424 Tasting Notes
Another sample from Cameron! I have really wanted to try some teas from Dragon Tea House, so I was very happy to see this one.
I wish I had taken notes on the tea, I remember enjoying it but not a lot else about it. I think it might have even been awesome.
I am woefully behind on tea reviews. I got an amazing surprise tea sample from Cameron that had 31 samples in it, all hand picked to my tastes. She really got it right. So as I have been trying the samples, I have been putting the bags on my desk so I could remember to write reviews on them. I didn’t take notes (bad me) so I will do my best!
This was the first sample that attracted me. The name is just oh so yummy! The tea didn’t quite live up to the name. I liked it, but I was hoping for more of a flavor punch than I got. Still a nice cup of spiced caramel tea. Thanks Cam!
How do I love Teavivre? Let me count the ways!
Really, there is nothing bad about this company. The service is top notch, the packaging is better than anyone else’s, they have amazing teas.
This sample was provided for review by Angel at Teavivre. Thanks Angel! I am drinking this on a Friday afternoon. This week has felt like it was made of Mondays, and I feel the stress just melting off of me as I drink this.
Mostly, I drink Oriental Beauty oolong. This one is more roast and has a little bit of a woody or tobacco note. It’s really nice. It is definitely not floral at all, more fruity – with the fruit being on the raisin end of the spectrum.
By the third steep, it’s very sweet and tasting closer to the Oriental Beauty. Extremely yummy and I’m getting a nice qi from it. This is an extremely good oolong and I highly recommend it!
From TTTB:
There weren’t many black teas in the box so its stay with me will be brief. I pulled this one out and honestly didn’t expect much, since so many tea boxes get their flavors all in a wad due to bad packaging.
I was really surprised how strong the currant scent was when I opened the (double bagged) package. It was really inviting!
The first cup was really good. Nice black base, strong currant flavor – but not too strong. The second steep was really astringent though, and doesn’t taste much.
I had the best mail day today. Cameron mailed me a huge package of surprise tea! It made my day. I also got a TTB, so I have a lot of sipping to do.
This is my first Simpson and Vail tea, and I love it. It went straight on my wishlist. It’s gingerbread in a cup. Strong and full of yum.
I had a tea bag of this included in my recent order. I thought I should try it in case I wanted to order more before free shipping ended.
It was ok, reminded me a lot of the Verdant chocolate genmaicha tea, probably due to the similar cocoa taste. I didn’t hate it but I also didn’t reorder it.
Because I am a lemming and thought this would be awesome, I bought two boxes of this (Target isn’t super close to my house).
The dry bad smelled like a cookie with a little citrus rind on it, so far so good. It brewed up a sort of non color, maybe almost clear but with a hint of something. Pretty murky and not so appealing.
Hot, I smelled COCONUT Alarm bells! I went and double checked the ingredients. No coconut. Folks, I ate a mouthful of hidden coconut last weekend and thought my head was going to do the exorcist spin. YUCK. Anyway, I took the leap and drank some.
First sip I didn’t like it. What is that flavor…buttery, sort of vanilla, definitely sweet. Couldn’t place it.
Marshmallow? OK. Marshmallow and butter. Then I had it! You know when you make homemade krispy treats, and the first step is to melt the butter and add marshmallows? That’s exactly what this tastes like. It tastes much more like a krispy treat than the krispy treat tea I had once. I bet if you made this with some genmaicha it would be right there.
But anyway, while it wasn’t super bad, it wasn’t good either. I will probably try one more cup and use someone’s suggestion to leave the bag in there. But it definitely wasn’t a wow moment.
I think I have used 2 teabags for more flavor on this one. I’m surprised so many people think it’s good, lol
My nephew loves this one….but we discovered it needs milk and sugar to bring out the sugar cookie flavor.
I didn’t pick it out before, but now that you mention it I definitely see the marshmallow in there. Wonder if it’s similar to 52’s Marshmallow Genmaicha?
Could be sentimental for some. Constant Comment will always have a place in my heart as it was the first loose tea I ever drank.
I have (had) a 10g pouch of this. I sent part of it to Cheri and today decided to have a cup. One more and it will be a sip down.
This is a nice, flavorful medium-bodied black tea. It’s not a knock you off your horse tea, and it’s not a 99 lb weakling either. Just satisfying and delicious.
