1299 Tasting Notes

Made this for a family member since I had an sample packet leftover from an old order. I remembered that they liked this one when they tried a sample of it iced in stores. I didn’t care for it at the time. This time I made it hot and there were no additives in it.
I tried a few sips because I’ve been craving fruity teas lately and Lemon even though I used to be pretty picky I’m getting less and less regarding fruity teas. It seems that I really need to order some more since my cupboard doesn’t have much fruit flavored teas. I feel like I still have too many teas though to order yet even though a fair amount are samples.

This time trying it hot for the first time It really fits the name, The yogurt notes and rhubarb come through strong. This reminds me of the Rhubarb Cheesecake I made last year for my mother’s Birthday except less sweet of course. There are some soapy notes as well though which is unfortunate. Perhaps I steeped it a bit too long. I’m slightly wishing that this cup was mine to drink now but still ended up giving it to the family member. I remember the other sample packet I had of this ended up down the sink after a few sips. Now I have no more samples of this. It’s funny how your taste buds change and adapt/expand. I finally see why a lot of people like this one. This tea will sit at the current rating because I would have to try a few more cups of this to really get a good test of how much I like this tea. It came up from a 5 to a 54 though which is a lot.

I’ve noticed my palate change a lot just over the last year, too.

It’s the noble thing to do to give the tea to your guest, though!

drank Sakura Cherry by DAVIDsTEA

Sipdown!
So This tea is a bit of a sad sip down but shouldn’t be. The cherry comes across as cough syrup like in this blend and is very strong. I’ve been sipping on my bag of this so much that I’ve come to reach for it. That’s probably because green teas are my favorite and I haven’t had a good green tea in ages it seems like because I currently have tons of black teas. Since I wanted to branch out. The very slim to none green teas I have are unopened and so I’ve been saving them till my cupboard shrinks down a ton. I never did get to try this iced which was disappointing because I forgot to cold brew some. I definitely would like to try some more cherry blossom green teas in the future.
Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person on steepster who favors green teas more than any other variety.

I didn’t forget, I have just been waiting to finally have a business day off in my work schedule to get to go to the PO. I finally have one this coming Monday.

I know you’ve been busy with your presentations and stuff at the library. Thanks Again! Also I’m not too familiar mailing things myself but am close to Tea Chai Te and have never been. If it would be cheaper for me to pick you up some stuff and mail it.

My Tea Chai Te stash is pretty good at the moment thanks to a pretty generous gift card my Dad gave me for my b-day last month that I cashed in online with a pretty big order, but next time you are in Portland, I highly recommend giving them a visit! Portland has so much good tea between them, and Jasmine Pearl, and Steven Smith, and Strand… waaaa, if it didn’t rain all the time out there and barometric pressure changes trigger my migraines, I’d be tempted to move into that area for the tea alone! My friend and I took a trip to Portland for my birthday in 2017 and somehow ended up at Tea Chai Te every evening of that weekend because it was so good, and the baristas noticed and I think were a bit worried, hahaha.

Being only 15 minutes away I really have no excuse for not checking out the tea selections over there. That’s unfortunate that your migraines get worse. I get nosebleeds from climate changes very easily.

Re: green teas – I think you might be one of the few people who likes flavoured greens more! Straight greens are reasonably popular, but there’s definitely not a lot of love for flavoured ones around here – I feel like it’s because green tea is more apt to lose its good flavours quickly, and many blenders don’t seem to use high quality greens for flavouring. Exceptions are some of the smaller companies, like Butiki/52teas/A Quarter to Tea (and probably some others).

Also, I know I’m a year late to this, but I like reading old tasting notes when I review a tea!

Lexie Aleah

^^ I actually prefer straight green teas. I just thought this was interesting because of the Sakura aspect. :) Love reading old tea notes too!

Thanks for the pouch of this Tea-Sipper! Also This is a Sip down.
First tea I’ve ever had from Bluebird which was definitely exciting!

Prep: So I realized finally that the best way to get the right amount of leaf for this is to use a perfect spoon(I use the Teavana one) because it seems smaller than Davids Tea’s which I use for iced teas. I steeped it for about 4-5 minutes and used boiling water.

Taste wise this tea has a Very rich creaminess to it which dominates the entire cup. It reminds me a lot of homemade whipped cream. There are some subtle warm Christmas spices like clove and sweet cinnamon. The pine needles don’t come through flavor wise at all which was disappointing. This tea definitely nails the dessert aspect perfectly but doesn’t scream Christmas to me. When I think of Christmas teas I think of bold flavors and or spice. I think this tea would be more fitting for Christmas if it had some stronger notes of orange, candied ginger or even some amaretto perhaps. I still think this tea is amazing but wish it had more pops of flavor that come through. The re steeped cup has a strong sweet and spicy cinnamon flavor very similar to Trader Joe’s Winter Wake Up tea. I would happily invite it into my cupboard again.

drank Mango Ginger by Yogi
1299 tasting notes

Finally! A Yogi tea that lives up to it’s name for once. Often the tea doesn’t end up tasting like the name and or has some unusual ingredients and tastes strange.
This tea is my favorite Yogi tea that I’ve tried to date. It’s newer and the licorice root is undetectable and perfectly balanced. It gives a subtle sweetness to the heat from the ginger. Although not enough to recognize it as licorice root. I do wish this had more mango flavor but it can be still interpreted in this blend. Whereas the other Yogi teas I’ve tried for example the Peach one couldn’t be interpreted as peach or any sort of fruit. This takes sweetener well but doesn’t need it and also takes milk well. Though I would only add a tiny bit of milk(ex. 1 tablespoon max) as not to overpower this tea. That all depends on your personal preference though and how much of the ginger you want to taste. The ginger in this blend though is definitely a forefront flavor but not up in your face like in Chai teas often and other teas because of the sweetness. I would say that people who dislike licorice root would probably like this tea and not detect it. Although I am a fan of it myself.
