2967 Tasting Notes

It’s an odd Christmas. My mother and I were supposed to be in NYC with my brother, but for health reasons we had to cancel at the last minute. That means we didn’t do any decorating or anything here at home, as we were not expecting to be here.
So it’s not exactly feeling merry, in my part of the world, so it’s time to drink the holiday teas.
I picked this one up and saved it for December, for obvious reasons. It’s a Wonderful Life is a special movie to me, as I played Mary in a stage production a few years ago, which was a lovely experience.
Happy Holidays, and a Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it!

Evol Ving Ness

Cool! That must have been somewhat transformative, even if temporarily so.

Happy Christmas to you, Rosehips. We have missed you.

Crowkettle

Merry Christmas, Rosehips! It’s a Wonderful Life is a good pick <3

derk

Merry Christmas :)

gmathis

May some “merry” sneak up on you from behind when you’re not looking. Hugs to you!

I’ve had a few cups of this so far, and it is a very delicate lavender tea. This is very good, as sometimes lavender blends can taste of soap, but this one does not.
This one tastes more like currant tea, with a hint of lavender, and I really like that!

So I was involved in a Yarn and Tea Swap. I was paired with a swap partner across the country, and we sent each other some tea and some yarn and a few other holiday treats. I know she got hers (I sent local yarn and local tea), and my package arrived today, which is lovely.
She sent me an entire advent from Pukka, which is lovely! A new tea every day, and as I didn’t get a tea advent this year, this excites me.
The first tea in it was this “Feel New”, which was a very delicate brew. It tasted mostly of the fennel, so it was very herb-y.
I have a few cups to catch up, but I’m excited to have a little treat this month!

Cameron B.

Aww that’s so sweet! I thought about trying Pukka’s advent, but I have too many already heh heh…

gmathis

Remind me … knit or crochet?

Rosehips

I’m a knitter!

Thank you all so much for your encouragement of my Nanowrimo story! Its a steampunk (but steampunk in the 20’s/30’s- deco punk?) story, and I really enjoyed writing it.
Nanowrimo tells me that this is the 9th year I’ve won the project. I find it a really useful writing tool!
I picked up this tea recently at a local honey festival. It smells devine, but in the way of many caramel teas I have encountered, it tastes rather “thinner” than it smells. I’ll play with the steep time next!

Evol Ving Ness

Nine years! Teafriend, you are a superstar! Well done!

Crowkettle

That’s dedication! Awesome. Also intrigued about “deco punk”.

Roswell Strange

I vote on “Flapper Punk” for what it’s worth ;)

Rosehips

THank you all! And “Flapper Punk” is a cool name!

Ahhh, last day of Nanowrimo! And I have work! Ahhh!
Time for tea.

teepland

Ooh, what are you writing? A novel, obviously, but what genre? I’m curious to know!

ashmanra

I also would love to know!

Evol Ving Ness

Also, good for you, Rosehips, for embarking on this challenge. I’ve considered it, but it seems so daunting.

Rosehips

Thank you all! It was a steampunk story, and I enjoyed writing it a lot!

ashmanra

So all the way finished? I am impressed! That’s amazing.

Crowkettle

Congratulations! That’s an intense challenge (never enough steampunk).

tea-sipper

steampunk! I have been trying to read a bit more HG Wells and Jules Verne before I dive into steampunk. haha

To my fellow State-side tea drinkers, Happy Thanksgiving.
I’m having a slow morning, letting myself cuddle up with a cup of this tea, thinking about how much this year has show me how much I have to be thankful for.
The year has been painful and disorienting, but I am rich in friends, near and far, and the joys of my life are real and good. I am fortunate, and so glad.
And thank you, my Steepster friends, for all your love and care of me this year. We may never have met, I may not know what you look like, but I raise my cup of tea in salute to you and your friendship.
Thank you.

Martin Bednář

Raising my cup to you as well!

Evol Ving Ness

And me too! Happy Day of Thanks to you!

ashmanra

Ah, yes, so thankful for each and every one of you! Hugs to you, Rosehips, and a special prayer this momring. <3

It’s been a long week- work is crazy, I’m doing Nanowrimo, I’m in a film class, and my friends are all reaching out for conversations this week, which is lovely, but eats time.
I’m dragging in a serious way.
And I understeeped this- so it’s a watery cup.
Gonna be a long day.
In other, not whiney news, I’m feeling the desire for a lot of holiday teas this year. Does anyone have recommendations? I’m open to just about anything- I always like peppermint teas, but I’m open for gingerbread, nutcrackers, or other holiday flavors. Whats your favorite winter seasonal tea?

Sakura Sushi

Lupicia White Christmas – just bought 150g of it, since it’s only available seasonally. I love this stuff – tastes like yummy baked goods. Heaven!

Cameron B.

I love White Christmas too! It’s like a better version of their Cookie IMO. I also love the Steven Smith Teamaker teas I got last year, especially the Ho-Ho-Hojichai. :)

gmathis

I’m not a huge Stash fan, but I do like their Christmas in Paris: chocolate with lavender and mint.

Lexie Aleah

Republic Of Tea has a Mrs. Patmore’s Pudding Tea. That one was always a comforting blend for me.

Cameron B.

Oh, I forgot to mention I love Dammann’s holiday teas! But a lot of them are nontraditional.

gmathis

Mrs. Patmore’s is very nice with a little milk!

ashmanra

Fete de Versailles is nice if you can get your your hands on Nina’s of Paris. And I have ordered both White Christmas AND Cookie, bot realizing they were similar, but I am still pretty excited about both!

tea-sipper

Simpson & Vail has many of those flavors you mentioned! And Bird & blend always has some tasty holiday flavors.

There are things, now, that make me realize that I’m an adult.
Well, mostly.
For example, in the last few years I’ve discovered I’m not the biggest fan of three day weekends, because that mean a four day work week. I swear you do five days of work in a four day work week.
The current thing that I’m unleashing my inner curmudgeon on is daylight savings time. It unnerves me- my body feels like it’s in the wrong time, I’m hungry when it’s not lunch time, I need to reset all my clocks, and I have trouble sleeping all the way through the night, as my body is convinced that we are very! very! late!
Grumble.
So I nurse my sour mood with a tea I really enjoy.
It’s gonna be a long day. I will need tea to come to my aid!

gmathis

I’m a DST hater as well, but most of my hate is unleashed in the spring. I need more light in the a.m. to function properly. Hope the eyes are staying open!

ashmanra

I don’t hate DST by itself, I hate the changing! If they just left it on DST all the time, I would be equally content. I think.

Evol Ving Ness

A question about Boston—do you drink it black or with additions? If so, which? I am determined to find a way to love this tea. Help!

ashmanra

I drink it plain!

Rosehips

I drink it black!

Happy Halloween, tea friends!
Today I have had several cups of Boston, which I feel is my autumnal tea. (yes, I buy the huge bags of it. They’re like amazing, tea-stuffed pillows. It’s only by sheer force of will that I do not sleep on them, to dream beautiful dreams).
It’s finally feeling like fall, colder and with the trees turning splendid colors.
Ahh. Yes. This is the time!

Ooof. Could things slow down, please! Yikes. Work has been busy, and I’ve had so many things to do on the weekends, and in my evenings, so I’m dragging a bit.
But, today, there is a little bit of rain, and I have a big mug of this tea, and am feeling much more centered.

gmathis

Friend, I hope you’re buying your TOL by the 5-pound bag ;)

gmathis

(Actually, I’m just imagining what a 5-pound bag would smell like…yum!)

ashmanra

I just imagined sitting in a barrel of ToL and it was quite heavenly.

gmathis

I love tea! I confess that I was a hot chocolate lover for most of my life, but recently a switch has gone off in my brain, and suggested that I might just love tea. And I do!
I’m a bit of a novice, but an enthusiastic one, and am happily sipping new varieties all the time.
I love vanilla, fruity, and caramel flavors, and cant wait to try more.
