980 Tasting Notes

Mmmmmm. This tastes just like a mince pie. Candied fruits and marzipan. I grabbed more of this during the Bird and Blend Boxing Day sale, so I feel more comfortable sipping my way through the tin I have.

I used to be obsessed with this tea, but I seem to have lost my love for it. I’m just not finding it to be as delicious as it once was, and I don’t think it’s because of the tea’s age. The butter and brown sugar notes aren’t as delectable as I once found them.

I’ve been toying with the idea of trying out Tearunners and finally went for it. My tea subscriptions are now up to 5: Bird and Blend, Mansa, 52Teas, SipsBy, and Tearunners. I’m trying to get my cupboard under control, but I also live trying new teas…the conundrum of a tea lover.
I actually have very few straight black teas in my cupboard right now, which is what I’ve been drinking the most of.
I was so excited to see a Laoshan black in the first box. Verdant’s Autumn Laoshan black is one of my favorite black teas.
This has the delicious, rich dark chocolate flavor that I love in a Laoshan black. So easy to drink and cozy. But, I prefer Verdant’s offering over this one. The dark chocolate isn’t pronounced enough compared to Verdant’s.

Currently working on sipping through this one. It’s okay, just not something I need to have on hand. It’s mainly incredibly tart- like citric acid. It’s definitely more of a lemon flavor, rather than tangerine. There’s also a nice bit of of earthiness from the turmeric. Sadly, I can’t taste the oolong at all. I love that there’s moringa as well, but it doesn’t impact the flavor.

Flavors: Earth, Lemon, Tart

I forgot how mild the ginger is in this blend, and mixed it with Cold 911. I was hoping to add a spicy kick to Cold 911, but this didn’t add much. I’ll definitely be skipping this one in the future.

Sipdown 20-2021
A very sad sipdown. I actually thought I was already out, but found 1 more sample pack. This had just been one of my go-to no fuss, easy drinking black teas. It’s like drinking a dark chocolate covered cherry- slightly jammy and fruity, with the bittersweet chocolate being the dominant flavor. Verdant only had really large bags of the autumn varietal available, so I opted to restock with some of the spring crop. We shall see if it holds up!

Edit: Verdant actually did end up restocking more of the smaller size bags, so I grabbed 50g!

I really didn’t care for this. The charcoal smell is unbelievably strong. The charcoal flavor is more muted than the smell, but there is no nuance or complexity to the flavor.

Flavors: Char, Wet wood, Wood

Drank through a few oolong samples from jlTea (Fong Mong). One was a Jin xuan and the other 2 were lightly oxidized. Honestly can’t remember much about them because it’s been a few days and I’ve been waiting for Steepster to be not broken again.

I’m just sitting on all my notes (I write them externally anyway) until the site isn’t broken again, myself.

I would think root beer would be an odd flavor without carbonation, but it works really well. It’s creamy as well, which elevates it to float level, rather than just root beer.

Not much to add about this one, but I’m excited about my sipdown progress. Today is difficult. Bleh.

Hello! I live in Los Angeles with my boyfriend and 3 cats [+however many foster cats I have at the moment]. I’m also obsessed with all things spooky.

I became obsessed with the world of tea through DavidsTea years ago. I love to try new brands, so I’m constantly on the look out for new-to-me companies.

Favorite Brands:
Whispering Pines
The Necessiteas
August Uncommon
Jolie Tea Co.

Favorite flavors:
Sweet Potato

Red Rooibos

Though, I’ll taste anything once!

I mainly brew western style.I like my tea extremely strong, so I tend to use wayyyyy more dry leaf than suggested.
