coffee, but there’s also a fruity, sort of cherry flavor about it and something creamy that would best be described as caramel. Normally houijcha is nothing for me to get super excited over, but this was a delicious sample. Glad I was able to try it…

Flavors: Caramel, Cherry, Coffee

That sounds fantastic! You are a terrible influence on my wallet! XD

TeaBrat

Steepster is dangerous! :D

Cameron B.

The shipping on that sampler is so high! QQ But I noticed that YunomiUS has all of their teas and their shipping is better so I may just order from there.

TeaBrat

good to know – yes the shipping was kind of pricey since it came from Japan. :/

Dexter

Steepster is very dangerous – this is something I would really like, so of course I’m looking at the web site….

Jennkay

I love Obubu hojichas, and I got all of mine from Yunomi. They seem to have frequent sales/shipping deals

TeaBrat

Looks like Yunomi has some good stuff! I’d be tempted to order but I’m swimming in Japanese teas right now :)

Good morning Steepster… I drank a lot of tea yesterday but didn’t post tasting notes because a lot of what I drank were things I have posted notes for multiple times.

Anyway, here’s another sample from the Obubu tea sampler pack. Bancha is a lesser grade of tea than sencha, but it’s still drinkable in my opinion. This has sort of a vegetaly-seaweed taste with a definite bitterness in the finish. It isn’t my favorite from Obubu by far but I will definitely finish off the pot I made this morning. Compared to their senchas it isn’t as light and sweet, but still far better than most if the mass market green teas you find on the market.

I feel like my tasting notes are getting shorter but that’s because I’m trying to limit the time I spend on social media sites… so please forgive me :)

Hmm, I’ve had this rooibos blend for a while and I don’t really care for it much. I decided I would try making it as an iced tea today and I actually like it better that way, but the cream flavor is sort of un-natural and off putting to me.

Would anyone like the remainder of the package? I have enough for maybe 1 pot of tea.

Cameron B.

Sure, I’ll try it if there’s anything you want to swap for in my cupboard. :P

Sipdown…
sadly I’m out of this, it’s been such a lovely Golden Monkey but luckily I do know where to get more. ;)

My cupboard overfloweth with tea but I still like to keep at least one Golden Monkey around as they are one of my favorites.

Preparation
2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML
Dustin

Do they not sell it at Aroma anymore?

TeaBrat

Yes, they do… which is why I know where to get more :) Just trying to save some money right now.

Dustin

I totally read that sentence wrong. Well cool, maybe I’ll check it out next time I’m there!

Thanks to Mz P. for sending some of this my way!

I can see why people like this tea… it smells very chocolate-y in the bag and when you steep it up it’s so nice and rich. It definitely tastes like chocolate too! Is it a flavored tea or is it natural? I see it has vanilla in it which would explain the almost creamy quality it has. Anyway I’m glad I got to try this one! It’s good with soymilk and it’s also good plain.

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 3 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML
MzPriss

It’s natural and it’s magic :)

TeaBrat

And yummy!

MzPriss

Indeed. My very favorite blend.

I got this one the other day and am just getting around to trying it.

I accidentally left it steeping too long so I’m not going to rate it right now. It might have been 5 minutes or longer. There’s been a lot of talk about the “barnyard” flavor of this tea. I’m not really picking this up. If anything it seems to be earthy in some ways like a good shu pu-erh is. It’s also kind of chocolate-y and also… savory. It almost seems to me like there is salt in here. So anyway I definitely plan to revisit this soon and rate it, but I’m glad it isn’t as scary ass I thought it would be. In fact, I kind of like it. :)

Flavors: Chocolate, Earth, Salty

ohfancythat

Oh good!
To me it tasted sort of like the way a horse smells, haha. Ah well

Single Origin Teas

ah! yep. Sorry my barnyard is supposed to be more like “freshly brushed horses”. So a clean barnyard smell. :)

drank Ginger by Triple Leaf Tea
2816 tasting notes

Hard to believe this was the only tea I had all afternoon. I was busy going to occupational therapy and doctor’s offices, and also I’ve been trying to motivate myself into looking for a job which isn’t easy. I need to focus more on career stuff and less on social media type stuff (yes, even YOU Steepster!)

Anyway this is just such a good and basic herbal, it’s just ginger and nothing else and it also comes in a teabag which isn’t optimal but makes it good for traveling. This will definitely be a restock for me once my current supply runs out.

Skulleigh

Good luck on the job hunting!

Terri HarpLady

Yeah, what skulleigh said! :)

TeaBrat

thanks :)

drank Lemoncello by American Tea Room
2816 tasting notes

I thought I’d try this one iced today, I think this might be my first time trying a red rooibos this way. I made some yesterday and then stuck it in the fridge, hopefully I will drink it in the next few days and this is also a god way for me to start drinking down my stash. My biggest complaint about this tisane is I just wish it had more lemon in it, but overall it isn’t too bad.
