1800 Tasting Notes
I’d been holding onto this tea for awhile, waiting for colder weather before sampling. This morning seemed like the perfect opportunity, so I brewed up a cup and put on The 39 Steps to watch before work.
The tea looks beautiful, with the juniper berries and cedar tips decorating the black base. Unfortunately, I can’t taste much of either. The cedar is completely undetectable, and the juniper is almost imperceptible. I did add some honey, so I will try it unsweetened next time, with some different steep parameters to try to coax more of the flavors out.
Another new tea! I had pretty high expectations for this , as I’ve been searching for my ultimate caramel tea and I prefer oolongs. I under-leafed it, but it’s still so tasty! Really smooth, creamy caramel flavor that works extremely well with the oolong. Not getting any saltiness, but that may be because of the ratio of ingredients I got in my mug. I’ll be getting more of this one when it’s restocked.
I want to try this one again so badly! I got it in my “sweet indulgence” box. But every time I go on the Canadian website, it is nowhere to be seen, or else I would order 100 grams of it, lol. So glad you enjoyed this one too. I also like their maple syrup oolong, have you tried that one yet?
Hopefully they restock it soon! It’s quite tasty.
I’ve tried Maple Syrup Oolong, and the stevia was a bit too strong for me.
This sold out so fast on the American site and never was restocked, only put in advents/gift boxes. Boo.
New tea! My enjoyment of earl greys comes and god, but I’ve been going through an enjoyment phase recently. However, as soon as I smelled this I knew I wouldn’t like it…and I was right. It tastes pretty close to my memory of Cream of Earl Grey, which I really don’t like. This has a similar ‘not really vanilla, but a weird buttery synthetic cream’ flavoring that I don’t care for. Glad I didn’t buy 2oz.
Have you tried cream of earl grey? Does it live up to the hype? I’m curious! I might get it during black Friday
I’m pretty positive this tea is Cream of Earl Grey, just with some red peppercorn and white needle leaves added to make it “look wintery”.
Mastress Alita they’re definitely very similar, but not the same thing – though you’re right that the silver needle/peppercorn are meant as visual accents. The black tea base is different though, and Winter Earl Grey using bergamot oil versus the bergamot flavouring used in Cream of Earl Grey. The vanilla flavouring, however, is the same. It’s sort of like Forever Frosty last year; definitely some major overlap with Forever Nuts and meant to be reminiscent of Forever Nuts, but some key differences too.
(Also – sorry if that comes off as snobby/“well actually” style mansplain-y at all! That’s definitely not my intention! I just happen to have the inside scoop, is all.)
Decided to watch Interview with the Vampire and sip on a mug of this fitting tea. Still loving this blend.
I’ve been craving a cup of this, but didn’t have any on hand. Luckily, it came in the new holiday sampler I just picked up and I brewed up a cup this morning. Definitely increasing my score, as it’s just so tasty! I know a lot of people put themselves either in the Santa’s Secret or CCC campy, but why can’t I be in both?
Flavors: Dark Chocolate, Peppermint, Vanilla
Made another big pot of this to sip throughout the day, but it’s nearly gone already. Steeped directly in oat milk. So creamy and delicious.
…also go GA and PA!
Oh my gosh! I need to order this soon. I’m going to try this in the holiday sampler pack before buying it haha! :)
I’ve never steeped this directly into oat milk, but I did have the other day a nice hot DT s’mores latte (concentrated 4 ps with water then mixed with hot foamy oat milk) with oat milk as the latte part which was very nice.
I had quite an interesting day yesterday. Kevin Smith has been my idol since I was 14 years old. So… for quite a long time. He means so much to me, and despite seeing him live a couple dozen times, I had never had the chance to meet him. Fast-forward to yesterday: I’m ago work, and it’s quite slow…and Kevin Smith walks by. I was absolutely paralyzed by shock. He disappeared. I lost my chance. An hour later, he walks by again! I ended up getting up enough courage to say hello. I started choking up [embarrassing], but I was able to tell him how important he is to me, and we had a nice little chat. Honestly, I’m still quite shocked that it happened, but very very thankful.
As for the tea, I had left this at work and it seemed like a perfect option to celebrate the joyous happening, and to settle my nerves. I’ll be sad when this one is gone.
How awesome that you got to meet your idol! I’m glad to hear that it turned out good for you, that he took the time to have a chat with you.
That’s so cool for you Amanda about Mr. Smith! I have this in my subscription box and haven’t gotten to it yet. :)
Ooh this makes me want to pull out my National Parks Dept. from Bellocq, it sounds quite similar…
I would like to try it if cedar and juniper were way more noticeable. Otherwise it seems quite boring.
Martin- Sadly it was quite boring.
Cameron- Have you tried the Bellocq blend? It does look quite similar.
Yes, I have it, but who knows if it tastes like anything at this point, being a few years old… :P
Everything is covered in snow here today – this tea would’ve been perfect!
