The leaves on this tea almost look like a white tea: long and spindly with colours of white, light green, & dark green.

It’s a very light green with notes of hay & a slight buttery nuttiness. It’s also very sweet on the tongue. I enjoy this one but not quite as much as my more robust greens.

I normally buy my Japanese greens from Yunomi. However, last year I purchased one tea from Yuuki-Cha and enjoyed it so much; I decided to go with them. Based on the reviews of this tea it was supposed to have a grapefruit/green taste to it. I didn’t really taste the grapefruit but it did have that little astringent bite that would be similar to grapefruit. It was sweet and grassy and lasted through 4 infusions. Best of all this tea was 13.65US for 100g. That’s a good price for good quality shincha.

Very happy with this one.

I tried this tea years ago and gave it a high score of 97. It’s been a few years later and I am asking myself – Why wasn’t I ordering this tea every year????. This 2017 tea is just as amazing as it was then. From now on this tea is on my green tea list to order every year.
And I give it 100. It just doesn’t get any better than this.

I already left a review on this for 2016 tea but today I am trying the 2017 Premium Bi Luo Chun. I don’t know whether my taste buds are off lately or what’s going on but all the 2017 green teas I’ve tried lately have been okay but not up to par. So I decided I will switch over and gong fu them all. Go with the flow. Sometimes brewing in a cup with an infuser works fine. Now it’s not.

Brewed 4 g of leaves in a gaiwan at 80C 15 sec & 20 sec. Dry it smells very spinach like. It’s very sweet with asparagus and spinach notes. There’s a light fruity astringency too. Second brew was a little stronger than the first (more spinach like) which I liked.

So this one brewed in a cup (which I had earlier in the week) is merely okay. Brewed gongfu , definitely top notch.

Flavors: Asparagus, Fruity, Spinach, Sweet

Preparation
175 °F / 79 °C 0 min, 15 sec 4 g 4 OZ / 118 ML

One of the new 2017 greens I got from Yunnan Sourcing. This tea was posted really early and so I assume the picking had to be earlier than usual. The leaves look very much like a white tea, long and spindly. However it’s a dark green and white on the leaves. Very pretty!

I used a good amount of this tea (didn’t exactly measure – just put some in my palm) to brew in my cup. Brewed for 2 min at 80C. The smell of the dry leaves has a really nutty smell so I pretty excited to try this tea brewed up. However, when brewed the nuttiness is really diminished. It’s a very light tea. I sometimes like a light tea but this one is just doesn’t seem to have that much flavour to carry it through. I just keep wanted MORE nutty flavour than what’s there.

I think I’ll give the grandpa brewing method a try on this one next time. The caffeine is pretty low so it might be well suited to that type of brewing. I am going to hold off rating this tea until I try a few different brewing methods on it.

I had the same issue with a Dragonwell last year. Grandpa method was definitely the best method, despite continuing to have a light flavor. I just practiced enjoying a more contemplative cup and picking up on small flavor nuances. Good luck!

Ubacat

Was that the Dragonwell from YS? I had that one last year too.

Yeah, it was. Either fancy or premium grade. I had the same issue with Mao Feng too. I’m sticking with Bi Luo Chun and what I hope will be some more robust greens this year.

I haven’t left many tasting notes lately. I got in some more green teas in February because I ran out but of course they were still 2016 teas. I figured it was a good time to try some greens in small quantities that were on sale. That way I could determine if I wanted to order the 2017 tea when it came out.

I was pretty happy with this 2016 green tea. It maintained a decent nuttiness and sweetness that was still decent. Some green teas at this point fall off really bad with freshness and just lose a lot of flavour. I would say this one held out well and I’ve already ordered the 2017 green tea pack (which is 5 green teas) from Grand Tea.

This was my last cup of this one today and I am now at 50 teas in my cupboard. WOOHOO! Last year I was over 170 teas. I’ve really gotten my tea collection under control. I just wish I had less pu-erh. I like the occasional pu-erh tea but I still have near to 20 of them in my collection and it seems I am never taking them off my list.

This is a good remind for me to lighten up on buying puerh and possibly pick up some green tea samplers from Grand Tea. Thanks for the review.

Also, yay you on this great sipping progress!

Thanks Evol Ving Ness! For the 5 green tea pack from Grand Tea you can choose to get each tea in 25g, 50g , or 100g. I chose 50g each since I’ve tried all of last years and like them all.

Thank you. Very helpful. Currently not shopping, but I will, of course, one day. :)

This tea was from a sample Scott put in my order in February.

It says on their website this tea is usually picked around late Feb or early March. However, I received this sample Feb 17 so it must have been picked VERY early.

The leaves on this look a bit like dragonwell but are very tiny. Brewed up it’s a fresh chestnutty sweet flavour with a floral fragrance. I actually think I like it better than some dragonwells I’ve had and plan on getting more of this tea. I really love it.

I still have some of this left. Since it never gets bad I can hoard this tea safely. Enjoying it today. What a treat.

This is one of the oldest teas in my cupboard (in terms of when I bought it, not the year).
Looks like I never left a review on it either!

It was pretty good. Two quick rinses and then 1st brew was fruity, no bitterness. 2nd infusion was the best. Really creamy on that one along with the fruitiness. Then the creaminess fell off pretty quick and it was just fruity. Not bad but it doesn’t last many infusions. I am quite happy with that since I can never go more than 6 infusions anyway.

Flavors: Creamy, Fruity

Garret generously gave me 3 samples with my last order and this was one of them. I wish I had ordered some of this dragonwell! It’s juicy & fruity, slightly nutty, and sweet. I had a dragonwell I bought last year that didn’t live up to my expectations so I was a bit hesitant to try another dragonwell. This one is so good! I would have loved to try it when it was even fresher.

Flavors: Fruity, Nutty, Sweet

It won’t be that long and the spring 2017 crop will be available! I’ll make sure to order enough for you. The farm where this is grown is really nice. I loved hiking around and then sipping this tea fresh from that week. This green tea actually stores pretty well and even at a year + I’ve enjoyed it immensely. Kept air-tight and in a cooler part of a house, this tea keeps pretty well for a more delicate green tea. I’m so happy you are enjoying it!

Bio

Green teas are my favourite teas but I also enjoy: white, some herbal, rooibos, raw pu’erh, light oolongs, a little bit of black , and a little bit of ripe pu’erh. I have moved away from artificial flavourings and there’s hardly anything left in my cabinet with artificial flavouring or colours. It is mostly straight teas or tea blends.
