15061 Tasting Notes
Shhhhhh…..I asked my other half to pick up a little bit of this one on the weekend when I wasn’t feeling well…clearly my wits were addled by being sick :) brewed this hot tonight and as it cooled down enough to drink it turned in to a deliciously tart sort of tea with a bit of sweetness. Th coconut wasn’t overly intense thankfully, though I can see this bring too much if you got a lot of coconut in one tsp. still though, glad to have it and try it.
Final count: 209
VariTea sent this my way and it was off my wish list (at least I think it was V…if it was RS, apologies!) I had high hopes for this one but sadly all I’m getting is toffee flavoured wood. Bah. This is the sort of rooibos that I’m. It a fan of unless it’s spectacularly blended so a a not to be all, hey sil…go lick a tree for this taste :) oh well…good to know and be able to cross off my list. Hehe
This one WAS from RS – checked this morning…so if there’s more in the here’re from V, then I haven’t come across it yet lol
sooo i pretty much begged variaTEA to send me some of this..CONVINCED that i was somehow making the biggest mistake ever in not ordering some for myself because i actually really liked marshmallow genmaicha from frank, until the reblend sucked.
….turns out. not a huge loss. there is something artificial tasting about this one that i don’t like – it’s not the strawberry i love from walter bishop…or maybe it IS but when combined with the marshamallow turns weirdly strange. sigh i was so excited about this one. appreciate the share VariaTEA…just not the tea for me…which in some respects is maybe a good thing heh
another tea from variaTEA….i’m still hoping i can get to 200 teas before next weekend rolls around…god that’s a lot of tea to drink before july 1st haha.
this is a pretty average genmaicha to me. there’s nothing to set it apart from the others i’ve had but nothing to make it a terrible tea either.it’s a middle of the road sort of genmaicha which means a pleasant cup to drink but nothing i need to go out of my way to drink more of :)
VariaTEA sent me a few of these blooming teas from David’s to try out. Now, my experience to date with blooming teas is that they are largely for the visual senses, with the teas being weaker than i prefer. they’ve also all been green teas, and the ones she sent are black. I opted to treat this as a cold brew for fun and it turns out, that was the right approach for me. this is a nice lighlty flavoured strawberry tea that is pleasant to drink. I cut the water in half and it’s been steeping for longer than the 10 minutes…but it’s gone from being a floating poop of tea, to a nice bloom :) with a decent strawberry brew haha. thanks for sharing variatea!
When my sister and I were little, my dad used to tell us that water towers were full of rabbit turds. Just a random fact.
I have never thought about cold brewing these. Might be something I need to try out. Also, I am glad this was a better experience than some of the other bloom teas you’ve tried.
I was actually a big fan of all the DT blooms VariaTEA sent my way as well; I thought they were all very pretty (and identical) and tasted better than nearly every other bloom I’ve ever had – but maybe that’s ‘cause they’re black :P Did she send you Lychee? That one was good.
another one from boychik and the mildest tea of t he bunch. I haven’t tried the lapsang, but i’m sure it will be a deeper tea than this one hahaha. I enjoyed this one prenap as well, which means it’s a distant memory for me. that being said, it was an enjoyable cup that i ended up gulping down while trying to refrain from talking too much on work calls.
the downside of being sick si that sometimes you fall asleep between cups of tea before logging them. soo forgive the crappy notes. I brewed this one up with the bai liu and i think this one was my preferred tea. i seem to recall chocolate/cocoa-y notes in this one and a deeper flavour that i really enjoyed. im’ glad i’m having such good experiences with these teas :) thanks again boychik!
haha yeah…i’d have to price them out and see where they fall in terms of some of my favourites from a value perspective but i can see rotating these in to my cupboard now and then a possibility. they’re quite enjoyable and slightly different than the other teas i’ve been drinking recently.
if some sale would come all of a sudden, i wouldnt think twice. And you saw my cupboard(shhh not everything logged, found 2 boxes of unaccounted Verdant and samples, and swaps, and care packages(mostly shu or sheng))
agreed haha. i have a tea mule that i can send things to as well, so i don’t have to rely on canadian distribution lol
I’m happy to read you’ve been enjoying these teas. We actually just finished transferring the #3 to tea sachets (now called T1) and are getting set to replace the old #3 with another tea. I hope this doesn’t offend anyone’s sensibilities, but we found people were really enjoying this tea and that it worked in a tea sachet. Wanting a couple of options for cafes and restaurants, we decided this tea was most suitable for the dreaded tea sachet. If and when you are ready to order more tea, contact me and I’ll work out a deal for you and help figure out how to ship the teas to you. Thanks again, Cheers, Joe
What are you replacing it with , Mr. Wesley and should I get more of #3 ( I have nothing left) I don’t want sachets. Any promo ?
Boychik – because you asked, we’ll give you 25% off #3 until we run out (we have 9 canisters left – at least the last time I looked a day or two ago). Free shipping still applies to all orders over $40 (unless you’re ordering from Canada, in which case we’ll figure something out and I’ll get your teas sent from Windsor).
Simply type SayNoToBags when you checkout (there should be a prompt for a discount code). Feel free to pass along this discount code to anyone who might be interested. Thanks again, Joe
thank you Angel of teavivre for sending me this tea. As most of you know, greens are not my go to tea. That being said, these teas from angel are almost enough to make me want to change my mind. :) This is a fabulous dragon well. it’s tangy and very much GREEN but without that overly vegetal taste that i dislike. there’s a buttery sweetness to this as well that i am loving! i drank more than a few cups of this today. I may need to see if a joint order is possible since i DO love these teas but i can’t get through a 100g bag fast enough to keep the freshness!
I would definitely be up for that! I’ve heard so many good things about Teavivre but I haven’t tried anything from there yet. I don’t know which teas you’re interested in but I think I’d be willing to trust your judgment. :P
(I told you before Sil…me think you are slowly leaving Dexter behind and joining forces with me to the “green side”, muahahaha!!!)
cameron – have to wait a while before i can pick up more teas sadly, but i’ll keep you in mind. heh teavivre has some incredible teas, and it seems like i am loving their green teas when it’s their blacks that are one of my go to places.
I’m with you guys on the dark side….haha. But so far I’ve actually enjoyed the green tea from Teavivre!
to be fair i do like green teas, i just don’t crave them like i do black teas…so if i buy too many of them, they end up losing their freshness…which is part of my operation to get to within 6 months of tea purchases…
thank you roswell strange and VariaTEA for sending this my way. I have to say, i never expect much from Frank’s teas anymore as they still remain largely inconsistent the times when i do get them. This one though? not too shabby – though it of course is ridiculously expensive if you consider it’s only 1oz for the same price as others. I am getting a really nice pineapple flavour out of this one, though there’s a hint of spices that i’m guessing make up the cake part of this. That being said though, in the grand scheme of things, i’m thinking i might prefer just a straight up pineapple tea…a la butki. Not bad though, and certainly better than some of the 52 teas that i’ve had :) thanks for sharing ladies!
the lovely boychik sent this my way and i’m ever so glad that she did. I’ve been wanting to try the Joseph teas for a while now, given the rave reviews but could hardly justify the ridiculous shipping for samples. I’d rather get a chance to try a few and then place a real order via my tea mule.
I’m also glad that i brewed this one along side that gross david’s tea since THIS is such a lovelier cup of tea. There is a hint of astringency to this one but nothing that would interfere with the pleasure of drinking this. it’s got a nice malt feel too it, though i wouldn’t call it an overly malty tea. there is some sweetness here that reminds me of peach but isn’t peach…just a really nice tea.
yes..working from home.. and by working i mean attending meetings and doing what i can to not get too far behind while sitting on the couch and in the bed relaxing as much as possible.
Sil, happy to read that you enjoyed the tea. We’ve been working with a cafe in Windsor who can ship our teas within Canada for a much more reasonable rate than I can). If you are interested in trying our teas, contact me and I’ll put you in contact with the great people over at Anchor Coffee House (info@josephwesleytea.com) — as a reminder, for those in the US we have free shipping for all orders over $40. cheers, Joe
i hope you feel better by now. Staying home and drinking tea and chicken soup are a must.
Im really glad you liked the tea. Sorry i couldnt share more. i finished all the JW teas i got on NYC tea fest. i have to place an order by Sept., i really hope to get my cupboard somewhat manageable during the summer. these teas are definite restock.
Joe – thanks for that, sounds great. And no issues with the shipping thresholds as a general rule, just tough to swallow when i haven’t tried your teas. But now that i have thanks to boychik, an order is likely imminent haha (once i get things under cupboard control!)
Boychik – appreciate what you could spare… so happy to be able to try these!
Anytime you want to sample something fr my cupboard do not hesitate haha Just found 2 boxes of Verdant teas in my closet from last summer… Why is it there, dont ask. have no answer…
you are right TheTeaFairy, i hide it fr my family. i just got a package fr Amazon with shampoo and my dd asked me if its a tea. She said, “Are you sure?” …lol
boychik – i know how that goes… you send me lots of teas to try thereby reducing YOUR cupboard…and don’t let me send you anything!
Haha. Silly, sick Sil.
Still that wasn’t an instant I hate it! I’m intrigued!
It’s not bad…I have the last of it cold brewing as well….I prefer others but it wasn’t too bad
