96 Tasting Notes
I picked this up as one of my teas from DAVID’s buy 2 get 3 promotion. I’ve been looking for a caffeine-free alternative to The Skinny and I think I’ve found it. While the fennel is not the most pleasant of tastes, the tea finishes with a refreshing mint aftertaste. And I found that my stomach was definitely more settled afterwards.
Flavors: Fennel, Mint
We had a storm here and I couldn’t get to my local DAVID’s for the promotion :‘( Ah well, probably didn’t need another 300g of tea anyway.
Oh no! Are you on the East Coast?
I was planning on getting these teas anyway so it worked out nicely for me.
Today has been a rough day. I only got about 3 hours of sleep and then tried to make myself a latte only to find that my Tassimo was broken. Also a tree was being cut down on our property so it made trying to take a nap a bit hard.
I brewed this up as an iced tea. I was a bit hesitant because I’d seen reviews about the overpowering artificial cherry flavour but I didn’t experience that. It was very light and floral with delicate cherry notes. I think this tea would be lovely when the magnolia trees blossom in Spring. Of course, I’ll have to go find a magnolia tree to sit under, but I’m sure there’s a park that has them in the city.
I really enjoy this tea, but I find it a bit tart for an iced tea. I added a small amount of splenda and it has lessened the tartness without masking the flavour. I really need to pick up some liquid stevia drops for future iced tea sweetenings.
Flavors: Lemon, Tart
Preparation
I’m drinking the end of my batch of iced tea. I really want to brew up another pitcher but I don’t want to use it all up before it’s (fingers crossed) restocked next year. Although I think I might add a touch of splenda or stevia to counteract the tartness.
Yesterday, I binge-watched Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and loved the heck out of it. I highly recommend it. Today I have free tickets to the Toronto Roller Derby bout, but I’m feeling pretty crappy so I might stay home and read instead.
Flavors: Citrus, Citrus Fruits, Lemon, Orange, Sweet, Tart
Preparation
Sadlt Davids seems to rarely restock limited edition teas. I’ve been pining for one of my discontinued favourites to come back for a a while now. But if you want to grab more while it’s available, they have their tins of it 40% off right now http://www.davidstea.com/sunny-citrus-skinny-tin?&TF=27F5948F6518&DEID=
Hopefully they’ll roll out bigger discounted batches on their web specials page soon too? It’s always worth keeping an eye on that.
The past two days have been a bit rough, so I went out last night and picked up some of the Spring collection from DAVIDsTEA. I ineptly brewed a cup of Strawberry Fields this morning. I think I should stay away from black tea until I can brew it properly.
As my jaw and shoulders are very tight with tension, I made one of my favourites. This tea never fails to relax me. I want to pick up The Big Chill soon so I can have a bit of variety with my verbenas.
Flavors: Floral, Mint
I can barely taste the flavours in this but I have found a Variable Temperature Kettle that I like, so soon I shall have delicious teas.
Today, DAVIDsTEA released its spring collection and it looks so wonderful. I was going to stop by and pick up some Sunny Citrus and Pu’erh Ginger before they were gone but now I really want to snap up all these new teas! Except the melon one because it has kiwi in it. Decisions, decisions.
Flavors: Bitter, Chocolate, Orange
One of the first teas that I bought when I started to get into loose leaf!
I had another short sleep night last night (the ever-present joys of insomnia!), so after an hour I gave in and got out of bed. I started reading one of my ARCs (Advance Reader Copy) that I recently picked up. It’s a newer cozy mystery series revolving around a woman who makes and sells homemade pet treats. The book I’m reviewing is ‘The Icing on the Corpse’ by Liz Mugavero. I really like this series, but since I read so many cozies, I’m having a bit of trouble getting back into this world. Too many handsome men named Jake!
As I sip my cup, I once again feel despair over my inability to properly brew black tea. I have made myself another pot of fragrant hot water. I need to start saving up for that Breville Tea Maker!
Flavors: Candy, Chocolate, Peppermint
i went for a variable kettle instead of the tea maker, in part because i drink a lot of variety in the day and wasn’t convinced i’d want to clean the basket of the tea maker all the time.
+1 for a variable temp kettle. Bonus points for it being less than half the cost of the Breville. That, the timer on my phone, and a good measuring device (mostly a teaspoon, sometimes a scale for fluffy tea). I’m not sure how I ever made decent tea before.
+2 for the variable temp kettle. It’s funny, because I just reviewed mine last night, haha. I have a Cuisinart one and the initial reason why I purchased it (its $120 Canadian!) is because my old kettle broke and I had gift certificates from my wedding to use up so it only cost me $30 out of my own pocket. However, now that I have it, my tea is better than ever and I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to go back to cheap kettle!
I had this iced at an Aroma a few weeks ago. If you look at my profile, you’ll see that the perfect peach iced tea is something I’m still hunting down, so when I saw this on the menu, I thought I’d give it a try.
The first half of the tea was incredibly disappointing. There was barely a hint of a peach flavour. But it exploded deliciously out of the bottom of the cup. I’m not sure if this was a result of the brewing technique or the tea, but maybe next time I will try to shake or stir it up before drinking.
Even though this tea was a delicious classic peach tea, I won’t be buying it. I already have a classic black peach tea for iced tea and I really want to find a caffeine-free option for everyday drinking. That being said, I will most likely purchase this by the cup at my visits to Aroma.
ETA: Pluck Tea is also a local Toronto company which is also worth noting as they try to use local ingredients in their teas. They have a few blends available at Indigo but not the peach.
Flavors: Fruity, Peach
