I had this back when I was sick last week and had lost my ability to taste anything. It was ok, but not great. I wanted to give this fair shot so I tried it again this afternoon. It was pretty good. Nice smooth caramel flavor. But I didn’t taste the burnt sugar I want from creme brulee. Its definitely good caramel tea. But I won’t be re-ordering as I prefer the salted caramel from david’s.

I love cinnamon. And good cinnamon teas. This tea has a strange cinnamon smell. Doesn’t do it for me, in fact, really turns me off. I tried to drink a few sips, but it wasn’t worth it with all the other yummy teas I have to choose from. I didn’t dump it though. My mom was coming over to watch the kids so I can get some stuff done and I saved it for her. Her first comment, “This smells great.” So as always, to each their own!

After my good experience with the potato pancake and applesauce earlier this evening, I was in the mood to try another fun, one of kind, tea. I got this as a free sample with my order and I wish I hadn’t. I wish I’d ordered a larger bag! I was born with the cilantro gene, so it’s not too surprising that I like this, but I don’t particularly like pineapple so I was a little apprehensive. I don’t really taste the pineapple, just a hint of something sweet or fruity, and then it finishes with the creamy cilantro flavor. Yum! I wish I had a bigger bag, this cup is disappearing quickly!

This is a fun tea. In the description she suggests adding salt to bring out the potato flavor or sugar to bring out the apple. So I made a pot and poured it into 3 smaller cups. Added a slight bit of rock sugar to one, slight bit of fleur de sel to one, and left one alone. I tasted the plain one and was really intrigued, but wanted it either saltier or sweeter. So I tried the salted one, loved the potato flavor but wanted to still taste the apple, which kind of went away. Tried the sweetened one. Good, but was missing the potato. So… I took all 3 cups mixed them all together. Both sugar and salt in the mix. I like it the best. I’m not sure how often I’ll have this, but I can see craving this every so often.

Glad you think this is a fun tea! I’ve been kind of drinking it almost as a sweet broth and was thinking about adding some cooked noodles to see how it tastes.

TastyBrew

Funny, the broth thought was in my head during my last few sips, especially with the slight saltiness. I bet some noodles would actually be pretty good. I’m partial to udon noodles, but they’re probably too heavy. What were you thinking?

Butiki Teas

Oooh, I love me some udon noodles. Yum! I was thinking of some thin rice noodles but would definitely be open to suggestions.

It’s not just a tea… It’s a meal! lol

I’m not sure what I expected from this, but it’s not really doing anything for me, good or bad. Just an ok cup of tea. I won’t dump it out or anything, but I probably won’t make it again, prefer something with a little more going on.

I’m very pleasantly surprised by this! It has an incredibly smooth cinnamon flavor. I wouldn’t really put this in the same category as masala chais, more of just a really good cinnamon tea. The craziest thing of all is that i normally put honey and frothed milk in nearly all flavored black teas, when i took a sip of this one, I liked it totally unaltered. I’m definitely keeping this one. Anytime I can find a tasty black tea that I can enjoy without the added calories, i’m stoked.

I bought this one almost a year ago when I first started getting into tea because it was super highly reviewed over on Teaviews and someone called it like a “condensed milk” oolong. Well I had no idea what that meant and made some expecting something VERY different and was highly disappointed. After that I steered clear of oolongs.

I decided to revisit this tea now that I know a little more about tea and my expectations were much more in line.

I’m really glad I did. This tea is crazy good. I’m not going to get into my steeping play by play, but each additional one (4 in total) yielded a super buttery, creamy, almost roasty, treat. I would compare the butter flavor to that of snyder’s butter pretzels. And that’s a good thing. I could drink this all day. Especially when I’m craving a butter. The price tag is a bit stiff, but considering how much tea you get out of one or two teaspoons, it’s worth it (I tell myself….)

Anyway, yum.

I really want some Snyder’s butter pretzels now…
Yum.
The price of this one has kept me away for now. I just can’t justify it yet. Maybe when they have another sale I can pick some up.

Backlog from last night.

The flu has finally started to subside, only to leave a sinus infection and eye infection in its stead. At least those can be treated! Unfortunately, I needed to appear human for 1.5 hours last night. Enter the Killers Vanilla…

My big kid had her opening night for her middle school play that she has spent the last 3 months rehearsing for on Thursday night. I didn’t stand a chance of making it to that one and was pretty sad to miss it. “I’ll hit it tomorrow night,” I thought. Nope. Then saturday rolled around, my last chance. I wasn’t going to miss it.

I brewed up some killer’s vanilla in hopes of a strong caffeine kick without the jitters. I haven’t had much guayusa before but was hopeful it would do the trick. I can’t say that absolutely love the flavor of guayusa, it’s a little too flowery or something for me, I don’t know, but the flavors mixed in (mint, lavender, & vanilla) give it a smooth, calming herbal tea profile. Kind of a funny combo with high caffeine drink! It was absolutely the perfect choice for the night.

I was wide awake and seemingly human. I waited until the theater darkened, then ran in from the car and sat in the back corner with no one around me. Enjoyed a pretty well done middle school musical, voice cracks and all.

This will definitely be my go to drink when I need a calm pick me up, which will be happening frequently over the next week I’m sure.

I have this one as sample, need to try it.
Happy you had the chance to see your daughter school play

So I’ve had about 20 cups of tea in the last 4 days. I couldn’t write a note on any of them because they pretty much all tasted like hot water with an essence of tea. I got the friggin flu. I still have it. It sucks! It’s like the worst cold in history plus the added benefit of chills and body aches. Awesome.

Anyway, my only method of staying hydrated has been tea. And I’ve had a ton. But like I said, I haven’t been able to taste it. Until last night.

I have no idea if this tea is nearly as good as I thought it was, but I could taste it, and it tasted amazing. Maybe it’s the high fever or simply the desire to taste something so badly, or that it really is good. Regardless, I enjoyed it. Immensly. I love genmai cha. I love chai. But it really sounds like a strange combo, but I’m not turned off by strange, so I bought it. It is so perfectly roasty & toasty and even a smidge salty, but really spicy as well. I guzzled it down and immediately made some more.

I’ll have to try it again whenever this flu finally goes away. Hopefully that’s not as far off as everyone says. Assuming I have any left by the end it.

I’m slowly making my way through all the Butiki Teas I received on Friday. This is the 4th and my least favorite so far. Not to say it is bad by any means. It’s a very drinkable, not bitter, green tea. Maybe I have a cold or something, but I’m not getting any pistachio out of it. It just tastes like green tea. My palate for green tea hasn’t developed too much so plain green tea isn’t my first choice. But this one is good. I probably won’t keep it stocked though.

the flavour is more present when the tea is cooling. Too hot the BT teas are less tasty IMO.

I love tea. And I love beer. I spent my twenties thoroughly enjoying all that beer has to offer but now that I’m into my thirties and a stay at home mom of 2 little kids and 1 big kid, I spend more time enjoying tea.

I joined steepster in Feb 2013 and it’s crazy how much my tastes have changed since joining. Before, I liked cream and honey in all teas and loved mostly dessert blacks. Now I almost rarely drink them, but enjoy them from time to time. What I love more than anything are straight rich black teas, Fujian, Laoshan, Rizhao, etc… I also love pretty much any black tea that the little leaf hoppers have gotten their teeth on.

I’m still not too into the green/white/oolong varieties. I keep trying to but my tastes are evolving pretty slowly on that front.

Overall, I just enjoy tea. Something about it that just settles me.
