drank Mint Refresh by Pukka
1299 tasting notes

Preparation: I used boiling water and steeped the tea as recommended for 15 minutes.
Another tea from the Pukka sampler that I bought through Amazon last year.
This one might be my favorite from the sampler so far. I would definitely purchase it as a bedtime tea.
Flavor-wise: The peppermint, licorice root, fennel, and rose are combined perfectly. You can taste the peppermint it is subtle but the main flavor. The licorice root is not overpowering at all but brings some sweetness which pairs well with the other ingredients. I think the fennel may be contributing to the sweetness a tad bit as well. The rose doesn’t contribute any floral notes to the tea. It’s very soothing to drink and requires no additives. This tea is very sweet.

Flavors: Licorice, Peppermint, Sweet

Preparation
Boiling 8 min or more 8 OZ / 236 ML

This was a Christmas gift that came with 5 other teas from Trader Joe’s. So far I’ve found that each tin makes about 2-3 cups of tea.
I cannot stand the taste of lemongrass. It almost always seems to overpower herbal tea blends but tonight for some bizarre reason (probably a one in a million chance) I thought that I could drink it without having to dump the cup out.

This tea’s ingredients are almost identical to another tea that a family member gifted me several years ago that I still have from The Spice & Tea Exchange called Chamomile Twist which tasted predominately of lemongrass.
Tasting Notes:
I’m tasting the lemongrass and nothing else. Not a fan. Not much else to say.

This is one of my favorite teas that I could drink all day. It’s very soothing so it’s a great relaxation or bedtime tea. It’s known to help with joint pain and period cramps. Though in order for it to be effective in healing an ailment it’s recommended to drink 3+ cups a day which could get quite expensive if your buying tea bags. This is definitely something you could grow and make your own tea out of if you wanted to. I first tried this tea at my herbal instructors home, she recommended it for me to help with my iron levels and sent me home with a handout of all the uses.

Brewing: I always brew this tea the same, using boiling water and steeping for 10+ minutes.

Actual Tasting Notes:
Very Rich, sweet medicinal flavor. The base of the tea tastes of sweet hay, with notes of spinach, and minerals which just adds to the complex richness of this tea. To many those flavors might not sound appealing but this tea is definitely worth a try.
It pairs nicely with milk and requires no sweetening. I actually think sweetening this tea would ruin it and make it very cloying.
I think this tea especially appeals to those who really enjoy chamomile tea.

drank Eggnogg'n by Bigelow

Not a proper tasting note.
Had this at a friend’s house, I haven’t had this one in a few years. She has a lot of tea but only drinks boxed tea and I think this tea bag is pretty old.
This time around the flavor was quite different than I remember.
It wasn’t very eggnog-y to me but was definitely quite creamy and sweet with some soy milk. What was different this time was that I noticed an alcohol liquor type quality that wasn’t unpleasant but was strange. It reminded me of Bailey’s Irish cream or amaretto perhaps. I’d been wanting to try this one again and now I won’t have to buy a box. As I’ve decided it’s not something I need to have on hand, I have other favorite holiday teas.

So I ended making my only sample of this tea bag for someone else but tried it. I assumed I wouldn’t like it but ended quite liking it which was unfortunate since it still went to my friend. I got this tea bag from a family member who received it on a European cruise.

Dry bag: smells fruity like marionberries

taste: fruity with a hint of rose flavor, after all it does come from a rose. Slightly tart but easily fixed with some honey.
The color brews up this beautiful color that reminds me of hibiscus or beets. Would make a lovely lip stain!

Flavors: Berries, Fruity, Rosehips

Boiling 8 min or more 8 OZ / 236 ML

drank Peach DeTox by Yogi Tea

Not much to say about this tea….
Dry Leaf: Smells very strong like Cinnamon oil.

Brewed: No peach flavor to be found, mellow cinnamon flavor, and a hint of licorice root. I also taste some ginger, the predominant flavor is ginger with some light cinnamon notes. I like the taste of medicinal teas a lot but this one hardly has any taste at all and was extremely disappointing. Would not recommend or repurchase.

Flavors: Cinnamon, Ginger, Licorice, Pepper

Boiling 8 min or more 8 OZ / 236 ML

drank Night Time by Pukka

This came in my Pukka sampler
I didn’t add anything to this cup of tea. I actually think any additives would overpower the flavor. Flavor wise I can taste the Licorice root but it’s very light, but I can also taste the Chamomile which is surprising since licorice root is usually always overpowering. I think I’m also tasting the oat straw quite a bit. The valerian root is there but very subtle. The only ingredient I can’t seem to taste is the lavender which is disappointing. It’s not a bad tea but I definitely prefer CS Sleepytime or Chamomile flavorwise over this tea. This tea is also about six dollars more than the CS teas because it’s organic.

Flavors: Cardboard, Herbs, Licorice, Oats, Tulsi

Preparation
Boiling 8 min or more 0 OZ / 0 ML

This is my third attempt at trying to bring out the chocolate flavor in this tea. I was so desperate that I actually added regular milk to it and regular sugar! If I add something to tea it’s always soy milk, Stevia, honey, or half and half. So hopefully that shows you how much I wanted this tea to live up to it’s name. I’ve never been a big fan of chocolate or chocolate teas but lately have been getting more into it.

Dry leaf: The smell is so rich and luscious reminding me of a chocolate truffle. This is what made me buy this tea to begin with.

Brewed: There is no chocolate to be found. This tastes like a decent black tea with milk and sugar but is far from special. I would not buy it again. Not much else to say about this tea. It is definitely a nice tea but doesn’t have that oomph of chocolate to call it a flavored tea.

I’m starting to think that this tea would work better as chocolate potpourri than chocolate tea. I have about enough tea left for one more cup.

Flavors: Malt, Smooth

Preparation
Boiling 5 min, 0 sec 8 OZ / 236 ML

I’ve never had this specific tea, but I often find that chocolate notes come out more if you lower the water temp. If I’m trying to bring out more chocolate, caramel, or nutty notes in a flavored black tea I quite often steep them at 90-95C. Since this is a Keemun I wouldn’t go much longer than 5 minutes, but I would try lower temp and maybe a slightly longer steep. Not sure that will help you but it works for me sometimes. :)

Interesting I don’t have a thermometer unfortunately but will definitely try playing around with it at a lower temp. I have about two more cups worth.

I drink tea for many reasons: For pleasure, health benefits, mindfulness, to help with anxiety, hydration because I have always struggled with drinking plain water.
My rating system is kind of a mess and I keep telling myself I’ll fix it sometime.
