76 Tasting Notes

I don’t personally like Teavana as a company. They’ve had some very good teas over the years and have discontinued all of my favorites except for this one. No matter how poor their customer service is, or how over-priced some of their teas can be, this Jasmine Oolong is still my desert island tea. This is it. Out of all of the fancy, rare, small batch stuff. This is my favorite tea.

Sorry, the heart wants what it wants.

I’ve been drinking this gongfu for about an hour and I’ve noticed that after the dark chocolate flavors wear off this becomes more and more like a keemun, especially after about 12 or so steepings.

I’m on a green tea kick and this sencha hits the spot. Thanks Stephanie for this. Everything you’ve sent so far has been great.

This tea is very savory with a sweet finish. Not recommended for anyone who isn’t a serious green fan.

I love this tea. I’m drinking this tonight and watching Battlestar Galactica. See my previous notes on this tea.

I’m actually having this right now blended with Classic Chai from Teajo and Breakfast Blend from MarketSpice. I don’t think I could handle it on it’s own. The puerh base is fabulous but the caramel flavor is too artificial tasting for me. In this blend, however, it works phenomenally. Especially with a tiny bit of local honey.

So, I have this tisane… and it smells EXACTLY like the Arabic food grocery stores my dad took me to as a kid. That’s great for nostalgia but will all of these savory flavors and smells work as a hot beverage? I’m feeling brave tonight.

So it was explained to me that Ayurvedic tisanes are blended to produce results not for flavor. Armed with that information, it actually tastes better than I was expecting. It’s really not bad. I think this tea would be amazing blended with something vanilla and cinnamon. It is very effective, that’s for sure. I’m gonna drink this again and it’s gonna grow on me. I’ll probably restock when gone.

This tea is very much like a Pai Mu Tan. It even looks like one. The only thing telling me it’s an oolong (besides the label) is the golden colored liquor. It has a very sweet finish. Slightly citrus-y. This might be a regular in my cupboard.

Do you have any idea how stressful it is to file taxes as a self-employed musician? It’s about as difficult as trying to build a Rube Goldberg machine immediately following dental surgery. I’m as stressed out as a cat trying to bury a turd on a marble floor.

Enter Swiss Herbs… (aka liquid valium)

It’s got passionflower, it’s got vervain. With those nerve depressant ingredients it could taste like Swiss ear wax and I’d still be drinking it right now. But guess what? It doesn’t! It tastes awesome! And it’s totally gonna make me drowsy enough to order stuff on Amazon and not remember, so that I get a surprise from myself in the mail in about 5-7 business days. Rejoice!

BTW this tea is almost identical to Teavana’s discontinued Swiss Vervaine Melange.

Hahaha… I feel your pain. I do my taxes myself too. Most of my fellow musician friends go to an accountant, but I say pish! I don’t need no stinkin’ accountant. :)

Thanks Stephanie for including this in the swap.

Aw dammit this is too good. There goes my tea budget.

Stephanie

Glad you like it! I really love all her white tea blends- you must try the Watermelon Xylophone if and when you order. She’ll include a couple of free samples with every order and you can request specific teas, btw :)

This tea smells exactly like this type of pipe tobacco I used to smoke. I like it.

I don’t generally go for flavored teas, unless they are sophisticated and classy like this one. This tea is vanilla and caramel for grown ups. It’s not over powering or artificial-tasting.

I would keep this on hand for blends.

Bio

I’m a professional musician. I tour the country and shake my ass to pay for my tea habit.

I tried a cup of some very good Tieguanyin in 2009. That was it. Tea became my thing.

I love pure teas. I love oolongs with natural orchid aroma, winey keemuns, and most things jasmine. I dislike things that taste artificial.

My tea rating system is mostly arbitrary.

There’s a tea for every occasion and I hate having occasions missing from my tea stash.
