1796 Tasting Notes
Received this as a sample in a previous Whispering Pines order. I’ve fallen in love with so many WP teas, so I was excited to try something new. Very nice and malty, full of chocolate and baked-good flavors. I did steep at 212F for 4 minutes rather than the recommended 5min and I’m glad I did so. It has begun to develop a mild bitter bite in the back of the throat, and I believe the longer steep time would’ve ruined it. Overall, an incredibly tasty, satisfying cup.
Finished what I had left with a nice big pot. Sweetened with a tiny bit of honey. Really, really nice vanilla flavor. The mate doesn’t overwhelm the creaminess of the vanilla. Still getting a macadamia nut cookie vibe, which I love. This is one I would return to.
This is one of those teas that I forget about, and every year I try it again without having any memory of trying it before. I got a small tin of it in a set that was deeply discounted from the holidays (I got it because of the gold spoon that was exclusive to the set). Made myself a cup of this for myself and my boyfriend and it’s really pleasant. It never knocks my socks off, but it’s consistently pleasing. The black base holds up well against the vanilla and mint.
Just finished up a 20g bag of this, and I liked it the first couple times I drank it more than the last couple. I’ve had it for about a year, so not sure if the flavors dissipated, but the sweet, honey flavor that previously covered up the rooibos is no more. It’s pretty much a straight rooibos, with barely a hint of the honey bush or flavoring.
Just finished up my first 1oz bag of this beauty, and I can’t get enough. The fresh vegetal flavor has developed into this insanely gorgeous floral bouquet. I have to agree with previous reviewer, Linda, this tea smells like lilacs. I too have never experienced this flavor in tea form before, but it’s magnificent. I can’t get enough of this.
