4843 Tasting Notes

I polished off a half gallon of this tea yesterday. The mandarin orange is strong and tastes authentic. The black tea sits off in the background, maybe a little hidden because of the stronger mandarin orange flavor, but I still taste the black tea. The mandarin is definitely the star of this show though. Sweet, juicy, vibrant.

drank SBT: Lavender Chai by 52teas
4843 tasting notes

So, for the teas that I won’t have a chance to review on the SororiTea Sisters blog, I guess I’ll go over here and review them (I am still very very backlogged with the teas that I need to review that have already published on SororiTea Sisters, and maybe I’ll get around to that soon, but right now, I’m too busy with other things that I can’t worry too much about getting the teas posted in both places.)

OK, so when I first got this, I was a little worried because I thought that maybe the lavender might take over and it might taste perfume-y, but it doesn’t. The lavender is pleasant and subtle and melds really nicely with the spice notes. It’s not a particularly spicy chai, it’s got some gentle notes of ‘chai spice’ that tastes a little ginger-y and a little cinnamon-y with a hint of clove. The black tea is brisk and flavorful.

It’s a really enjoyable iced tea.

I am drinking this tea right now. And i’d like to start off by saying the reason I say More chocolate, more, more, more … is because more chocolate = better.

My first couple of sips were a little muddied because the tea was still a wee bit too hot. So I let it cool (it’s really difficult to be patient and wait for the tea to cool when it’s chocolate, you know?) After letting it cool to a drinkable temperature I started sipping again.

A really yummy, chocolate-y tea. I still think that cacao shells would make this better. I just really like the chocolate-y flavor that the cacao shells deliver.

This IS a really chocolate-y tea, though. The honeybush is tasted and adds a little bit of nutty flavor to the cup which is kind of nice for the brownie batter taste. I find that the chocolate-y flavors develop as I sip, now that I’m nearly toward the bottom of my cup I’m experiencing a lot more chocolate-y flavors than I did at the start.

Really yummy!

I received my lovely box from Wymm Tea the other day and of the four Pu-erh samples they sent me this is the first that I’ve tried. I loved this tea. It didn’t have a strong earthy presence, and the earthiness that I experienced was more like mushroom than the earthiness that I often experience with a pu-erh. Nothing offputting about this tea at all. It was lovely.

You can read about my adventures with this tea and its many infusions here: http://sororiteasisters.com/2015/03/10/menghai-shou-pu-erh-third-grade-2008-from-wymm-tea/

I’m attempting to drink this tea at the moment. I’m glad to see that this tea has already sold out, because unfortunately, I can’t offer a lot of words that I think would encourage someone to buy this one. I’m just not crazy about it. (Sorry Frank!)

I’m not tasting a lot of pear. I’m not tasting a lot of ginger. I’m tasting jasmine. And it isn’t jasmine notes derived from the presence of the jasmine blossoms in the blend. It’s jasmine essence from jasmine oil. I really think that the people who sell jasmine oil should print on the outside of the bottle “for external use only” because jasmine oil is just not good on tea and I can’t imagine another culinary use that it would be good for.

This blend would be so much better if the jasmine oil wasn’t used and the jasmine was from either the flowers in the blend or if a jasmine scented tea was sourced for this blend. As it is, this just isn’t working for me.

ETA: As it cools, I pick up on more pear and ginger notes. It’s a better tea cold than it is hot. I still taste too much jasmine oil though.

TeaNecromancer

blech, does not sound like my kind of jasmine tea

Sami Kelsh

Oh dear. I can’t really see all of these three working together anyway, but… bleh.

adagio breeze

See, I thought it sounded like it might be tasty, having liked Butiki’s Pear & Jasmine Candies. Sad to hear that it’s not.

LiberTEAS

I think it could have worked if it hadn’t been created using jasmine oil. If a jasmine scented tea had been used instead, this could have worked, I think. But jasmine oil just should not be used on tea. It rarely comes out good.

I concur.

I’m drinking this tea at the moment so that I can have a just for me moment. I’ve been very busy with: 1) Kickstarter stuff (seriously, unless you are exploding kittens, it’s hard work!); 2) blog stuff (getting all my reviews in place so that I can ‘retire’ and get our new sisters on board, plus getting the blog in order for them to get started); sampling/testing teas and flavorings.

Which is to say that I’ve not taken a lot of time to just sit back and enjoy a tea that is neither for a review or for me to test out for potential teas for the all-new 52Teas.

So, I decided to take a tea moment for me now and try this tea. It’s been beckoning me for a while.

And it’s good. I am not usually a big espresso fan. But it works with the melon. The espresso adds a roasty element to this, making it taste almost like roasted cantaloupe which I’ve never tried but based on my reaction to this blend, I’d say it’s probably quite delicious.

The black tea has a Oolong-like texture to it that I’m liking with the melon notes. It’s a very tasty … very unusual blend. I like.

Oh gosh, the Exploding Kittens…

I love the aroma of this tea. Sweet and chocolate-y! Completely enticing!

A tea of chocolate-y bliss. This is lovely. Sweet, malty, and I love how the malt notes add a hint of caramel-esque flavor to the cup … the chocolate plus caramel-like flavors are heaven. I also taste notes of sweet potato and a hint of cream (almost buttery), and a touch of vanilla.

As the tea cools, I notice some citrus notes toward the tail.

A wonderful tea! Here’s my full-length article: http://sororiteasisters.com/2015/01/15/yu-lu-yan-cha-black-tea-from-verdant-tea/

Did you mean to link to an article on your blog instead of the steepster page?

LOL – yep I did! Thanks!

drank Rougui Oolong by white2tea

As I mention in my full-length article of this tea: http://sororiteasisters.com/2015/01/15/rougui-oolong-tea-from-white-two-tea/ – I don’t have as much experience with Rougui Oolong as I do with some other Oolong teas, but that wasn’t about to keep me from enjoying it!

This tea is lovely!

Delightfully fragrant, notes of flower and fruit. Because this is a ‘darker’ Oolong, I note more fruit notes than floral. It’s sweet with hints of smoke in the distance. Subsequent infusions proved to be even more delightful with stronger flavors and a smoother delivery and sweeter taste.

A really pleasant cuppa! I highly recommend this.

I really liked this blend. The brewed tea smells delightful, in fact, I think I smelled more cookie than I tasted it and I did want a little more of the buttery, cake-y type flavors that teas like this from 52Teas are known for. This tasted a bit more like a mild chai to me than a cookie flavored tea.

But that was alright too, because I do love me some chai.

As the tea cools, the flavors develop a little and I get more of a baked goods type of flavor as the tea cools a little. (Not cold as in iced tea or even room temperature, but cooler than ‘hot.’) I still wanted a little more of the baked good flavor to come through or maybe something more ‘icing’ to bring it all together.

And I found it in the second steep! This tea you really NEED to resteep because the flavor is so much better in the second infusion. I happily tasted the cookie flavor I wanted in the first cup with the second infusion. Yum!

A really tasty blend.

And please – don’t forget that I’m trying to take over 52Teas! Please help me do that! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/497705217/the-great-52teas-take-over

drank Midday Flight by Tippy's Tea

Today, I’m spending the day testing some of the tea samples and tea flavorings that I’ve been sent by companies to start working with so I figured since I can’t write reviews right now that it’s a good time to start working on my backlogged reviews waiting to be written on Steepster.

This is a really pleasant blend of teas. I like that I can taste notes from each component: I tasted malt and richness from the Assam, a hint of smoke from the Keemun, the even character of the Ceylon and the crispness of the Darjeeling.

A very satisfying afternoon tea! I liked this one a lot. Here’s my full-length review: http://sororiteasisters.com/2015/01/14/midday-flight-black-tea-blend-from-tippys-tea/

I am obsessed with tea!

I am a co-founder of the SororiTEA Sisters:

I no longer write for the SororiTea Sisters but I am still the admin for the blog.

The reason I’m no longer writing for SororiTea Sisters is because I am now the Mad Tea Artist for 52Teas:

http://52teas.com

I’ll still be posting occasional reviews on teas here on Steepster, mostly backlogged reviews because I’m way behind on getting reviews posted. That’s why I’m keeping two accounts active at the current time – so that I can get those backlogged reviews posted.

My favorite teas are Yellow Teas with most Oolong teas at a close second. As far as “flavored” teas go, I love Earl Grey, Chocolate and Jasmine teas.

I also am intrigued by flavored teas with an unusual or unique flavor combination, which is why I was very excited to be the Mad Tea Artist of 52Teas!
