drank Mint Cacao Tea by Herbal Infusions
1501 tasting notes

Note: I really wish tea companies, especially those with unusual offerings such as this one, provided some form of steeping suggestions. I’m sending a note to Dan now to ask him if they can both put some on the website, and offer me some as well to post here. I have the same complaint with 52 Teas, BTW.. and the only complaints I have.

Onto the tea! I was surprised at just how much cacao there is in here. Amazing, beautiful and delicious (yes, I tasted some). It smells like rich chocolate (as it should, it is!) and steeps up smelling similarly with a hint of mint.

Straight, I get mint first (very lightly) followed by cocoa. It’s dry like a dry red wine the cacao, and I really like it. I want more. I also want to sweeten it though, because that’s what everyone seems to say is how this should be enjoyed. And so, I do.

As I mix in the Truvia, the smell of cacao wafts up yet again. YUM. It smells like a very dark hot chocolate, and now tastes like it too. The mint has almost completely disappeared unfortunately, which is a shame – but I just add my own mint next time. I have a lovely Arabian Mint I’ve been waiting to use just for something like this.

I could easily drink this nightly. I’ll surely become an enabler of this tea now too. It would’ve gotten a higher rating if the mint stayed present in the cup (and was more present from the start), and if there were better steeping instructions. For future reference: overleaf and oversteep.

Yay!! Some of this is on its way to me as we speak. I am excited to try it out when it arrives and am definitely glad to see you enjoyed it :)

This is SOOO good. I had my reservations, even though so many folks have shared how much they love it. This (well, likely the plain Cacao) will be a staple in my cupboard. I hope it gets there soon! This order took over a month to find it’s way to me.

OMGsrsly

I’m so excited because I think I’m getting the strawberry. I know you can’t have it, but I LOVE strawberries.

MissB

Oh, I love strawberries. It’s a one-way love/hate relationship, unfortunately. I hope it’s amazing, I can see how it would taste like strawberry cocoa.

The strawberry cscao was my motivation for placing my black friday order!! I am excited to try all the cacao teas – I got samples of this and the vanilla and then I got 50 g of the plain because I assumed I would be a fan. Hopefully I am right. And I do hope my order arrives before Wednesday or I won’t get to try any of it until I return in the New Year.

OMGsrsly

Mine shipped (I got the notice today) and tracking says I’ll get it Wednesday. Since I’m on the other side of the country, you should get it sooner!

VariaTEA

haha mine is in transit in Mississauga. I assume it should be here soon enough. I am also waiting for my Della Terra order which shipped a while ago but still has not shown up :(

VariaTEA

I lied. I just checked shipping and it has been processed in Montreal. Hopefully that means I will have it Monday.

I can’t wait to try this.
I wonder though, what’s the difference between this tisane and hot chocolate? We are venturing out if tea territory…

I’m guess hot chocolate is kind of like matcha in that you drink the ground cocoa. Hot chocolate can be a wonderfully diverse thing.

My top hot chocolate experiences:
Chocolat a l’ancienne in Montpellier, France ( melted chocolate with cream on the side)
when my cousin’s boyfriend made Mexican hot chocolate with whipping cream by mistake ( it was more like a mousse)
Hot chocolate and chilli at the Chocolate festival in Bologna.

OMGsrsly

This is shells, Cavo. Hot chocolate is cocoa powder, which is defatted and processed beans. :D #geek

OMGsrsly

You’re making me crave hot chocolate, yyz. The good stuff made of melted chocolate and cream.

It was really a amazing.. So much so that it was on the must do list of my hostel room mate who had worked as an Au Pair there 5 years before.

A few years ago, the obsession with tea started. The cupboard got bigger and bigger, more swaps occurred, group buys, secret rendezvous with local teapassionistas… and that’s how you end up with 500+ different kinds of tea in your home. At one time.

Almost all of the tea was given away, sold, or otherwise shared. A few relics still remain. I now travel full time with only two carryon bags to my name. One quarter of those bags are tea.

It’s still a challenge to avoid the chipmunk-like hoarding of The Teas, yet, the lightness of being from having so little compels me more.

If I have enough, I’m happy to share. If I’m in your area, I’d love to swap, meet for tea, and explore together.

As for the day-to-day stuff, I’m focused almost entirely on Love, (yes, with a capital L), Spirit/Self, transformation, travel and my writing and speaking work.

What kinds of teas do I normally like?

YES: flavored teas, fruity, dessert, chai, and spicy (REALLY spicy).

A FONDNESS FOR: all white teas, malty black teas, any herbal or medicinal teas, strange/weird teas you can only get in one place.

ALLERGIC TO: strawberries, lavender

DISLIKES: any added sugars, grains, lapsang souchong, and overly floral teas – I might enjoy a Jasmine Green every once in a while, but unless it’s a creamy floral tea (think roses in a chai, or the smoothness of a floral note in a French tea), I’ll likely pass. Earl Greys are a hit or miss with me; heavy on the cream or fruit notes and I might like it, heavy on the blergamot and I definitely won’t.
