661 Tasting Notes
Was up for trying some of my samples this morning.
I like the name of this one. It goes along with the book I’m reading: EarthSea- The Farthest Shore. The book has dragons in it . Also had some dragonwell before this tea. It’s a dragon morning!
In spite of the nice name this tea is nothing fantastic. I usually don’t like artificially flavoured teas and I definitely get a lot of apple from this tea. There’s supposed to be a blend of white & green but my taste buds are very sensitive to any artificial flavours and all I could get was apple and a basic green tea taste (like you might get in a green tea teabag) . I suppose I might have enjoyed a tea like this at one time but think I’ve been spoiled with better quality teas.
I remember reading The Farthest Shore about a decade ago. Even named one of my WoW characters after Lebannen, one of the main characters.
Is that the third Earthsea? I have it on my Kindle. I’ve read the first two in my effort to remedy the gaps in my classic SFF reading, but I tend not to read things by the same author back to back. Now that I know this has dragons, it is going higher on my list. ;-)
I read all 3 books in this series but I found it very dark (Much taking place in the dark and much about death). After finishing book 3, I don’t think I would read book 4 even though I did like the parts about the dragons.
I purchased some Laoshan teas in November from Verdant. They are all great but I’ve had far too much going on in my life to leave reviews lately. I had this one this morning and it’s not my first time having this tea since I got it. I think I’ve had it 3 times now.
It has the deep green freshness I find in the Japanese teas. There’s a green pea flavour to it. I wish I could come up with more but I’ve been under considerable stress the last month so I can’t remember things too much. All I can say is this tea is fantastic.
I haven’t been posting reviews for awhile either. 2015 was so busy!
Here’s to a more laid back 2016 :)
That’s what I was hoping for too Terri! More laid back and less clutter. Spent the end of the holidays clearing out clutter.
Clutter IS endless!! I’ve been decluttering my house since July. I admit, it’s a big house, and I’m almost 57, so I’ve had a long time to gather junk, but I’m happy to say that it is getting easier to let things go. Someday (hopefully) my home will be streamlined and clutter free (we can all hope, right?)
This tea is excellent. If my tea cupboard wasn’t already overloaded I would order some of this tea. Thanks to Wooree Tea for the free sample.
I brewed this up the way I enjoy most green teas – in a cup with an infuser, 2 min, 80C. It’s got such a fresh spinach taste to it. That’s what I noticed at first but it’s very sweet, smooth & vegetal with a hazelnut note as well. Delicious!
Flavors: Hazelnut, Spinach, Sweet, Vegetal
Um is this tea a sheng or shu? Or neither? It seems to have qualities of both. It brews up a dark amber colour. I’ve seen shu’s that have a really dark brew and this doesn’t have that. It’s got a damp wood taste. On the package it says it also has a tobacco taste which to me is not appealing at all. However, it’s not strong and is kind of in the background. Overall, this tea is very smooth with a nice sweetness in each sip. Not quite a sheng and not quite a shu. I have no idea how to rate this tea. I would need to have it quite a few times. Definitely different!
This tastes more like a green than an oolong but I’m not complaining. It’s still delicious. It’s got a rich green asparagus taste to it and nutty sweetness. Nope, not much like an oolong but still an excellent tea. I brewed it in my mug at 190C , the temperature I always used for oolongs. Maybe I should have gone a lower temperature since it’s so close to green tea but it still came out great. I brewed for one minute and it’s perfect.
This tea is so good. I think my favourite from all the monthly teas so far. I’ve done quite a few infusions of it today. It has a nice creamy taste to it. There’s also a bit of fruitiness. Earlier steeps have a faint bitterness in it but it doesn’t detract from the tea at all. I am pretty impressed when such a young sheng has hardly any bitterness and that was only after one quick rinse. That faint bitterness disappears really quick and it’s just creamy and fruity forever. I don’t know what steep I am on now. I think I’ve had far too much tea but it still tastes soooo good.
