15049 Tasting Notes
sipdown and backlog from yesterday. I made a little more headway in my goal yesterday but then painting caught up with me and we were far too hot and gross to want to stay in the house after so we went to the movies, thus foiling my plans to get to 100 in my fake cupboard lol
I had this one yesterday for something light and refreshing :) I have thoroughly enjoyed this one and will likely be picking it up again in the future heh
This one is nice! I should have grabbed some during the Secret Surprise Butiki sale!
Today I’m hoping to accomplish Great Things on the painting front!
There is something about this tea that reminds me of “red rose.” I picked this one up on a whim when i was in Chicago just to see how one of their assams might taste. The instructions say 5mins brewing, but i have yet to try this @ 5 mins. I can’t imagine how this would taste at 5 mins. At 3 it’s a little strong and edging towards bitter. I’ll be sharing this with a few people though just to see if maybe there will be love for this one at someone else’s hands.
Preparation
I won’t finish this up for July 1 but I am only 1 or 2 more sessions away from a sipdown with this one – the oldest tea in my cupboard (oct 2013) ignoring puerhs heh. I am a fan of this one and it’s because of teas like this and others that i’ll continue to pick up teas from TTC to try out. :)
Holy moley – Oct is your oldest teas? I’m jealous! I have my 3 Justea tins to drink from August, and a bit of matcha from September before I even worry about Black Friday sipdowns!
Wooo! congrats!
SIPDOWN! i feel like i get to celebrate when it’s not a sample sipdown because man i have soooo many of those lol. Last day to try and hit my goal, which i won’t but at least my fake cupboard will be pretty close :) I have stuck myself on buying hiatus after today until i get back on track from all our house puchases (paint, couch, chair) and until my cupboard goal is met. Soooo if i’m going to splurge, today is the day hahaha.
This was from Terri, and there’s not much else to say about it that hasn’t been said already. Really like this one – the honey, malty notes in it are neat and it’s a good cup of smooth tea. :)
Tea and Card travelling teabox
I wanted to revisit this one as i had it way back when i was first really trying to figure out what i liked and what i didn’t. Dropping the rating on this a few points because after trying so many varieties of black teas in the past year (or two) this one lacks the bolder flavour that i like. This is nice, it’s got a little astringency to it that i don’t mind and overall it’s not a bad cup, i’ve just had better than i love more :)
oh man… cold brewed this today and i am in love. I’m going to have to make more of this for tomorrow when we’re trying to run around and paint and such. Really just a great blend. I’m glad that i was introduced to this blend and then able to purchase more :) mmmmm honey dew…. so much love for this tea.
Final Count: 169 [ Fake Cupboard at 109 teas with 60 Samples]
Get one of these! I used one recently, and WOW it did such a great job. I think it was $5 at home depot, and we washed it and dried it between paint colours instead of using new fuzzy bits.

Why did I not know that existed?? I just used a regular paint brush and was painting the bathroom. So. Many. Edges. That looks like it would work so much better!
another tea this evening – verdict is that i like this more hot than cold. There’s still not enough ginger in this for my liking, but the pear flavour isn’t half bad. Maybe they should just call this pear tea :) Another green rooibos blend which i can get behind, though i don’t mind red rooibos :)
Cards and Tea travelling teabox
I pulled this one out because i have no chamomile teas in my cupboard at the moment. I was also intrigued by the use of the world “honey” since i typically add honey to my sleepytime teas :) this smells like honey upon brewing it, and the first sips are distinctively chamomile and honey. I like that this is also green rooibos and not red. this was nice to try, though i think if it was a regular in my cupboard, i’d drink it with just a little lemon added to really get that honey, lemon flavour out of it :)
I’m trying to decide whether to bite the bullet and order from Mandala again this weekend. I REALLY don’t have a lot of money to burn these days and i have lots of puerh sitting in my cupboard that needs to be drunk up, but it’s SUCH a good sale. In an effort to convince myself NOT to buy more tea lol I figured i should try this one as Garrett passed it along as a sample in my most recent order.
I’ve been drinking a few steeps of this while i pray for the house to cool down. It’s going to be necessary to cool off under a hose or in the shower soon at this rate! Note, that my gaiwan is still packed up, so i’ve been steeping this psuedo gongfu style using short steeps but in my brew basket heh.
This is a young puerh. I feel like the tastes aren’t quiet fully formed, but there is the hint of what’s to come as this ages. This is, as i’ve come to expect from Mandala, a smooth brew. it’s not an earthy puerh – there are echoes of cedar? leather? Not sure…clearly i’ve been neglecting my puerh for too long and i’ve forgotten what sort of tastes are there lol On the whole though, I am looking forward to possibly ordering some of this and letting is sit for a while. I think it’ll be a really nice blend in the future.
Glad you did cavo. Was going to give you the other half of my sample but I owe Terri some NOT FLAVOURED tea lol
I want to order too. The sale is fabulous. And I’m thinking if I should add some cakes as well. I liked Autumn Song a lot. Temple Staires is nice but too mellow for me. I need a punch in a face…
Sorry Steph, I need help myself. I also have a coupon fr them on reg price until 7/15 so I need to decide right now what else to get in one order. I’m trying now 2010 nun jian golden buds sample fr Mandala. It is so good…
