2291 Tasting Notes
This smells really good, but something about the flavouring is coating my tongue and making me not want to finish the glass.
I prepared as an iced tea, making 500ml extra-strong and pouring over ice. I didn’t add any sweetener, but I think it might need it to bring the lime flavour forward. The base is quite strong, and the coconut lends a creamy texture.
Not bad, but not super great. I’d consider getting more because of the uniqueness of the flavour, if only HI had better customer response. (Maybe responding to customer emails, and also sending out a shipping notification…)
Flavors: Bitter, Cream, Lime
Preparation
This would be better with some Cavalla added for REAL chocolate flavour!
Otherwise, this is a decent chocolatey coconutty tea, better with milk than without.
I’m probably going to keep a tbsp or so and send the rest in the box. I think it’s worth trying, although it’s not a favourite.

Uhh, this tea smells kinda ammonia-like. You know. Cat pee and warm hay.
I don’t know if I can do this, tea friends.
…
…
Ok, I sipped. It tastes of warm hay and still smells like cat pee. Umm. I’m dumping this. Sorry the tea-appreciating part of me seems to be broken. :(
I spent $3.50 for 8oz of some random Yunnan tea from some random cafe this afternoon because I really wanted more tea.
That was dumb. I asked for black tea, and the guy said they had a Yunnan, which “was similar to an Assam”. Uhh, no. No no no nononononono. I said that I didn’t find that at all, especially since the Yunnan should be from China while the Assam was from India. He insisted. Maybe I should have had the Earl Grey?
Anyways, the tea was thick and dark and tasted like buckwheat honey with a little smoke. Not the sweet bright thick honey I associate with Yunnan teas. It was OK, and a nice change from the standard bagged black teas, but IMO not worth the $3.50. Especially when I had lots of little pieces of tea leaves in the bottom of my mug. They strained it with a fine strainer, too, so it really made me wonder how broken up the tea leaves were.
So sorry that you had such a disappointing experience. What is worse is if someone who isn’t familiar with Yunnan teas picks that tea and is turned off from Yunnan teas because of it. I love Yunnan teas, and there are so many good ones to be had for reasonable prices (Yunnan Sourcing has an excellent selection).
It wasn’t a terrible tea, but it wasn’t like an Assam (ha!) and also wasn’t as bright and fresh as I expect a Yunnan to be. (Granted, I haven’t had a huge amount of them, but I’ve had a few..) Definitely better than the Tazo ‘Awake’ I had. :) Just really pricey for what it was.
My refrain for the day was pretty much, ‘Should have had the earl grey.’ :D
Actually I would have had coffee but it was one of those super pretentious places where you have to choose one of however many coffees and then choose how they make it for you. Which just. I can’t do that. I dn’ot really get the subtleties of coffee, just give me my caffeine please. :)
My BFF came by to pick me up for a day of shopping, and so I made us this tea.
It’s really mild. I mean, I know I only did a 2 minute steep, but wow that was not the kind of morning tea I was expecting! Still, I did enjoy it. Sweet, thick, a hint of spice as it cooled.
And then I was out, needing more tea, so I followed it with Awake at Sbux. That… was not good.

Preparation
It was good, but I wanted more. If that makes sense. It was so mild I didn’t get any flavour until it cooled a lot.
A, umm, close to 30 minute second steep has brought me closer, although now it’s getting a little astringent.
Cold brew! Delicious. I don’t have much left, which makes me sad. I’ll have to restock at some point!
(HI TEA FRIENDS! I am busy. Bought the CUTEST CAT FABRIC for a dress. Also fabric for hiking pants. WHEE.
http://lizzyhouse.squarespace.com/sustainablyhappyblog/2014/1/24/catnap-dress-contest It looks like everyone who’s made a dress of this has done it in the green colourway, but I’m much more a purple-and-orange person. :D )
Preparation
Umm, ok. So there’s no notes for this tea? That’s weird, since I’m almost done my 100g of it (thanks mom… ;) )
Unfortunately, this tea is nothing to write home about. It’s an Assam blend, that seems to pull those cardboardy flavours instead of delicious malty and fruity and somewhat astringent flavours. I think I prefer Grandpa’s Anytime Blend, or their Rungagora for an early morning kick in the pants. They are both CTC, but somehow the maltiness overpowers any cardboard.
I know. Talking about a tea tasting like cardboard. At least it’s not chicken soup?

Still not feeling so great, and while I had a ginger tea at work, I wanted something less sweet at home. Enter this.
I steeped somewhere around 5 minutes, as I was baking toast and didn’t feel like setting the timer twice. It’s really nice! Earthy mineral puerh, lots of ginger. I added 1/2 tsp honey just to punch it up a little, but although it tastes good like this, I’m not sure it really needs it.
Definitely a decent tea. Not something I need to stock, but I’m glad I had it around this evening.
Flavors: Earth, Ginger, Mineral
Preparation
There is a backhoe outside my living room window. The next two weeks will be trying, I think.
Made this to share with my BFF. We both really like it. I even did two steeps, and am sipping on the second now. So appley, with a nice spice background. I don’t really get champagne, but that doesn’t worry me. I’ve only had this hot so far, I think. I feel a need to try it iced, but I’m not sure if I’ll remember before I finish the tea.
Flavors: Apple, Cinnamon
poop on HI
I just continue to be astounded at their customer service.
POOP!
Seriously. I sent 3 emails asking about status, and then a refund and recieved NOTHING. So, forget that.
I have some teas left I haven’t tried yet, so I’ll post about those… :)
