I bought a sample of this tea, but I was a bit bummed by how much I actually received. The sample packet stated there would be 6g, but it was actually a little less than 5g. That meant I could only have one session out of this tea rather than two. I guess I should have picked up the 1oz bag instead.

Besides that, this was a tasty tea – smooth, milky, brown sugar and light peach notes. It lingers in the mouth, so it’s worth taking a few minutes between sips to enjoy the aftertaste.

So, I’ve had this one twice now. It’s very bread-y with a nice thickness, and there’s a cocoa element as well, but I’m not getting as much sweetness as I would like. I think if it had a nice honey note, that would make it a great tea. As it is, it lingers on the edge of cocoa bitterness. Maybe it’s delicious with some added sugar, but I’m not doing that with my Chinese black teas anymore. The other black tea I have from them, I believe it’s the ying de black tea, has a lot of honey sweetness…hmmm, I see an experiment mixing the two in my future!

I’ve had the golden tips and the full leaf, but not this one, so I picked up a sample in my last order. The leaves are pretty…dark brown/black with a few golden strands mixed in. The color of the liquor is also a beautiful red color, even in first infusion. It tastes sweet, with subtle notes of malt, cherry, and potato. It reminds me a little bit of Whispering Pines’ Wildcrafted Dian Hong. Maybe I should do a side by side comparison with the rest of my sample. Super smooth, but light in flavor, overall. I wouldn’t mind drinking more of this and I don’t think it’s terribly pricey either. :)

This tea is like drinking pure honey….so much honey! There’s a slight cocoa note, but it’s barely there. It reminds me of Nannuoshan’s Tanyang Gongfu black tea, except that one has more of a balance between the cocoa and honey notes. This one is actually a little too sweet for me, but I like that the honey note is not just sweet, but that all the other characteristics of honey are there. I’m not sure how to explain those other characteristics, except to say it tastes exactly like honey. So if you like honey, definitely check this tea out! The leaf is nice and large too, similar to some Taiwanese black teas I’ve had. Pretty nice quality, and I’m looking forward to trying the other two black teas I ordered.

Of the three sheng in the sampler I ordered, this was my favorite. The other two were a bit too light for my tastes. This one was full of flavor, like a juicy, well-rounded apricot from the beginning of the session and lasting throughout. It had a bit more thickness to it also. The only thing that was disappointing for me was that it didn’t change much throughout the session. I think it would have been more interesting if it had started differently and then developed into this juicy apricot flavor after a few steeps.

So, I guess this is Wymm’s signature tea? I ordered a sample, and it seems like it’s included in each of the sample packs you can choose from. I had a nice afternoon session with it. It’s sweet up front, and continues to be sweet as long as you do short steeps. I also noted some butter and hay notes and some bitterness in the finish. It has low to medium thickness. It was good, but nothing stood out to me. I think overall, it’s kind of light for my tastes. Good quality though.

Yum! I just got some samples in the mail today and decided to try this one out tonight. Felt like some shou, and it’s been awhile, due to the heat. The leaf is so fresh looking even though it’s a 2008 shou. Once brewed up, it smelled fabulous! Sweet and a touch fruity. I steeped it a few times, about 20s in the first couple steeps, then longer. It’s silky in texture, nice reddish brown in color, and tastes like sweet dates. So good! Definitely on my wishlist!

This was another free sample in my last order. I would never have picked this out for myself as I am not big on floral teas. It’s really delicious though. Silky, like the texture of rose petals, as well as the fragrance, is in the tea. I think the rose also adds a sweetness to it. It’s definitely floral, but the other characteristics make it enjoyable for me. It’s also really pretty. ;)

I got this as a free sample in my last order. I didn’t specify which samples I wanted, and Tea Ave was awesome in selecting only one repeat, even though I’ve had a lot of their teas!

As usual, Tea Ave never disappoints! This is a silky, milky, fresh oolong. Love it!

I had my first session with the ’shroom yesterday. I love the shape and the wrapper. I totally played Super Mario growing up. So fun!

I was eating apricots before I drank the first infusion, and the first sips of the tea totally made me salivate, making my mouth flood with juice. It was also a bit smoky. In the second steep, I noticed a spinach note that continued throughout my session. I’m not a huge fan of that note…as you probably have noticed I don’t drink much green tea, which tends to taste like spinach….but it didn’t bother me. There was a really nice thick, silky mouthfeel, especially in earlier infusions that kind of stole the show. I drank a lot of infusions. I totally thought I was going to stop until the next day, but after a break with some snacks, I returned to the tea to find it sweeten up nicely. I definitely felt a caffeine energy from this tea, but it didn’t kill my stomach, which is a plus! Overall, it’s a good tea, which is good, because I have 250g of it!
