I think this may actually be the perfect tea. It’s just… everything. Words fail. Honey, vanilla, mushroom, yes. The mushroom sugar and kind of a cashew taste keep recombining in each sip, always there in different measure. There is a touch of spice in the back, it is really nice, but I am not sure what it is, I really can’t sort it. Others call it cinnamon, so I guess we can go with that. I keep getting a smooth feeling, with a warm barn fragrance even beyond the fungus smell which I keep relating to lanolin, and it won’t go away or just be called silky, even though I probably only think that because the name ‘fleece’ suggested it.

Speaking of fleece, this is so incredibly soft and sexy and golden gorgeous I wish it were my fleece. I could wear a sweater made of this stuff all winter if I wouldn’t be worried about messing up the flavor of the precious. :-)

Seeing these kind of tasting notes makes me wish I liked black teas.

I-Z go get hypnosis!

Whispering Pines Tea Company

You don’t like black teas?! :O

Invader Zim

No, I don’t like black teas at all, the only exception being chai. I’ve tried blends and different varieties, but nothing I like. Hypnosis, if only I had the money! Although, I have enough variety in teas to keep me occupied.

Terri HarpLady

I love this tea, and I’m eagerly awaiting my Verdant order, because there will be some of this in it!

Ack!! I over tea’d this cup! The swiped tea mug had it’s cruel, cruel revenge!

FYI, the difference between the s.o.‘s David’sTea Perfect Mug and the FORLIFE mug that I usually drink from is about 3 ounces. A 12 ounce capacity is not like a 15 oz. Do not just double the measurement and call it ‘close enough’ to two 8 oz cups. :-/

Edit: try two: less tea and more good.

I am by no means an expert on green teas. My ability to describe them generally begins with ‘fishy’ or ‘grassy’ and doesn’t extend far past that. I think I need a flavor wheel-type device. Do they make those?

This one. Hmm. Now that I ‘learned the cup’ I can see myself drinking a lot of this tea, so I am glad I have a good stockpile. I’ve had one failed and two successful 12 oz cups tonight. I like it. It is a tiny bit astringent, but not bothersomely so, a little grassy and a little sweet and floral smelling with just a hint of seaweed. Actually very well rounded.

This was FAR too easy to drink. Someone drank my tea again. :) It is 8 pm and I have downed far too much green tea, and now I have nothing left to review. Will try again soon.

Edited, the rematch! Round three: FIGHT!
Wow. A Mortal Kombat moment. I think sipping green tea and watching Mortal Kombat fatalities collected onto YouTube is pretty much never what a tea company has in mind for their product. Still fun, though, in an odd kinda way. Anyway, on to the tea. This is really demmed good! The dry leaf is a beautiful deep green and the broth seems hearty to me, a rich full mouthfeel with barely any astringency. I blame my mis-steep the other night or making it seem astringent then. I like that this is one of the first deep greens that I have tried that doesn’t make me think of the fish-based plant fertilizer I use for my orchids.

HUGO TEA COMPANY

We’re quite glad you enjoyed it.

It’s unfortunate to hear that you over-brewed it. This is certainly easier to do with Pan-Fired Greens.

Thanks for the honest assessment. Now we only wish we would have shipped you a friendly sample of our Steamed Cloud to compare the differences.

Thanks!

ashmanra

@Hugo Tea: I have BOTH on the way. BWAHAHAHAHAHA! I can hardly wait. I will compare them until my caffeine buzz has me on the ceiling! Although, they are supposed to be my Christmas present. O.O I don’t know if I can wait that long!

Londo Mollari

The Steamed Cloud is definitely on the list. I will have to get it next. I think I can handle a tin of it once the check clears! I am looking forward to further exploring this one as well though, it’s great.

Londo Mollari

Ahh, I love getting a present I know I will like, but I hate having to wait to receive them! I am afraid that if I don’t keep on top of the mail the boyfriend will ‘redirect’ my gifts to wherever he stashes things pre-holiday and I won’t get to try them for a whole month!

HUGO TEA COMPANY

@ashmanra, that is a lot of pressure—but we’re up to it. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

@londo, there were universal tears when we saw your 71 rating…then we saw that you’re a tough grader and we celebrated by drinking some tea.

Londo Mollari

Gimmie a day or so, my opinions tend to wiggle as I get familiar with a tea, and I have to wrestle with the demmed rating slide-y ruler (which is applephobic and hates the ipad). Though I am still a tough grader the tea deserves better than that!

ashmanra

Londo: if you want to raise the rating you can click edit and then, after having a calming sip of tea, tap tap tap until you get the slider more where you want. Sometimes I have to tap it WAY down and then move it back up to keep it from just returning to the same spot over and over. It is usually easier to just edit on the desktop, though.

Londo Mollari

Thanks, I finally managed to force it into submission today. The calming sip of tea point really helped, I sometimes fume at this poor toy for not being a desktop, but then I try to remember the last time I actually used my home computer and try to relax a little. :)

Ah lub ewe nottea. Ah lub ewe sew mush.

Seriously though – Sometimes it’s 10 pm and I know I really really shouldn’t drink any more tea, and I DEFINITELY shouldn’t kill that pint of Ben and Jerry’s HalfBaked in the freezer, but I just might chew through a limb if I don’t have something awesome and snack-like to put in my face-hole pretty much immediately. Usually it is at these moments that my boyfriend hides under the covers with an ipad and Netflix. This is fair, as usually the first limb I decide to chew through is not attached to me. However, when I am reminded in a timely manner of the existence of honey, cream, and this tea, his appendages are saved for another day. Remember kiddies, zombievirus may not start at home, but it can end there.

(FYI: The plague will actually kick off someday in a major metropolitan area, on public transport. I know, I have ridden the DC metro.)

Is it weird that I plugged my nose and read the first line? :P Feel better soon!

Can’t type, sniffing.
Can’t type, sipping.
Can’t type, sniffing again.

Edit: I just realized that SOMEONE filled my kettle today with bleachy-tasting tap water. Wow. I am gonna LOVE this tea once I get that cleaned better.

RE-edit: Yup. This was awesome. Drank it like a week ago though. Everything I had hoped and a little more. I really should have taken notes.

Hope you feel better soon.

It is no fault of this tea that I really don’t like anise, but I don’t. I really don’t. I somehow glossed over that key word ‘aniseed’ in the description and ordered it anyway. Eww. I messed this one up though, it is no fault of the blend.
My friend used to make his own absinthe, high test stuff made with everclear. We all hated it, it tasted like poison, wormwood and anise. Which meant we would only drink it when we were out of options and too drunk to go somewhere to get anything better to drink. I never want to wake up sweating insecticide and twizzlers ever again.

That said, if you don’t have an absurdly strong aversion to any hint of licorice I am pretty sure this would be good.

This was included with a swap from Jes. Yay! Erm, but is it ok if I don’t like it? :)

This tea and I don’t get along very well. It smells kinda like warm pink jello, playdough, or plastic and tastes… pink. Don’t really know how to describe it. I saw the bergamot, so I was not expecting to love the tea anyway, as I was prepping for something kinda like an Earl Grey. The smell is powerful, but once I got past the nose it was a much milder candy sweetness, like a pink starburst, and it tasted far less fake and plastic-y than it smelled. Tried adding a tiny bit of sugar about halfway through the cup. Ooops. I liked it less then. Glad I got a chance to try this, and equally glad it was a sample and I didn’t buy a whole tin! (Which I might’ve if I’d seen it first because they are beautiful!)

Was it Paris Hilton inspired tea maybe rather than Paris the city? Ewww Paris Hilton in a cup… yep, that’s exactly what it sounds like you described.

THIS. This definitely goes on the short list of teas I want to curl up with for the winter. I actually requested a swap of this from Jes thinking it would be for the bf. He loves mango lassi. Now we both adore this ‘evening snack’ tea. I am keeping it. In fact, even though there are several more cups in my cupboard I’ve already ordered more. Will add details tonight.

Went to Spaworld today for the first time. If you have a Korean spa anywhere near you you should go. I have decided that this is where I live now when the world gets me down. The routine goes something like this; give someone $35 then put your shoes, clothes and cell phone away for the next (up to) 24 hours. Get naked in your gender-specific locker room and go take a shower. Hit the shower/pool/sauna/hot tub/cold tub/infrared rest area of you choice, or all of them. Put on a comfy cotton orange prison jumper and go to the co-ed areas. Get yourself a bubble tea. Scope everything out and relax. Go to the hot rooms made of crystals, salt, ice, charcoal and pine, clay, or the omgomgomg red clay ball pit. Hit all of them. Seriously. Really wish you had thought to bring some iced green tea. Get a massage, salt rub, waxing, spicy tofu soup or dumpling depending on budgetary restrictions. Go lie under two inches of hot red clay balls again until you are putty. Shower again then go lie down someplace comfy for an hour or so. Nap. Repeat until you absolutely positively must be jacked back in to teh worlds again. Best $35 EVER.

In other news, I tried this sample right before I went out today. This is really great and if my third steep had gone with me instead of sitting neglected on the dining room table it would have made everything better. I think ashmanra and scharp covered the description well, and I am a bit too blissed at the moment to try to add to their insights. This makes two of three samples I have tried from Nuvola that I must have more of. Pretty impressive considering I haven’t tried the third yet and already ordered more of the first.

Bonnie

Wow you must have walked away in slow motion!

Londo Mollari

It is a pretty incredible experience. I was jellified.

Apparently some clever Asian businessmen when they are flying in to the area just stay here instead of getting a hotel. It is a lot cheaper, more relaxing and the services are great. I know I couldn’t do it. I place a very elevated, western value on privacy.

Hello, as you may have guessed, I am not really Londo Mollari. Apologies for the deception. I am Melissa.

In addition to my teas, I am a bit of a foodie, have an undying love for red wine and am lucky enough to have all the restaurants of DC and several VA wineries within a lazy reach of home. I have an ever-expanding orchid obsession and I have been known to talk to them. It helps.

To be honest, Tea went from being an interest to a bit of an obsession fairly recently for me – since I quit smoking. Tasting things is amazing, who knew?! Though a nice cuppa now replaces a much worse addiction, I spend FAR more money on this than I ever did on cigarettes.

I have loved tea ever since I was small, probably too small, visiting on the farm in Nebraska and drinking all my grandmother’s sun tea. I still prefer now what I liked then, watching tea slowly stain eddies of water, tasting nature.
