So my della terra Black Friday order is finally here. Yay. Now, like a starved person in front of an all you can eat buffet, I am staring at all these choices. I don’t want to open all the packages and sniff to decide — well, I do, but it’s crazy talk — so I opened this one because I remember reading reviews and they were positive. I also didn’t feel like “eight candles” today despite the fact I’ve been anticipating that tea for days.

As soon as I opened the foil pack and smelled the intoxicatingly sweet fragrance I knew I made the right choice. It does smell exactly like Red Velvet Cake from DAVIDs Tea and the taste is pretty similar. No filmy, oily stuff in this tea though, unlike DAVIDs. I don’t have them some by side but I have had red velvet cake quite a bit so me thinks I’m kinda right. That and the fact that tasting notes show others feel the same.

2 tsp for approx 14 oz of boiling water for 3 minutes gives a fairly light brown brew, I expected darker. And as a side note, what’s with the yellow flower petals? It made me think instantly of 52teas. There’s an entire flower in here, except for the stem. I also have to echo other steepster people when they say they get no pineapple. I don’t taste pineapple either, although I can see tiny dried pineapple bits in the dry leaf. I think it’s just so much caramel in here that it’s hard to pick up on anything else.

Curiosity satisfied, thank you :) it will not be a chore drinking this!

So glad your haul finally arrived! we should try and meet up or something once you’re back from your trip! (I need more tea friends in real life). I, too, am resisting the urge to tear open all my dt teas so I can sniff them, because I need to keep something sealed, for heaven’s sake! LOL

Sil

AHEM! me toooooo! i like tea friends!

I started drinking loose leaf tea in the spring of 2013 (why do we feel compelled to mark the date of tea drinking somewhat like addicts counting their sobriety days?)

Never been much into tea before. Growing up in Romania, tea was something mom made for you when you were sick. As an adult, my hot beverage of choice has been coffee, both flavoured and regular. I’ve recently stumbled upon Teavana and DAVIDs TEA and quickly got addicted to the latter. Then came steepster and all else followed.

Formerly a mathematician and insurance adjuster, I gave up the corporate world and am now a professional chef. I drink wine and sometimes cheat on it with tea.

I lean heavily towards flavoured black teas. I’ve started to crave the occasional straight oolong and green but so far unflavoured black teas leave me unimpressed.

I’m learning so I drink them all. Am even introducing myself to pu’erh. So far I can do fine with the sheng cause frankly, they don’t taste like pu’erh to me. The shou is another story.

Note*: The virtual cupboard does NOT contain any of the samples I hold since most of them are one-cup quantity.

Note**: My partner, our home improvements, gadgets, mortgage, travel, wine and food have budget priority over tea.
