drank Matcha by Radiance Tea
788 tasting notes

Steep Information:
Prepared at Radiance Tea House and Books while I had lunch.
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Smell: green tea, earthy, garden
Flavor: green tea, smooth, thick texture
Body: Medium
Aftertaste: vegetal, grassy, sweet
Liquor: dark cloudy opaque emerald green

It was neat to see the froth on it, and to drink from a large bowl instead of a cup. It was a thicker green tea to me, nothing amazing or special. It had no bitterness and was a sweeter green tea drink. Although I enjoy matcha ice cream and other things I don’t think I’ll go out of my way to have matcha tea again.

Post-Steep Additives: none

Resteep: you can’t resteep matcha as it is made from ground leaves.

drank Azteca Fire by Teavana
788 tasting notes

Steep Information:
Amount: 4.5 teaspoons
Additives: none
Water: full teapot, filtered, boiling
Steep Time: a little over 6 minutes
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Dry Leaf Smell: Chocolate covered strawberries
Tea Smell: chocolate covered strawberries
Flavor: chocolaty tea, hints of fruit with the end being a chili flavor
Body: Medium
Aftertaste: chili burn
Liquor: dark opaque brown, like coffee

The steeped tea has little chocolate bits that float around the top giving it a dirty look. There is also an oily sheen on the steeped tea. You don’t smell the chili but it is certainly there when you drink it! Although the strawberry was a strong smell I missed it in the tea itself.

Post-Steep Additives: none

Resteep: TBD

Preparation

Resteep: much lighter brown coloring, no coco flakes or cloudiness or oils, still a chocolate covered strawberry smell. The body would now be a light body, taste is still primarily chocolate followed by chili. The chili is weaker (which is good as I am not a spice fan, MilitiaJim is) and the apple seems to come out a little.

MilitiaJim now finds it weak and sad, I think it’s fine.

As I saw I think mixing this tea into coco or chocolate syrup, or MateVana or My Morning Mate, I am skeptical about adding peppermint.

drank Coconut Chai by Zhena's Gypsy Tea
788 tasting notes

Steep Information:
Amount: 1 teabag
Additives: none
Water: ? hot spigot (1 flavia cup full)
Steep Time: a little over 4 minutes
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Dry Tea Smell: spice with a hint of coconut
Smell: cinnamon, clove, spicy warm and comforting, maybe a faint hint of the coconut shell
Flavor: cinnamon, clove, black tea very well rounded and smooth
Body: Medium
Aftertaste: clove, ginger
Liquor: dark brown

This is a tea swap thanks to the lovely Jillian on Steepster. I think if I had more time a little honey or sweetener might enhance this tea, maybe creme? Sad the coconut isn’t a stronger flavor. This however is a wonderfully smooth and spicy chai.

Yeah, unfortunately it really doesn’t deserve the name ‘Coconut’ Chai. I’m glad you’re enjoying it though!

sometimes i wonder if the people naming them just look at the ingredients? i can’t wait to try making this with some milk and maybe honey, yumm

finished off my travelers tin (come on cupboard i need some space!) with a 7 minute 6 ounce steep, i feel this needs a long steep and sweetener, it smells peachy, and tastes like fruity roobois per my last note, but although pleasant i think i have other favorite reds I’d rather stock.

Would say that it had an effect on you in regards to medicinal qualities?

AmazonV

they said you need to have 2-3 cups a day, for days in a row, which i didn’t (the sampler then would have been gone in one day) so i can’t it did – but i also didn’t follow directions. Based off having their other “get” series I would say it’s more aromatherapy than anything else (it smells summery adn happy)

Jillian

Good point, also I think they had to use extremely low does of a lot of the herbs to avoid getting into trouble with the FDA. Some of those herbs can be nasty is you overdose or if it interacts with certain medications.

AmazonV

Very good point, then again I’ve tried all sorts of OTC herbal pills as well (primrose oil? etc) for various things and I didn’t notice a difference, but i think for a lot of things you might need to be taking a more scientific approach to see anything – small changes and changes to you are harder to spot. so for now, vitamins and comforting tea will do, maybe a sun lamp too?

Jillian

I usually just stock up on Vitamin C & D supplements and pray for spring – at least the weather seems to be obliging this year! :D

Steep Information:
Amount: 1 compressed tea ball 3.5g
Additives: none
Water: 1 teapot filtered boiling
Steep Time: a little over 6 minutes
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Smell: Jasmine, earthy
Flavor: jasmine, vegetal, light and smooth
Body: Light
Aftertaste: slight bite, followed by a floral lingering taste
Liquor: medium honeyed brown

This was another gift from a co-worker, I can’t believe I got a pu-erh!
I first did a 15 second rinse and soak (where the rinse was discarded).
Next time, as it is a green I want to try less than boiling water.
I tried 2 minutes, 3, 4, 5, and finally at 6 I thought it was strong enough. I am not sure I have the patience for pu-erh tea!

re-steep: 1 minute, 12 ounces water – just as strong as the first steep

AmazonV

Resteep #2: 12 ounces, 2 minutes – just as strong as the first brew, kind of getting mad at it b/c I am bored and want something else!

AmazonV

tried adding honey, bleh!

Steep Information:
Amount: 1 teabag
Additives: none
Water: 12 ounces filtered almost boiling, between 170-175
Steep Time: a little over 3 minutes
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Smell: Jasmine Flower, grassy
Flavor: light grassy smooth and delicately subtle
Body: Light
Aftertaste: floral
Liquor: light honey yellow-green

This is a strong smelling tea with a very delicate flavor, and the grassy is a very very light flavor so I don’t mind. I enjoy this tea, and as far as greens go I rate this one very high among those I have tried. I like this as Much as the Aloe Serenity and iced Peachberry Jasmine Sutra . Keeping in mind green is not one of my favorite types.

This is more water than the 6 ounces it should be, but i don’t think it was hurt by it at all. I also find it easier to believe most people have 12 ounce mugs and less use 6 ounce cups outside Steepster.

I purchased this as part of a sampler pack from Mighty Leaf.

Post-Steep Additives: none

Resteep: 5-6 minutes, too bitter, tried at 3 but it was a little bitter and weak. It’s drinkable but not as good as the first steep.

Always good to know another hibiscus lover! It’s one of my favorite flavors for an herbal tea.

Gingko (manager of Life in Teacup)

This makes me want to get some hibiscus tea too! I’ve never had hibiscus tea, but I love eating hibiscus flower. I used to get hibiscus flower snacks from Trader Joe, but they no longer have it. Any suggestions where else I can get the preserved hibiscus flowers?

I love caffeine! I prefer tea to coffee. I prefer my flavors to be in your face, not subtle.
