Thanks to skysamurai for visiting the Farihope plantation and sending the tea along. This one does need a long steep time, and its not a bold tea, but there is something comforting in the piney undertones and lack of bitterness. For an American grown tea I had low expectations and this earthy, mossy tea exceeded them. I would stop for a tour and I would get some of this tea if I were passing by.

Part of the huge puerh gift box from Rich, thanks!
Earthy and creamy and smooth. Maybe not the most complex, but certainly drinkable and not harsh. Not fishy or dirt tasting, just a standard ripe puerh, you won’t be disappointed if you don’t expect too much. A good candidate for mixing with peppermint.

Oh, peppermint… now there’s an idea.

A Sipdown of this bag of chai with a bit more ginger in the last cup. This might cause me to place a Maya order .

I seem to have drunk a pouch of this tea without writing a note. I brewed this one heathen style in a whole pot. I had help in drinking this down, this is one that is smooth enough my dad likes. It also steeps three times and has complex flavors, I’m thinking I might need more of this in my cupboard. It’s yeasty, malty, dark chocolate with just enough astringency to be interesting. Add in a bit of nuttiness and tobacco and you have a fun tea for special occasions, or maybe just when it’s rainy and your regular teas look ho-hum.

Flavors: Dark Chocolate, Malty, Nutty, Tobacco, Yeasty

The only thing I have to add to my previous note is that this is not a delicate tea, it is in your face copper and bite. If you like an amber ipa beer you will like this tea. I’ll certainly enjoy this change of pace from the smooth Yunnans I normally drink.

This was from a swap with gmathis, thanks! I did enjoy this frosting with orange and cinnamon flavors from Savoy, but I think they do a caramel flavoring much better than this one. I do think I need to place and order from Savoy as my caramel flavored teas have been sipped down, and I think this needs to be in the order. More is more with this one, its a subtle flavor and could do with more leaf to less water to get the best cup. Sigh, more tea to buy when my cupboard is already overflowing!

Flavors: Cinnamon, Frosting, Orange

I really like their Squash Buckling Chai! Need to try some of their other teas…

This is a great one in lieu of dessert. Like I’d skip dessert.

We have a pie shop nearby that carries several Savoy varieties, but it’s always potluck … I haven’t seen the Squash Buckling there, but I’ll be on the lookout next trip to the real storefront.

I figured I better drink this tea as it has a best by date of 2021. This is an almost sipdown, I have a few cups left. I do still like the chocolatey taste, and it is quite smooth. I might add it to a cart, but there are so many other teas to try so I might just sip this one down and enjoy.

Flavors: Chocolate, Malt, Nutty, Smooth

drank Minty Comfort by Adagio Teas

This is underwhelming mint and mildly savory/herbacious. If I squint really hard I can find the lemongrass note. I think shou and peppermint would seem more comforting to me. Nice to try, but don’t need this in my cupboard.

This was a swap from Gmathis, thanks! A sad sipdown, I might need more of this in my cupboard soon. Savoy has done a good job with the caramel flavoring with a hint of a peanutbutter cup in the background. This is sweet without being overly sweet; creamy caramel with another interesting nutty note underneath. What a nice cup!

Flavors: Caramel

gmathis

OK, now I need to make a cup this weekend specifically to hunt for the peanut butter!

Ahh, my cupboard staple Yunnan at builders strength. If that won’t get me going today, I don’t know what will :)

Flavors: Astringent, Dark Chocolate, Nutty

I really need to explore this tea more, I always lean to Taiwanese blacks instead!

Michelle

I can send you some, I buy it by the pound :)

gmathis

Sounds like a great jumpstarter!

I started drinking more tea about 10 years ago when I found that even my half -caf coffee was making me jittery and then sleepy after the caffeine wore off. While I started out with mostly Teavana, but soon expanded my tea cupboard to include lapsang souchon, pu-erh, Assam, and other strong black teas. I do enjoy oolongs, green, and other teas, as well as a nice tisane for an evening cuppa.
I’m not fond of jasmine or bergamont teas, though I’ll try anything once.
I am an avid traveler, hiker, soccer player/watcher.
I love trying new tea in new places, if you see something in my cupboard you want to try, hit me up for a swap!
