10916 Tasting Notes

I’m apparently too exhausted to be tea logging tonight. Nt going to rate this because I think there are those who would really enjoy this blend. It’s got a lot going on and appeals to me…until I drink it. I do love this more than the non winter version though. :) still enough for me to do another run through of the tea another night when I’m more alert and can really get some thoughts down…mostly it just comes across as being too…..floral? Or something for my preferences. But way better than normal 8 treasures heh

Bonnie

I liked this only with honey plain or as a base adding black tea (Laoshan Black) and with a little puerh nugget kind of like the breakfast summer blend idea. It was really good.

Sil

Mmmmm ill have to try that Bonnie. I love me some laoshan black heh :)

drank Black Cherry Matcha by Matcha Outlet

nomnomnomnomnom yeah… this was the right choice this morning! I was almost going to go with a nice strong mocha smoothie but decided last minute to go with black cherry for that happy funshine fruit thing! Long day ahead of me so i’ll need my energy. HAPPY MONDAY WORLD!

Nik

“funshine” – I love this. =)

Helena

Black Cherry is yummy! :D

drank Chai by Red Blossom Tea Company
10916 tasting notes

Holy sneezes and running nose this morning! I’m not sick but it’s almost like i’m allergic (probably to work). Finished a glorious weekend of working all weekend and now it’s back to the grind. Looking forward to getting back to the gym tonight though so that’s something. I picked this tea today because while it’s a nice chai – there’s a hint of citrus going on with it that vaguely reminds me of mulled spiced apple cider. I’m hoping this, with my morning smoothie will help jump start my day.

Nik

I’m so jealous. I wish I could look forward to working out. Blech. Gimme a couch on which to potato any day. =)

Sil

Nik – i’m with you there. Sadly I was on an uphill/unhealthy eating/not getting exercise swing and made a change last january in terms of eating better. That helped a bunch and for the past few months we’re now working on the getting exercise thing. I carry most of my tension and stress in my neck/back so i’ve found this is really helping to counteract that. It’s always a struggle to get there, but i know by the end of it i’m usually happy that i’ve gone..even if it’s just for 30 mins.

drank Strawberry Zabaglione by 52teas
10916 tasting notes

Ok azzrian! I think I have this one figured out. Bumping the rating up on this one now that I’ve gotten the hang of it. NOW I can taste the creaminess with the strawberry. Sooo note to self, revisit all my 52 teas and brew them for less time :) guess I should have tried that earlier but I guess i just wasn’t thinking. This, this is pretty darn good now :)

Helena

sometimes all it takes is an adjustment to time or temp :D Glad you like it more now :D

Indigobloom

good to know! I’ve had trouble with this one as well. Tastes… burnt?

Sil

Yeah, drop the steeping time down to about2 mins and the temp as well just a bit. Now it’s creamier and no burnt. I still illite strawberry pie and blueberry zabaglione better but this is much more drinkable now lol :)

Indigobloom

oh good. I’ve been hesitant to try it again. Now I will!

Sil

i did the same thing with my caramel cheesecake and the pumpkin cheesecake and it’s back to being as yummy as it was when i first got them. I think frank’s black base just needs less time in the water. :)

Indigobloom

That makes sense. Graveyard mist is a green but still needs less time now that it’s gelled

Kittenna

Are you going with 2 minutes for most of his blacks now? I had been going with 3 recently, which had been ok, but then I had a run of bad bitterness/astringency which made me annoyed. I don’t want to lose flavour by brewing too short a time, but I definitely don’t want a bitter or astringent tea!

Sil

Kit – pretty much yeah. 2-2.5 max seems to be the sweet spot, making everything back to being the wonderful that i remember when i first got it.

drank Caramel Cheesecake Black Tea by 52teas

Mmmmmm…. Chocolate chip toffee cookies fresh from oven with a cup of this. Delicious! Steeped for 2 mins saves the astringency from coming out. Now it’s just a great cup of caramel wonder.

drank Maple Pecan Oolong by Butiki Teas
10916 tasting notes

Talking about this tonight made me bust out this tea and make some. As the only oolong I’ve liked thus far on my tea journey, adding the maple just kicked it out of the park. I LOVE the maple AND pecan taste that Stacy has captured. This is a fantastically wonderful fall tea. Oh yes….yes yes and yes!

drank Laoshan Genmaicha by Verdant Tea
10916 tasting notes

Sipdown!

It was just a sample size because i’m trying to curb my tea spending but i was really glad to taste this one, so much so that I’m thinking of buying this (or whatever version verdant has) again. I just really love the flavours. I’m not a big green tea fan but this..this i would drink again and again. Bumped the rating up again :)

drank Mandarin Rooibos by Mark T. Wendell
10916 tasting notes

So this tea, cold brewed? DELICIOUS! Sadly this is also a sipdown but this is a really enjoyable cold brewed tea. I’ll have to look into getting another similar rooibos sometime for those hot summer days. But for now this is just a great refreshing cold brew – with just a splash of sweetner to bring out the orange :)

Nik

Two of my favourite flavours! And I discovered from Della Terra’s Mayan Mist that they actually go great together, so I’m going to need to try this one. :D

Sil

on a side note.. i totally added some PAMA liquer to this one.. soooo good lol

Nik

Interesting, I’ve never tried that. As much as I love pomegranates, I haven’t yet found anything pomegranate-flavoured that tastes quite right. (And I really wish I would, because they’re such a pain to eat.)

Sil

seriously.. biggest fruit pain in the ass! To be honest it’s been so long since i’ve had real pomagrante i couldn’t tell you if it’s similar. I just love that liqueur. First had it at epcot in “france” pama + champagne! sooo yummy :)

Bio

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling as well!

Most of that is on hold these days though, including tea drinking like I used to as I have a new little one who eats up all my spare time.
