58 Tasting Notes

First I need to thank The Purrfect Cup for this great sample

The smell when you open the bag is absolutely to die for. It has an amazing citrusy punch smell with a nice spicey undertone. It is the most amazing thing I have ever smelled. This is a very good tea for a bagged tea. It has the spice like it says and also has a fruity citrusy flavor. It is a little flat but still a high quality bagged tea.

Thanks Bonnie for the sample

The dry smell is really nice. It is very sweet and smooth smelling. I am catching hints of vanilla and the same doughnutish smell I got from the cornfield tuocha verdant tea is selling.

The wet smell is like the dry smell but the doughyness is amplified. It smells like freshly needed dough mixed with a hint of vanilla extract.

This is a quite good tasting tea. The taste reminds me somewhat of the cornfield tuocha. It has the same bread qualities to it. It is moist and goes down very easily. Overall a nice tea.

This tea house is very pretty. Take a look at the website https://www.kuchatea.com

Insence&Tea

THATS SO AMAZING. I wish there were more chinese style tea houses and tea shops near where I live.

Neat photos! I’d love to visit.

The Rocky Mt. Tea Festival is a few blocks from this tea house at the Dushanbe Tea House all in Boulder. The Tea Spot is located in Boulder and Bhakti Tea, 3rd St. Tea, Boulder Tea, Celestial Seasonings (a-hum), and a couple more…but for the festival vendors come from all over.

Thank you, Bonnie, for the sample :)

Dry smell: This tea smells really nice. It smells very very sweet. It has an unusually vegetal smell for a puerh. It is a moist smell like a fresh forest. I can also smell a little hint of green bean.

Wet smell: This tea smells really great after the first steeping. It still has the extremely sweet smell and vegetal taste. The most prominent smell is still something that reminds me of green snap pea’s

Taste: The taste is kinda funky. It has a sweet taste but also a starchy note and feel. There is a deep woody flavor that tastes like a freshly cut down tree.

EDIT: After 1.5 litres of my red aura cake and a litre of this I’m feeling really calm, happy, and relaxed. I’m assuming this is what people describe as qi. I’m not sure if it’s just this tea or a combination of both

oh the red aura is a great tea. i got 3 different production years of it. i can’t wait to see how it ages.i agree about the star of menghai it will be better in a couple of more years i think.

Bonnie

The cut down tree is probably cedar and the starchy is like a thick feeling like avacado but not that thick pasty. Hard to explain isn’t it. You did well…got to your happy feeling.

Insence&Tea

Yup that sounds exactly what I experienced. It’s so difficult interpreting and passing on all the complexities that a tea has. Hopefully I’m getting better so my reviews can be of use to others

Thank you Bonnie for this fantastic puerh sample!

Dry smell: The dry smell is very woody and, surprise surprise, dry. It doesn’t have a deep wet earth smell but a dry smell resembling bark and cork board. I would describe it as a cooling smell but still very deep. It also has a hint of leafy sweetness, like fall.

Wet smell: It still possesses the leafy sweetness and cooling scents. Nearly all of the cork smell and dryness, however, is gone. There is a fairly large difference between the smell of the dry leaf and wet leaf. It is a nice and light smell.

Taste: The taste is very interesting. It is fairly light but very very sweet compared to other puerhs I’ve tried. The most surprising thing happened on my first sip. The very first flavor that jumped out at me when I tasted this tea is, wait for it, MARSHMALLOW. I don’t know what it is or how else to describe it but every sip I can clearly taste marshmallows. This mixed with the typical puerh flavor makes me think of a night on the beach enjoying smores with my family. I can’t wait for christmas so I can buy some more of this tea!!! :)

Mmmmmarshmallow! I want!

Lucy

I love marshmallow! I almost bought a bag of marshmallow root to add to teas just in case it tasted like marshmallow. Thankfully I asked a clerk prior to buying it if it actually tasted like ‘mallow. Turns out it doesn’t. Shucks. Still searching for a natural ’mallow herb to add to teas =)

Insence&Tea

Ya it was really strange, but the first 5 or so steeping had a nice roasted marshmallow taste. It would be nice to have a marshmallow flavored herb to add to certain teas.

This review is going to be done in my new yixing teapot from teavivre so some of the points I’m making will be about the teapot.

Dry smell: This tea has a very nice dry smell. It has no fishiness. It is lighter and sweeter smelling than various other puerhs I’ve tried. It has a light aroma of wet tree bark and a dough like smell.

Taste: This tea has a nice dry flavor. I can sense a woody flavor and also a wet earthy flavor. It is a lot darker flavor than I expected. Although it is not sweet like it smelled, it has no astringency and is very smooth. I can still taste what I sensed as the doughy smell. It tastes like a cracker. This is a nice smooth Puerh and I’ll be ordering more soon.

Wet smell: The wet smell is a lot like the dry smell, it is just lacking the sweet scent. The pot adds a deep earthy smell

What the pot does: I drank this tea a couple times before I got my yixing pot from my gaiwan. I was somewhat skeptical of how much the yixing would actually affect the flavor but there is a notable difference. It gets rid of the natural sharpness the tea has and flattens it out. I can tell it is absorbing some of the flavor because it is slightly lighter, and I am very excited to see what the pot provides after it is fully seasoned.

Thanks :)

mrmopar

a good tea from the menghai factory. the v93 is a favorite of mine.

Insence&Tea

Mmhmm, it’s really good. I’m excited to see how it progresses in my yixing pot. After a month or so using it I’ll probably do a side by side comparison review with the pot and my gaiwan.

mrmopar

i have these v93s going all the way back to 2007. i liked the 2010 so much i got a 250 gram toucha of it. i do believe you will really enjoy this one.it is a great choice of a pu-erh.

mrmopar

Insence&Tea

It’s not a pain at all, I always appreciate recommendations. And yes I seasoned the pot right after unboxing it.

Hi,
I am depressed as always but laughed at reading this. I have no good wares as yet. Perhaps next year if I am around. This post reminded me that I have some Pu-erh (xingyang 2007 Shu Puerh from Verdant Tea) to get to. I have some Toucha from Tea Vivre to get to as well. The review was a lovely read, if you don’t mind me saying so. I am depressed always since poor and in collection with loans defaulted etc. So the world is not nice place for me. I review tea, not good but I try. Good work/review.

mrmopar

seule a good cuppa always helps me wind down and forget the troubles of the day. i hope you can also do the same. i just forget about it all focus on the warmth and aroma and taste of the tea in my hands.

Dry leaf: This is one of the most fantastic tea I’ve ever smelled. It has a very light oolong smell but has a very sweet, fruity smell. It is almost like a candy or fruit juice extract. It doesn’t have hardly any vegetal smell.

Wet smell: The wet smell is even better. It has the same fruit candy smell with a slight bit of astringency. It has a slightly more vegetal smell.

Taste: This tea is great. The first taste you get is a very sweet taste. If I didn’t know I would swear it had sugar in it. As the liquor moves to the back of your mouth the fruity taste comes out that reminds me of a bed bath and beyond store. It is still very sweet at this point. Next as you start to swallow there is a slightly astringent, vegetal taste. When you swallow there is a smooth feel and long lasting creamy, fruity flavor. This is a fantastic tea and I wish I had ordered more.

First I want to thank natures tea leaf for the sample!!!

Dry leaf: The dry tea leaves are really pretty. They are tightly rolled and filled with light and dark greens. They have a very sweet yet vegetal flavor. They remind me of dark green vegetables mixed with celery and rock sugar.

Wet leaf: The wet leaf is deeeeelicious. It smells so fantastically sweet. It still has dark green vegetal smells but no more celery note. I can still smell something that reminds me of a rock salt. The leaves expand to be very large and full.

Taste: This is a really good tea. It has a nice, sweet, and light taste. It has a lettuce like vegetal taste, but it also has a nice sweetness. It is a lot sweeter than most oolongs I have tried and not nearly as vegetal. I really enjoy this tea and will definitely be ordering more

Preparation
195 °F / 90 °C

Profile

Bio

I’m new to the high quality tea world and eager to get started tasting and enjoying a whole new world of flavor. I’m a high school senior, 18 years old, and have been an avid tea drinker my whole life. Previously I would drink generic tea bags. Recently I have been getting into Gong Fu Cha and loose leaf teas. Not only do I enjoy the flavors, but the ceremony is a nice way to relax and unwind after a hard days work. I aspire to try many different teas and meet others from the tea community. If anyone has any teas they would be willing to send as samples I would be very thankful to you for helping expand my tea knowledge and pallet.
