drank White Silver Tips Pu-erh by Tealux

So this time I tried it with 3g of tea per 250ml (8oz) of water. Honestly, the amount of leaves looks to be almost identical to what I had measured!

The water was a little hotter this time, but the tea is still so delicious. Delicate and sweet, but it definitely has a bit of a rich flavour to it. I should probably get more, as I can see running out and then craving a cup!

I had this today as a tea latte! 1 tsp matcha powder whisked into 1/4 cup of hot water (or so). I got a TONNE of wee bubbles on this, even though I have a weird ball-shaped whisk instead of a bamboo whisk. I then added 12 oz of hot almond milk, sipped, and made a HORRIBLE face!

I definitely prefer my matcha sweetened. It took 2 tsp of sugar to sweeten this to my liking. Wow.

I do like the flavour of this matcha, though. The quality is good, it’s super green in colour, and it’s not one of those anonymous (well, to me) packages of matcha I can get at the local Asian markets that might have been sitting on the shelf for ages. (No really. Some of the matcha I have is almost brown in comparison to how green this stuff is!)

The only thing I’m lacking to make it the perfect latte texture is pectin.

I don’t really know what to think of it. It’s my first white tea ever! Dry, the leaves are a little squishy, and are quite large. The package says 1-2 tsp, but I just estimated as the leaves are too big to measure that way.

It smells really sweet and a little grassy. The flavour is super delicate. I have a feeling I didn’t use enough leaves as I can’t really spoon it out, but then how many grams would I use for a cup?

I do like it as it’s another tea I will drink without any additives (perfect for work!), but would I buy more? I’m not sure. I’ll have to drink more of this (really huge) sample and make some more notes.

TEALYRA

you should use about 3g per cup of 8oz

OMGsrsly

Thanks! Just weighed it out, and it looks to be what I had estimated. Now, to drink tea.

Kittenna

Just a note – I imagine that you figured it out already, but although this is a white tea, it’s also a pu’erh! So probably doesn’t quite taste like a classic, regular white tea (although tbh, I’ve only had about 1 straight white tea in my life, though I should hopefully be fixing that soon!) Anyways, just noting this :D

OMGsrsly

I actually like this one way better than the white teas I’ve tried. Granted, all the white teas I’ve had have been flavoured, but still. This one was so good. I’ve had it a couple times since (without logging) and yum. Delicate, delicious tea.

Kittenna

I think this one is more strongly flavoured than most whites, which is nice. I also like the flavour of this one better than the one straight white tea I have had (Bai Mu Dan). I know I like Silver Needles and such, but haven’t ever had them straight, just in blends (like Butiki’s), where you can actually taste the tea.

OMGsrsly

Most of the flavored teas I’ve had have been bai mu dan, which I did not care for. I’ll have to check out Butiki’s white blends! I’m planning a birthday-money-order from them.

Kittenna

Yeah, bai mu dan tends to have a plasticky taste to me. Or I’ve often had low-quality versions. You should love Butiki’s teas!

OMGsrsly

I’m so excited I’m going to hit that $75 shipping minimum in about 5 minutes!

Kittenna

Ahahaha. It’s not difficult! I think my first Butiki order (BEFORE a free shipping threshold), cost about that much… plus shipping. Yum.

This tea is a little fruity, a little spicy, and a little something else. That something else might be the juniper, or lady’s mantel, or silver weed, or st. john’s wort.

Even though the first ingredient is cinnamon, the flavour is not overwhelming. There’s a little warmth from the ginger, but mostly I taste “spice” and raspberry leaves with a background of apple.

I do like this as a nice alternative to the desserty teas I’ve been drinking in the evenings, but it is rather herbal medicine tasting. I used to drink a lot of tisanes for their health benefits, and I don’t want to diss this one, but I think that sort of flavour takes a bit of getting used to.

I added about 1/4 tsp honey to a 1 cup mug, but I don’t think it needed it.

Oh, and the ingredients etc are exactly the same as http://steepster.com/teas/banff-tea-co-dot-the/31192-ayurvedic-keep-well-women-uma

drank Milk Oolong | Jin Xuan by Tealux
2291 tasting notes

Finally, Canada Post delivered my order!

This tea is really neat. The other oolong I have smells like seaweed, but this one smells like sweetened condensed milk. I did a 10 second rinse, and a 1 minute steep, and lost about 1/4 of my mug of water to the leaves! Steeped, it smells a little green and grassy, and strongly of sweetened condensed milk. The taste is a little astringent, and a little bitter (perhaps 1 minute was too long) (EDIT: Neither astringent nor bitter, once it’s cooled to a better temperature. It’s amazingly smooth.), but does NOT taste strongly of seaweed like that other oolong does. There is a sweet milky caramel-y flavour (or more dulce de leche?) that is really lovely.

So far, so good. Hopefully this one doesn’t upset my stomach like the other, because I’m really enjoying sipping this!

Oh man. I’m so excited to try all these new teas. I kind of want to stay home and drink cup after cup, but I do need to go to work once I’ve finished lunch.

OMG. Cup two is even better. More milkiness, with none of that mouth coating that actual milk gives. OM NOM NOM. Ok. Now I’m going to head to work!

I’m seriously surprised! I actually like this tea!

My phone died, so I took it into the phone store… which happens to be directly beside a DavidsTea. I went in and impulse-purchased a dessert-y tea, and this one is pretty much what I was looking for! It’s incredibly sweet because it does have the sprinkles, but it tastes of vanilla and frosting, with a little depth of flavour from the rooibos. I don’t know that I’d stock this one regularly, but it’s a good option for me when I want dessert but there’s nothing in the house…

drank Nepal Black (Organic) by DAVIDsTEA

Oh, this is a good tea in the morning. The flavour is nice and strong and it’s holding up well in my travel mug. A little astringent, holds soy creamer and honey well, and doesn’t require much thought from my sleep deprived brain. Hopefully it provides enough of a jump start for me to make it through calculus this morning.

These Jasmine pearls are HUGE. I’m used to the tiny little green tea pearls, so this was a bit of a shocker.

Steeped per the package (3 balls in 1 cup water), the first go was very floral, with that bit of astringency I expect from most black teas. It was fun sitting there watching the balls unfurl! This tea doesn’t need sweetener or milky stuff as it didn’t become bitter, but I greatly prefer black teas with something in them. The second steep I’ve added a bit of honey, and I like it a bit better. For some reason, adding milk to a jasmine tea just doesn’t work in my head. I might try it though, because this has the potential to make an excellent tea latte.

These aren’t bad by any means, just not completely to my taste. If you love your black teas without milk and/or sugar, then this would probably be a good tea for you. I think I like Jasmine green tea pearls better, so upon considering the cost I don’t think I’m going to buy more of this one. (Though if someone gave me some as a gift I certainly wouldn’t say no!)

(Edit: 1 month later, I gave what I had left to a friend who loves jasmine tea. If I want some I can just go to her house and have a cup!)

I love this tea. So much so, that when my honey fell out of my cupboard and knocked my mug to the floor (breaking it and spilling tea everywhere) I wasn’t really upset as now my apartment smells delicious. Also, the falling was probably my fault as I can be a tremendous klutz in the mornings.

This is what I need from a strawberry tea. It tastes lovely up to 5 minutes of steeping (my max, really), is good with and without milky stuff and honey, and reminds me of summer. Just perfect.

I made myself a fresh cup after wiping up the floor, and noticed that I’m already starting to run low. Maybe I should get 100g this time!

I had my last bit of this tea in my mug this morning, on the first day of school for the semester. I really like it, but I think that when I’m not awake I need either something with a LOT of flavour, or something that’s just really strong. It’s definitely on my repurchase list, if I get to Victoria again this summer, along with their Royal Abkhazi and Golden Phoenix.

Wednesday morning I think I’ll have Steam Tea House’s Ginger Peach. Or maybe I’ll go buy something else tomorrow, because my order from Tealux still hasn’t made it to my house…
